IRL they are basically un-fuckable and couldn't punch their way out of a paper bag, they are trying to portray it as some sort of deeply significant biographical story when it's just a masturbatory wet dream.

The art is okay and fits for what the comic is supposed to be, but the choice to make random extras be characters from children's books or cartoons is, quite frankly, bizarre and jarring. It's like Perez made that to be a point in the comic to say something, but it's unclear what. Are we supposed to be shocked at seeing children's cartoon characters in a comic about a transgender prostitute? I've seen more subversive art showing copyrighted characters doing even more extreme and grotesque things, and those actually said something. There's no reason for the main character's boss to be Clifford the Big, Red Dog. Having Jon Arbuckle appear as a cat-lady's husband is funny, but I don't think it's funny in a way Perez intended.

The best part of the comic were the bits about Tom and Edna, who are the only two sympathetic characters in this whole story. Most everybody else is as selfish and as vain as the protagonist. Tom gets brushed aside and looked down on for being old and not up-to-date with the latest PC terminology, and is essentially friend-zoned by protag. (She says, tongue firmly in cheek.) Better to go back to Bumfuck, Michigan and live off of daddy's dollar than to live with a dude who you supposedly like enough to keep company and fuck.

Sorry. The self-insert is just such an asshole.

Reading that, I was extremely confused. The narrative is sort of all over the place, and as everyone's said it's a self-indulgent circlejerk and what Michelle wishes her life was like.

The illustrations are also mediocre at best, absolute garbage at worst. And the quality only decrases the further into the "storyline" you get - I'm not sure if that's supposed to be symbolism or just laziness on the artist's part.

He's a leftist furry hipster who unexpectedly got really big in indie music circles after releasing Twin Fantasy, an album about his breakup with trans furry webcomic artist Cate Wurtz. They all make very similar content, so it's likely that they ran in the same circles beforehand.

I have nothing to say about the comic itself other than that post-puberty Charlie Brown calling the self-insert a "fuckin gross tranny" is hilarious.

It is interesting that they don't explain precisely why it is 'Groundbreaking'... furthermore, the Artist, Remy, is called a Trans Woman. There is a Posting on this thread claiming she is F-T-M-T-F, surely that is a Cis Woman? Or is she truly pretending to be a M-T-F?

Edit: She says she has Trauma from seeing a Dead Trans Prostitute in Sandman, but I do not believe this Book is a Better example...

Okay, it’s been well over a decade since I’ve read through the series but, for the life of me, I can’t remember a dead trans prostitute in Sandman? I recall plenty of dead lesbian and gay characters (which is apparently ok). Is she talking about Wanda? Wanda was fucking golden don’t you besmirch her.

Wanda wasn't even a prostitute and she was treated with a lot of sympathy. She was a well-written trans character in a time where there really weren't any.

I've seen a bunch of twits try and give Neil Gaiman shit over what was a very progressive comic at the time and they were just needlessly nasty and rude to the man.

These people treat artists and writers the way that the worst customers treat retail and food service employees.

After having skimmed through the book, I think watching gore videos for a couple of hours is far less depressing than this “comic”.

Perez is by far the most convoluted individual I've followed on this site, especially with the release of the comic and various interviews coming out (which I duly thank them for giving her a platform.)

Everyone is fucking gushing about the comic as this golden example of trans sex work. How this story needs to be told. But when you take Perez's exceptional Twitter behavior and her goddamn photos...all I get is a hilariously tragic study of Perez herself, a deeply disturbed and violent person. Having slogged through the comic cements that fact more.

The interivew is fucking hilarious. It reveals that not only Remy (the artist) hates the title, but the overall project caused whatever crazy relationship she had with Perez to end. Both of them can't seem to get it straight. Out of Perez's mouth this is some kind of 100% autobiography, and Remy say's 75% with mixed in shit. I will say this, I truly believe the parts depicting Perez's anger issues and hyper sexual dysfunction to be accurate. The rest of it? Vignettes that go no where, and masturbatory power trips of pure fiction. I love the fact that the pervert is in fact "Tom" of the story. The old man. WTF.

I will be.....generous and say Remy is a rather talented niche artist. But they need to get away from Perez and find someone that can actually write a goddamn story. To be even further generous and take this is a true and honest story, Perez is still a fucking asshole.
