There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Why would this mean talks aren't gonna happen?

Well it could be a mental leap on my part but as China is a dictatorship, and the US is strengthening relations with Taiwan then they may not be too happy about the Norks dealing with China. Could be wrong though

It's becoming increasingly difficult to keep my optimism properly contained. This entire story arc just keeps steadily improving. For the love of God please keep going well, we're getting so close.
While I wouldn't say this is the best case scenario, still better than what could've happened

I swear if Trump pulls this off... I'd love to see the mental gymnastics by the fuckheads out there.

"Yeah well, Hillary would have brokered peace and even quicker than Trump!"

Fuck no! Hillary was a chickenhawk you dumb cucks.

"Yeah trump help broker peace between the Koreas, but he's still x,y,z". Sexist, Xenophobic, Racist, Transphobic. Pick your poison.

I mean, it's one thing to kick the can down the road, but it means something else when there isn't wanton bloodshed that seems like the easiest way out. Good on us for not freaking out about the missile tests, aside from the usual YouTube comments section of course.

I'm already seeing people saying that "Obama laid the groundwork".
The same thing was said about Reagan, that JFK laid the groundwork, despite there being a gap of twenty-four fucking years, more than half East Germany's time of existence.

With that, these talks are a dog and pony show and won't change anything regarding North Korea. You'd have to be batshit delusional to believe Little Rocket Man will denuclearize. Even Iran would be more likely to stop trying to develop WMD.

People also thought Trump wouldn't be elected

Nah, the Trump opposition is gonna be crediting the South Korean president.

Agreed. Talking outta my ass here, but I think Kim is just acting friendly so he has a place to run when there's a coupe. His military is apparently starving so it's only a matter of time before they turn on him.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How hard am I going to regret being really optimistic about this?
The world's been such a mess for so long now that I don't fault anyone for being so hesitant to embrace optimism, but barely two weeks ago we were supposed to kick off WW3, three months ago we were supposed to start a war with Russia, barely a year ago and North Korea was supposed to start blasting us with nukes. The economy was supposed to crash, the tariffs were supposed to start a trade war, martial law was supposed to be enforced when Antifa kicked off a civil war, and all the way back at the very start, Trump was supposed to get absolutely crushed in the election. You name it, someone's panicked about it and been completely in the wrong.

None of that's really happened though, has it? If anything it seems like only the opposite of whatever they're trying to get you to panic about seems to be what keeps happening. Sooner or later maybe people should start to open up to the idea that just maybe it's possible that everything isn't going so bad, and maybe a little optimism can go a long way. We've had enough negativity whirling around us to keep anyone mired in depression, and I've had just about enough of it to last me several lifetimes.

A little optimism really doesn't seem too unreasonable in light of how everything's been going, lately. It's not been all that shabby at all, has it?

And then that's all the other side of the fence has to offer. All-encompassing negativity. No joy, no love, no desire to see anyone or anything improve, just a never-ending maelstrom of hate and suffering and racism and a childish revulsion towards all things positive just because a goofy man with weird hair is involved, and they can't let go of their addiction to hatred for more than two seconds to just be happy, for once.

I'll keep my red hat and stay right where I am, thank you.
