TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

I'm having difficulty pulling up the Salon article right now, but it's either Pregler or Ellis who said that CA hired some pro-GG content makers. What producers are they talking about? Also, Ellis's quote about CA being complicit in GG is rich. Given that most of the output of CA is people shouting impotently over old media, Michaud and the Walkers didn't want to tear the community apart. If they wanted to do that, they'd just release some poorly redacted chat logs.

Guru Larry and Count Jackula are overtly in the pro-GG direction and quite a few people at CA aren't people who moan about it being the cause of all of societies problems so they're basically pro-GG as far as people like Ellis are concerned.

As happy as I am to watch the tire fire, let's not forget that Lupa didn't mastermind this doc because she gives a shit, she did it out of spite. This doc would never have been drafted if she were still employed. It's the same reason she torpedoed Spoony for the BDSM joke passed at JO on Twitter months after the fact. She is every bit as disingenuous as everyone else, and only on the right side of the fence for having been pushed over it.

Who are those people?

Aiyana Wade, Heather Ruese, and Walter Banasiac. Spelling is likely off on all their names. Near as I can guess, Walter either was friends with or got discovered by Doug and has done a few shows for Channel Awesome. Awesome comics, top 5, and the orbit report. Also Walter edits Tamaras never seen.

I still don't know what it was about. When I first heard about it, my thoughts were "a controversy with '-gate' added to the end of it, that's all I need to know" so I didn't give a shit about it, and when I finally tried to follow it to see what the fuss was about it had devolved to the point where people on both sides were hurling death threats at one another, after which I decided "yeah I'm staying out of this one".

5 years later, and the only thing I know about GamerGate is that spergs feel the need to bring it up and use it as a boogeyman instead of just letting it go.

The honest Tl;DR; of GG is 'People who didn't like games, gamer culture/nerd culture, (whats that? power fantasies, lot's of attractive women, stupid but harmless fun like that) yet were a part of the gaming culture as "journalists" or as participants who were very insecure in their taste, wanted to change games to be more "mature." Since these people are children in adult bodies, this meant that they absolutely needed to not only get different toys for themselves, but since they didn't like the old toys no one was allowed to like them anymore! Absolutely pointless vitriol to anyone who dared still like fictional tits and ass, or had the gall to not immediately agree with everything they, or their sacred cows (Anita, Quinn, etc.) said.

As others have pointed out, since these children have no idea to deal with a 'No, this isn't going to happen,' they had no choice but to double, triple, quadruple down again and again. It was never an option for them to say 'You know what, you are allowed to disagree! It is silly of me to try and impose my taste to everyone else!' Hence the absolute absurd hyperbole you might have heard. Went all the way to the UN, got some TV shows, MSM called GG terrorists, and I'm sure much more I can't be assed to remember. Basically GG people were megaHitler 3.0, according to the Anti side.

Eventually the GG 'side' moved on since nothing was really happening, games remained mostly the same, Anti side remained as insane as ever. So it just naturally died down. But since the Anti side didn't get their 100% capitulation, which was the only thing they ever wanted, ("Listen and Believe!" lol) they will never ever let it go.

And the reason it was damn hard to follow from the outside was that A) You weren't even allowed to ask the Anti side any questions, you damn GooberGater! B) Bunch of gamers being labeled megaHitler 3.0 with the hyperbole that entails didn't make a whole lot of sense. C) Media was on the Anti side, and its hard to recant insanity, so the narrative is hard to follow

Funny, I remember it starting because some non-programmer slept with a bunch of journos to get good reviews for her non-game and her maybe/maybe not ex-boyfriend exaggerated his accounts of the situation on Reddit to get the internet in a rage over dishonesty in games journalism, like Jeff Gerstmann getting fired for Kane & Lynch, Depression Quest & Tropes VS Women.

It stopped being about that almost instantly, and begun encompassing much more IMO. But that was the spark.

So out of the three main women behind the CA doc, Holly, as one of the higher-ups, knew what was really up with J-Dub and had kept her mouth shut for the longest time. Kaylyn/MarzGurl claims she didn't know until just recently.

That leaves us with Allison/Lupa. As the undeniable spearhead of this massive campaign of ex-contributors against an autistic Internet site, where does she stand in regards to this whole bombshell of information that just keeps on delivering?

To be honest, I think MarzGurl is probably the only person who's actually innocent in all of this.

Then again, I used to think that about lots of other people, many I counted as my heroes.

Seeing how close she and Holly are, she might've found out before the others and just held onto that information to use when it suited her purposes.

Currently, all we know about what the majority of the producers who were part of the Google Doc knew about Justin comes from Olson, who claimed that they only learned a few weeks prior to the Doc going up. Olson also claimed that the victims didn't want this brought into the limelight (which led to his now infamous "we kept it secret because of GG" line), hence why they didn't go through with it.

Say... isn't Dan Olsen that guy who pumped 8chan full of CP to try and make it look bad years ago?

Yes, yes he is. Nothing he says on the matter can be trusted.

That's him! Only it didn't "count" as CP where 8chan is, but it did count as CP where he was...

Question: was this guy ever Channel Awesome alumni or is he exclusive to Chez Apocalypse? Because if the former, there's a recurring theme in Channel Loathsome.
