Fetish Communities

As a furry of the particularly active and super-sexy variety I feel I may have some additional insight into the mentality behind certain popular fetishes within the fandom. I see vore and some other common ones crop up in this thread a lot. There's a popular underlying dom/sub dynamic in the fandom and due to the average furry's lack of a fundamental understanding of relationships and how they function "vore" is sometimes popular because it's a togetherness kind of thing. Again, it's a bit bent out of shape, but it's a form of union (usually between two people who've never met IRL and who probably won't ever). As far as digestion and "hard vore" goes, that's usually a completely different kind of crowd.

Cub/loli/CP furry stuff is generally frowned upon unanimously by pretty much anyone level-headed in the fandom. There was this outcry a few years back when FurAffinity pulled the plug on cub art (or art of fictional characters known to be under 18). There are a lot of people circumventing this rule, but as a whole the greater fandom tries to discourage and keep cub out of the community. FurAffinity is a cess pool of shit, though, so of course their cub demographic would get pissy (pun intended) about things. The mentality is pervasive at conventions as well as there was a stink regarding Softpaw Magazine (a publication specializing in cub art) selling at vendor allies and stuff like that. As far as I know, you cannot openly sell pornographic cub/underage artwork at major conventions anymore. The powers that be within the fandom have been making some great strides to clean up and somewhat legitimize the fandom to an extent.

I don't have too many fetishes, considering I've been in the fandom almost 15 years I guess that's an accomplishment. Full disclosure, however, I do happen to own "exotic" toys, haha. :oops: I've been through the worst the fandom has to offer, things like over-sexualization of childrens' characters, plushophilia, and umpteen diaperfurs. I've seen the mysteries of Fox Wolfie Galen, ShadowWolfess, and that guy who was really REALLY into Meeko the raccoon. :cryblood:

Do you have any idea why some furries get deeply, like DEEPLY obsessed with one cartoon character in particular? Like that Meeko guy, Atimon, those weirdos on dA who really love Kaa from The Jungle Book... I also remember one article on ED about a guy who was extremely into Norbert from Angry Beavers for some reason.

I hate to give the obvious kneejerk response, but "autism".

It goes deeper than that, though. A lot of these people that get wildly obsessed with a specific character are deeply troubled. I mentioned in the Onigojirakaiju thread, whom my partner knows, that Oni is a pretty disturbed fellow and he's latched onto these idealized images of movie slashers because he has no sense of identity. He's vengeful, apparently has been wronged by people close to him, and unstable; that's pretty much Freddy or Michael Meyers in a nutshell. He is them.

In most cases (that I've seen at least) the obsessive person isn't actively harmful or anything like that. They just get obsessed with a specific character because they have no real-life relationships to maintain or build. Cartoon characters are likeable and colorful and they're on TV for kids because their personalities are pretty cut and dry and easy for people with social development disorders to "get". A lot of the same theories that apply to Sonic and autism are in effect here. Usually there's not a very happy story behind someone obsessed with a kids' show. I can specifically recall a loner I came across who was obsessed with Dragon Tales and wrote up these lengthy sexual stories about the characters; if you read the guy's journals it was just a nightmare. Either he was exaggerating his plight or this was just some extreme coping mechanism. Cartoon characters are a friend for Everyman and most of them have plushies or figurines that you can old onto and at least feel some form of company when no one else will spend time with you (think "Fred" from I Am Legend and "Wilson" from Cast Away).

Some of the first furries online that had obsessions with childrens' characters were actually pretty old compared to their target demographic (late twenties and up). For some of the older ones it's kind of like age regression play I suppose (Meeko guy, possibly Fox Galen). You get older, things start to not work as well as they used to, and then here comes this idealized peppy young cartoon character that's hip with all the kids. The age you wish you were again.

People who come up with fursonas and get creepy about things are generally harmless and misguided people, but I always kind of feel a twinge of pity for the ones who get ensnared with enamoration for a specific toon. There is usually a bad story behind that obsession.

edit: Kaa is specifically a hypnosis fetish, actually. It's not so much that someone is captivated specifically by Kaa, it's just that he can make others bend to his whim. He could literally be replaced with any other creature with the same power and the fandom around him would not change at all. Jungle Book was seen by a lot of kids back in the day and even more sexually confused people.

