Sounds like Doug's just dodging the problem. Either he's trying to make himself look good, or he genuinely doesn't even know that a controversy is going on.

that salon article was terrible.
Would Malcolm being part of SAG be any indicator why they're treated better? I'm not 100% on how SAG works, but I'd assume being part of the guild "forces" CA to play nice to an extent
Link. Now.tfw a bunch of autists on a brazilian carpenting enthusists forum are better researchers than professional journalists
I was not aware of Malcolm and Tamara being SAG. Are you sure about this? Because if true that would change A LOT of things. If you are SAG then whatever you work on has to be SAG approved and that features all that good stuff like benefits, residuals, and being allowed to work x amount of hours.
I doubt Doug and Rob's little circus shitshow are SAG but it would be interesting if they are.
Edit: I read the article and saw that Malcolm is a SAG actor. I'm shocked.
Yeah I was surprised too when it was brought up in the article, that's why I was curious if it actually plays a part in his treatment
Probably not. I seem to recall that a SAG rules are or can be forgiving with regards to small local productions. So long as you are paying the actors at scale they won’t necessarily go all closed shop union rules on your production crew. Remember you need certain types of screen credits to even apply for SAG membership. NC films may have helped Malcom get that. Even unions need a farm team.
I doubt Malcolm got his SAG card through CA. He probably got it from his radio and commercial work. I remember in Bruce Campbell's book If Chins Could Kill that he mentioned that he finally got his SAG card when he did a Michigan used car commercial.
They could and probably are paying scale but being part of SAG still gives Malcolm the right to residuals and benefits. Which is something I wouldn't expect Doug and Co. to do but yet here we are.
I don’t mean he got it through CA. But to get a SAG card you need a certain amount of “professional” acting credits. Weirdly NC probably counts towards that.
Those "professional" acting credits have to be union-approved. Doing anything independent doesn't count towards getting a SAG card. If you do a SAG-approved production and fulfill the requirements (I.E. having a line, a background extra may not get it but it depends) then you get your SAG card.
Informative. But I still would not be surprised to find that at least the Walkers little NC studio might in some way be a SAG approved. Remember they threw insane amounts of money with the intent to seemingly make it a real studio.
The Walkers also thought their studio could compete with Hollywood.
I’m not saying they aren’t idiots. Just that given their ability to spend money stupidly I wouldn’t rule out giving some to the guilds.
How badly have the recent events affected the number of Nostalgia Critic views? Are they fucked now because their audience is leaving in disgust or are people sticking around because they don't know/care about what's been revealed?
don't think it had much of an effect. The latest NC vid is already half a mill in views...and viewing previous vids, they'e more or less on par with past vids views before the controversy
I still watch his videos (mostly to see if he will ever react or make a statement on this whole shit show) and I generally stop right when the credits hit because I have 0 interest in his charity shill "look i'm a good person!" segment. I think a lot of fans do the same thing. Cuts out a good 2-3 minutes every review, depending on the video.I'm pretty much convinced that the Walkers could release any Nostalgia Critic video and give it a clickbait title and it would get at least half a million views. The big sticking point is how long people actually watch the video. If people collectively watch less than 10 minutes I don't think they get as much ad revenue.
The Salon article is out, including quotes from Doug Walker and a number of the contributors in the Google Doc
https://www.salon.com/2018/04/22/the-triumph-and-tragedy-of-channel-awesome/
Here are Doug's quotes in the article:
Malcolm and Tamara were also quoted saying that their experience wasn't the one listed in the Google Doc - which is not surprising considering their working relationship with Channel Awesome and Doug is significantly different than that of the ex-contributors.
Also no explicit mention of Jew Wario
