Anyone else seen this advertised on YouTube? It flabbergasted me how something straight out of some HAES Tumblr blog could actually afford to host ads.

ofc the autor is white

edit: i also start read the webcomic. And bitch, what a unpleasant character and her sarcastic bullshit

well it's the 3rd episode and what can i say ? it's really cliché, you already know what's going to happen because it's a typical shoujo-like scenario and i think the target audiance are clearly 9-14 years old girl, so that's definitely not my cup of tea.
The art is... quite ok i'll say ? Sometimes the characters feels like they are melting, it disturbed me for some reason.

You see the eye bruises? It's because the guy on the right gave her a fake stage kiss and the guy on the left got mad and they started arguing. And then Jo apparently PUNCHED both of them.
"Bruises"...? But those are lines. Bruises don't come out in lines, especially not ones that radiate from the center. How can you fuck that up? If she uses pink blush for joints, why didn't she do it in purple for bruises? Why draw them like that? Let me guess: people tend to draw grazed skin with hatch marks (single or double) and she drew whatever without really thinking. I'm baffled.

So far the fandom has been pretty good. Besides people drawing certain characters darker the fandom isn't too bad.

Although I hate it when people redesign certain hero costumes, arguing that certain designs are sexist. It's like they can't understand that certain heroes need skimpier costumes for their quirks. Momo's chest is more exposed so she can create items faster. Midnight dresses all skimpy because she likes looking sexy and uses it to distract her opponents. SJW's get so caught up over nothing.

One thing I think important too in boku no hero academia is that heros are widely shown as models, with a lot of fans in the population: costumes designs are crafted based on battle and representation for the public who watch them save the world. It is easier to idealize/ like these heroes if they have stylish costumes.

A good comic about it is Freak's squeele, scripted and drawn by Florent Maudoux. It presents the adventures of Chance, Xiong Mao and Ombre de Loup, three students who begin the curriculum of the Faculty of Academic Studies of Heroes (F.E.A.H.), one of the universities training superheroes.

Beware! It's a french "bande dessinée" which is just starting to be translated into English, but it's a really good stuff. :)

What an awful tutorial. It's a pet peeve of mine, but I really hate it when artists themselves don't use the rule of show & tell. How is this tutorial supposed to help anyone? All you do is say do "this and that"? What is this and that? What are some major differences between anime and manga? How can these styles vary? You could make an entire tutorial on noses alone.

I think that this also shows the laziness of some of these artists. You can't just go from 0 to 100 in 3 steps. It takes time and effort. All this tutorial shows is how to uglyfy a character even more. The artist doesn't seem to understand what style means at all.

Ah shit I’m late. I need to check this place out more.

The only thing I'm wondering about is the literal gray skin on Bonnie. It can't be a stylistic choice--Freddy also has a darker skintone but still manages to look like...not like a corpse towed out of the river. Odd.
That’s most definitely a slightly misguided attempt at making an exaggerated and more harmonious colour scheme. Toy Bonnie’s blue so the artist made his skin more bluish to make it match his clothes. The only reason Freddy has a natural looking darker skin tone is because his main colour is already brown and it already fits in line with the rest of what he’s wearing and that background.
This should be fine but looking at Freddy and Bonnie together, it looks like they’re in completely different rooms. It’s annoying. I’d actually really like the strange choice of skin but Bonnie’s in a cold cellar and Freddy’s in a warm living room or something. It’s better to be consistent.

No clue if it means much but both Bonnie and Chica have marginally more normal looking skin tones if you grab the colours of their respective background-squares, invert them and set them to a ‘soft light’ blend layer.

Tumblrinas are too busy being ‘cool’ and ‘progressive’ to understand even the tiniest bit of basic stylisation. Hey, you know why people don’t draw pink haired pretty girls as realistically as this picture? Really wanna know why?
‘Cause it’s ugly. People get uncomfortable when you give out too much information and they also get uncomfortable when you put too much unneeded detail into a piece of art. They don’t need to know what kind of porn you watch and they don’t need to know how saggy a person’s face is or that they have huge messy man-brows unless the person in question is a scruffy old man in the first place.

This isn’t a scruffy old man. Controlling which details you draw into a piece of art doesn’t work like that.

:(
(eh, ngl I really forced a lot of this just so I wouldn’t be rated late...)

I wouldn't say the act of depicting a character more realistically makes designs look ugly by default. After all, western comics have managed to depict more naturalistic proportions while still maintaining an appealing aesthetic, as do some works that I found here:

I think that the more prominent issue is that this is clearly someone who learned "realistic" proportions not by drawing from life or even by using photographs, but by copying the styles of other artists who actually did. You can tell this person has no grasp on the underlying structures of the features since her mouth and nose are slanted to one side with her other eye way off to the other side and giving her a flounder face. Another indicator is the way every single line is the same weight and size with only one or two that have a different thickness, meaning she doesn't understand how lines work to mold objects and features. Hell, her line weight is actually better on the anime one than it is on the so called "realistic" depiction, which server to make her features pop a lot more.

It's sheer unwarranted arrogance to passive-aggressively talk down to people for not knowing how to depict more realistic features due to copying an exaggerated style when they clearly don't grasp the fundamentals either.

Despite what Tumblr thinks, making hook noses, sticking out teeth and slanted puffy eyes appealing when put on one portrait at once isn't as easy as ABC.

There's a reason few anime use hook noses, it's harder to keep them consistent from all angles.

It seems that everytime tumblr makes an art guide this happens.

There are good guides on Tumblr. The problem is that due to the tagging system it'll be harder to find them. So more than likely, what's the most popular shows up first and that's sadly what these artists use as a guide.

I'd like to believe that as an artist you are not only critical of what you make but what OTHERS make as well. When you're younger you aren't going to notice small anatomical mistakes which is why it's even more important you get a varied experience of the basics. I don't think these Tumblr artists that draw this weird art style thing even understand what makes a style. It's not just your favorite artists that you desperately try to copy. It can be that plus learning the basics.