Can't help but feel I'm the only one who went through the thread and maybe gave a shrug at some bits
but then again, I'm utterly squicked out by cum, so I guess I'm not one to comment on others making such a big deal out of everything. :P

edit: So, there was some build-up in the community chatbox when it said "Super Sexy Action Furry has responded to Assorted weird fetishes" and some of you were let down by my somber sad dad post. A few posts up I mentioned some oddball kinks that hadn't yet been brought up, and I'm essentially an open book... mostly in regards to the furry fandom. I don't subscribe to much personally but I've been exposed to and dealt with tons of weird people over the years.

As per the community rules I keep things very low key and I don't associate my account here with my fandom self. I've made the rounds with the furverts and I guess over in FurryLand I am moderately well known. If there are any fandom-based sex questions that have been bothering you fire away and I'll do my best to shed some light on the matter.

How do furries clean the fursuit after they've fucked in it? For that matter, how does one fuck in a fursuit? Wouldn't all the fur and padding give them a heat stroke? How do they see what they're doing? What about touching? Even if they take off their gloves during, how could they feel their partner through the suit? Or is the suit itself the erotic part?

Maybe? I'm actually not sure... I remember this page having a picture of his work station absolutely wallpapered with Angry Beavers merch and artwork, but that was before the many deaths and rebirths of ED. I also remember the article giving me a very queasy feeling as I read it. This article, not so much. I kind of respect the guy's attitude. Sure, he's a fucking freak, but at least he admits it. It's kind of inspiring that someone that fucked up can learn to love himself just the way he is...

Right, so here's the thing with "murrsuits" that's kind of gross: they are not easy to clean. Since cleaning them is an ordeal, and since a lot of furries are notoriously lazy, you can do the math here. It's not that suits go completely unwashed (that's a rarity), usually the case is that the washing gets half-assed. Most upscale suit creators (Beastcub, Don't Hug Cacti, FurrHappens, Made Fur You, etc etc etc) will NOT make murrsuits. They actively refuse any orders for them because it contributes to a part of the fandom they do not wish to perpetuate. This leaves some of the lesser-known and usually sub-par suit creators to pick up the pieces and make cheap murrsuits out of crap material and usually with poor construction. That's why the suits generally look suspect.

Most of the time the paws, feet, and head of a suit are removable and separate from the suit itself. The paws are usually the piece that gets washed most often, for obvious reasons. That's why the paws always look so disgusting and haggard. The suits themselves aren't machine washable and they don't fit in washing machines anyways, so they need to be dry cleaned (expensive) or spot cleaned. This of course is where the half-assing comes into play. There's an in-joke in the fandom that some of the more unscrupulous furs will just Febreeze the hell out of a suit and call it a day. The lack of care shown with these suits is evidence by yellowing and matted/clumpy fur.

So that's how the suits are washed, or aren't washed depending on how you interpret the question. That's also why it's a good idea to avoid people wearing suspicious suits in public because even though that's fucking gross people STILL wear murrsuits in public (usually with shorts to cover up the holes). That's my biggest point of contention with a lot of furs I've had altercations with, because I will call them out on it. The bit you brought up about heatstroke is also a concern because I can say after having worn suits before, they are a goddamn oven. The sweat doesn't help with the whole cleaning issues either.

People who wear suits can see out of the eyes or the mouths depending on how the suit is built. The paws kind of get in the way of touching and feeling things, so people who yiff in suits tend to use it as an extension of role playing with each other since it really is just glorified RP. Some people are attracted to the "anonymity" of the suit, others see it as an extension of self, and still others are into it for the whole animal/zoophilia twist it offers. It's kind of hard to summarize the draw to fursuits with a single reply though.

I neglected to share this fact because I secretly hoped someone else would provide it for me. Darky speaks the truth. A "meeko" is literally a unit of measurement in the plushophilia community. Stop the ride, I want to get off now. I've always been a little bit hazy as to what a "meeko" actually is; originally I assumed that it was the physical size of the toy so that if you, say, saw the giant horse plushie at FAO Schwartz you'd say it was "four meekos tall". I've also heard the version of it being an arbitrary measurement of perceived attractiveness, though I always thought that was more of a snide thing since that's a subjective measurement.

From what I can tell the term is no longer in use anymore, but since I am currently at my desk at work I am not going to look that up. :P
