Indeed, it would be. But it's not quite right. I even thought at first that Phil is right when he says detractors steal his show so they basically outclass him, that he created a monster and now he can't control it. But none of that is really true, Youtube in itself is not a detractor. We can check if he is "shadowbanned" or how well detractors do in comparison, in the eyes of people who have no idea who this DSP-guy even is. Time for some science, which is no science:
As a creator you want to be listed/found
without including your name in the search. That's why good tags are important because they fill out this role. This is mostly the case but not all the time. If you fill a niche with a very rare problem and your solution is still shit, you will still be the #1 result. A videogame player fills no niche, at all. They are grains in a desert. So they will only be found if they're famous (= by definition the "best result") or if you search for their name.
For example, if we search for "DSP bloodborne" (deactivated "Restricted Mode") we will find Phil. But give attention to what we will also find: A ton of detractor videos related to Phil. And the reason is obvious. We searched for "DSP bloodborne". So we will get any title with bloodborne but also
DSP. This is why you write your name in the title!
Search processes don't only search the tags, they search for every information. Title, description and tags. That's also why it's forbidden to copy tags in the description so the system won't be abused (videos like that will be deleted).
But if we search with activated "Restricted Mode" we will still get Phil and a lot less detractors. The whole process of what is "inappropriate" is kinda vague but at least we can be sure that his whole channel isn't a victim of this machinery and it kinda seems to work. But nobody searches in activated mode, so fuck it.
But as stated before, being found with your own name is too easy. What you want is to be found by strangers who don't know you. Wurstbrot Tries It. I'm not logged in so the customized search results shouldn't affect me.
Let's just use "
bloodborne" (on Youtube) for today. It's quite a fair tag because Phil has an old playthrough and also started a new one, so he has an advantage. But I will also not ignore recommendated channels and playlists because they did something right to be listed there. So let us check out any DSP-related stuff until ... let us say rank 50.
