There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Does this peace mean that the US is going to mostly leave SouK and then they'll be ripe for the conquest? Or am I just being pessimistic?

You guys are giving Trump a bit too much credit. From DPRK's point of view they can't plan around the president because he's not assured to act rationally which is was more or less assumed of the United States when doing foreign policy analysis. North Korea's own strategy has been described as "ferocious, weak, and crazy" and it fails against another apparently crazy adversary especially one that's much stronger.

I believe that Trump does whatever Mattis tells him and Mattis tells him to keep saying whatever he feels like.

Doubt it, who knows what'll happen. Maybe it was all a ruse from North Korea. Maybe Japan will take offense to this turn of events. Maybe shit goes wrong and China and/or Russia (or even other countries thanks to the whole China vs India and Israel vsSyria shit going on as well) end up getting involved.

At this point, unless we hear any proper confirmation regarding such actions, I'm going to have to say no on that.

McDonalds on streets of North Korea: Kim Jong-un wants USA to invest in Pyongyang

As Kim Jong-un lifts the veil on his secretive regime and vows to shut down his nuclear test site, it has now emerged his regime is eager for former enemy the US to invest in North Korea and expand its economy.

Chung In Moon, special adviser to President Moon Jae-in, suggested American fast food giant McDonalds could even set up outlets in Pyongyang as tensions between North Korea and the West thaw.

He said: "They want American investment."

"They want American investment coming to North Korea.

"They welcome American sponsors and multilateral consortiums coming into North Korea."

He added building a Trump Tower might be a possibility for future "modern" North Korea.

His comments come after the historic moment that North Korean Kim Jong-un stepped into the South with Moon and exchanged a landmark handshake.

In a passing statement, North Korean officials said they wanted their regime to be a "normal country" and brought up the possibility of a "McDonalds-style" US investment.

The state dinner was streamed live all over the world on Friday, but was only revealed to North Koreans 12 hours later when Kim Jong-un returned back home.

The reception continued during the day summit, where the Korean leaders signed a joint pledge, outlining their goal towards a "complete" denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

Kim was praised for his diplomatic move crossing the border to the South and initiating denuclearisation talks.

However, skeptics have raised concerns that the pledge may not hold strong, recalling the regime's previous unfulfilled peace declarations.

Details of the meeting emerged as observers reported the North Korean leader sipping on champagne, while his officials mentioned the possibility investing in US markets.

In a fleeting statement, Kim said he was "embarrassed" by his country's "poor infrastructure" after South Korean president Moon Jae-in mentioned he would like to visit the North and climb Mount Paektu.

The North Korean leader is expected to meet with US president Donald Trump in May.

The location has not been confirmed, but it is believed the talks will be held in either Singapore or Mongolia.

Mr Trump said: "We'll be setting up a meeting very shortly.

"We have broken it down to probably two sites.

"And hopefully we're going to have great success."

Okay, I can safely say that I didn't see that one coming. Also, that "We just want to be a normal country" line up there is interesting, I've seen a lot of countries say that recently, right before they started taking on major reformation efforts. I think Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince said that exact, same line right before he started taking an axe to all of those extremist laws.

If this goes well this'll be great news. Look how South Korea flourished under US investment/occupation with military bases.

Kimmy just knows McDonalds has the most Mickey Mouse toys, and we all know how much he loves Mickey. And hamburgers.

Call me crazy, but it's hard to buy a dictator dynasty that has been oppressing it's people or outright killing them for over 60 years to suddenly have a change of heart.

Huh, if Un's this serious about it, I'd be willing to expect it.

But at this point, anything can still happen, and while I'm hopeful we can succeed at it. I'm not 100% sure if it'll stick for too long before they start going back to their old ways.

I have to wonder if KJU was reaching a point where there was slowing demand for God-Emperors north of the 38th parallel.
Supposedly the military's not eating so good anymore based on the reports of raids into China for supplies by random units and China's been getting increasingly disinterested in the DPRK's shit in general.

This might have been a good opportunity for KJU to get out while he could still cruise to a cushy enough life afterwards.
