I really need to read that slowly and hope I don't miss the context. These are just my interpretations, so I hope I won't argue against a strawman.
- So because he is okayish at a crippled hand full games (these are the "go to games", what ever that means) other streamers have no talent, if they say that Phil is not good at a game.
Eh, I, wha. Did I miss something? Is there any logic to this? Streamer says I'm a poop but HE is a poop. What? This doesn't follow, Phil. Do I really need to explain this?
- It's not a talent to be funny or being likeable.
Of course this is Phil's mentality to protect himself. He is not funny or likeable, so these aspects aren't even
"real" talents a streamer needs to have.
Well, except this is
exactly what people want to see from a streamer. For this exact reason they
are big and famous. Where does he think these numbers came from? Are they undeserved famous because Phil says so? Did I not bought this sausage sandwich at a local shop because somebody defines a sausage sandwich differently?
And yes, it
is a talent. There are some debates under smug artists what a "talent" really is (
nuuuh, it's not a talent bc I worked hard to earn my skills) but the very basic states that it's a natural personal groundwork that makes future gaining of skills easier
OR something you are just better at in comparison to other people with the same amount of training in this subject.
So being social with people, being likeable, making friends, being nice is indeed a talent. Phil does not has it.
It's also a talent to have a sense of humor. Phil does not has it, he just pretends to be a funny guy.
Apparently he has also no talent in connecting dots.
- It's a talent to be good at games people like.
Well yes, it's a talent to be better at games than others. But this "talent" is a conglomerate of many different talents. Being able to focus, being able to link different informations in a short time, reflexes, a sense of strategy (being organised is also helpful), multitasking. However everyone plays games differently and the result can still be classified as "being good" because it flippin
works. As even stated, there are thousands of different games. It's not possible to not find a game that suits you and your specific set of natural skills (=talent). So why in the name of gout would especially the big famous streamers be the ones without any talent, being bad in every single genre, in every single game? This doesn't follow, Phil. At all. I also thought you don't watch any streamers so how do you know that? Because they are not you so they must be bad? Because people should watch
you and only
you?
Ah yes, and it's not a talent to pick a popular game. You just watch the statistics, that's all. The fuck, Phil?
- People are not interested in a game when the streamer is bad at it.
I see where he is going to, but he says a lot of stuff the one way and means something very different. Yes, a game looks more boring/bad when the player is not good at it, so it seems the game is bad in general. Basically exactly what Phil does with every game, so yes I agree.
- People pick up popular games but they are not ... "go to games"
What does that mean? What is a "go to game"? Is it a game that you can fall back to because you are good at it? Is it the genre you are good in so you should pick them up for your audience? Thematize your channel like "This guy is really good at it, so he is our go-to-guy"?
Also, just let people play what they want, you poop! When they like a game, they like a game. And to get better at an actual genre or type of game, you need to actually play the game. Is it forbidden to do that, Phil? Buying and playing an interesting looking game? Isn't this what an average gamer would do instead of just watching at the views, Mister "I stop streaming a game because the views are low"? Veeery hypocritical.
- You should perhaps actully get good at games you know instead of just sitting there complaining there is no good game (actual quote).
Okay, I won't throw his hypocritical statement back at him how he's also very bad at games, learns nothing and complains all the time. This doesn't change the argument. The argument itself is bad enough because it's basically a fabricated wrong statement? Who complains there is no good game in this amazing year 2018? Who even has the problem being not good at a game and therefore the views of the
big famous streamer with the big views are low? Sure, there are people like that. Phil is one of them so there is at least one, I'll give him that. Except he never has high views and is neither big nor positively famous.
Phil is great in pumping up a mouse big problem into an elephanterous desaster. When one person in his chat writes "The sky is purple right now" Phil goes on a rant of how the sky is purple all the time. When one streamer says something vaguely negative about a specific detail, then it means all the streamers are 105% negative about everything. Just like Tolo hasn't stated he hates MHW.
The best at last:
- You know because... not only am i entertaining on stream [...] (actual quote)
Okay, I have several problems with that but it reflects perfectly what an asshole he is.
(1) You don't say that, even if it's true. Never rate your own streams or videos entertaining. Swallow these statements down. This is smug. Pure smug. A person who says that appear as very unlikeable. You don't have to decide how people see your streams, they decide it.
(2) Has he learned that in business school? I mean, there are some things you can rate on your product, like "Tasty Ice Cream" or "Useful Tool" or even "Very Nice Service", which helps the ware even if it's a lie. Simple marketing: Make the people believe they need the goods and that it's awesome. But there is a difference between rating your product
and yourself. Your talking, playing and rock in front of the camera is not a product or even a service, it's a person doing nothing, presenting something nobody needs and nobody pays for. Sounds a little bit like a fraud, isn't it?
(3) You see yourself different than others. When I see myself as very nice, others could see me as a horrible person (or even vice versa).
Which is of course not right for this example, because I'm factually awesome and very handsome, but everybody already knows that, hahaha.
(4) You are not entertaining. My view on it.
(5) You are not entertaining. Views of thousands of people on it.
(6) You are not entertaining. Raw cold numbers of your stream and videos.
