Sargon of Akkad has been giving me cringes lately. He used to be decent, but it feels like he is moving towards being another Chris Cuntwell lately.
For me, he used to just be a boring monotone voice that managed to make news articles even more dull. Kinda like a cartoon history teacher. And now that he does all this cringey shit, he’s mildly interesting, like a cartoon math teacher. Either way, his content brings up repressed memories of how boring middleschool was

I think in many respects Carl is a victim of his own success. He found his niche as a pioneer of the Gamergate controversy, and the success he enjoyed from that meant that he was lucky enough to make a career out of it. The problem he now faces is the conundrum of how to keep that career going as it becomes increasingly obvious that he is running out of new things to say, and I'm not entirely certain that he will be able to keep it going.

YouTube is a fickle place where trends come and go, and in order to stand the test of time as a content creator you have to be creative enough to know how to reinvent yourself and appeal to changing audiences. I can't say I'm convinced that Carl is one of those people.

Christopher Hitchens was a public thinker. The idea that Sargon is placed in the same category as him makes me want to blow my brains out. I agree with you that he has effectively lost all hope of winning an election with the whole white nigger thing but do you honestly think he will be content pontificating on youtube forever? Especially since all projections indicate that the whole "feminists are lame you guys" schtick on youtube is dying out. If he doesnt move on to greener fields soon he may well get left behind with a small group of circle jerking sycophants. I believe he will at least take a crack at running for election. He will probably claim he is doing it ironically though.
I didnt say he'd make waves to be fair.

And he has the accent. Adds +10 IQ points to the passive listener

The whole “ I wouldn’t even rape you” has pretty much destroyed any political ambition Sargon may have held.
The worst part about this was that he said he sat down for several hours thinking about this, debating with himself whether it was necessary to put the "even" in there, and even after that he STILL thought this was a good idea and would successfully convey the intended "message" that "even the antithesis of a rape threat would be considered one."

Most cows do stupid shit on the spot because they're irrational and can't think things through, but Sargon usually does think them through and still makes terrible decisions like this anyway.

In eight hours Sargon has gotten £38,731.

How wealthy is the person suing him? If they're going to try to kill one another with money, Sargon might be biting off more than he can chew depending on how much beyond the goal this goes.

Question: do these kinds of fundraisers generally bring in additional significant donations after the goal has been reached? It's not like there are stretch goals or backer rewards.

Appears to just be a run of the mill feminist youtuber/writer. Doesn't appear to be that big, since before googling her name I'd never heard of her outside her viral "get more diversity, less white people is what I'm talking about" statement, which I didn't even know was her before doing so. If I had to guess she's probably affording it through corporate sponsorships, since SJW types tend to receive good treatment from higher ups that agree with their narrative despite their work being unpopular.

Sargon says he's going broke, so remaining money will probably be used to help finance the remaining trips he's already agreed to do.

He is so going to lose, but framing a copyright case as a freedom of speech one sure is brings in the money, only question is will he lose more then he will get from his fans

Couldnt he have just deleted the video? Is it really worth risking going broke and tapping your fans for a single video?

Oh, but you see, that would be the action of a non-exceptional individual who has the ability to cut his losses.

Sargon is not that. He is a dipshit who can never accept that he is incorrect about something, and when it comes to choosing which hill to die on, he chooses all of them.

It's incredible. He has effectively made the same video hundreds of times over. Instead of editing out the offending segment or just deleting what is in essence a shitpost video he chooses to risk bankrupting himself and threaten the wellbeing of his family. Anyone who gave money to this should have their wallets sewn shut.

While I don't think what Carl did qualifies as fair use, I also think it's patently ridiculous that the woman suing him is seeking $150,000 in damages for it. In what way has her reputation been damaged to the point where $150,000 could be deemed reasonable compensation? All he did was repost a section of one of her videos to his YouTube channel with a mildly disrespectful title. Is that really worth getting into an expensive legal quagmire over? This whole situation makes them both pathetic, frankly. The average 10 year old has more perspective and self-awareness than this.

Couldn't you even argue that by being exposed to Sargon's audience, the woman's videos got more attention and views? This case is probably going to raise her star even more among the right crowds. I think I just answered my own question.

Or he's not broke, and he realizes his audience is stupid enough to fling a lot of money at anyone who says they're "at war with SJWs!".
Well, he just said in his current stream (about an hour in) that he apparently dipped into his savings to pay for the lawyer because he really didn't want to have to e-beg for it, but that some unexpected travel costs drained it faster than he had counted. Says he talked to his wife about what to do and decided that he had no other choice.
Unlikely that he's trying to scam his fanbase for money, as he later responds to a superchat saying that they increased their monthly donation from 5 to 100 by telling them that that's excessive and that he doesn't think he should accept that much.

If he really did exhaust all of his savings on this before addressing it than that was pretty irresponsible, although without knowing the details it's hard to know if he even had a choice, since this Akilah person was asking for a ridiculous sum of money and we don't know how much for which she was willing to settle outside of court.

Would have thought his wife would mitigate this somewhat. Sargon seems to fill the part of stay at home dad so I'd be surprised if his wife doesn't have a job.
