You didn't watch much Fox News in the 2000's, did you?

Yeah, funny thing about Fox News and Talk Radio. They spent much of the 2000’s sperging about boycotts, but they had virtually no impact on anything. They rarely if ever do. And this goes in both Left and a Right directions. Every time the Left targets Chik fil E their sales increase by double digits. That was the unusual thing about Gamergate. They avoided calling for boycotts and instead assigned costs in odd yet rather effective asymmetrical ways. Mostly by targeting advertisers. Or targeting secondary businesses to the affair and forcing a stand. The Left recently adopted a similar approach in going after Sean Hannity. It was a rather effective blueprint for depleting your opponent of ad revenue and making them toxic for other partners.

I think the opposite, actually.

I think GG only "won" (a term I use very loosely given the very little they got vs what they set out to get) because it was able to sway some normalfags and your lightweight 4chan casuals. Peak GG had a huge, colorful cast of freaks that got everyone excited and ready to get in on, and as it went on and you were left with the hardcore, that core demonstrated themselves to be not very capable at all.

Think of it as the Sargon vs Metokur split; one side was all in it for fun and bashing nerds, the other thought it was -as you just described it- a literal war, with "battles" to be fought and all this faggy shit. That shit drives away your funny element and the casuals that help push anything though. Comicsgate for example, far and away the only thing that has gotten big enough to be considered a genuine successor to GG, is a shell of what happened in 2014/2015. From everything I can see, it's treated as the pet project of a single guy and his legion of fans, a far cry from the overwhelming spergout of GamerGate.

Autism doesn't win your "culture wars", humor does. And what's left of these guys are so autistic they couldn't crack a good joke if their lives depended on it.

I disagree - not on humor not winning, that's fucking accurate, but on what "won" GG. The hashtag's biggest accomplishments all involve the spergs' collective weaponized Autism, from the active boycotts and email campaigns (which to this day ex-Gawker staff blames for Gawker's demise more than Hulk Hogan's lawsuit), to the fucking barrage of shitposting that hallmarked the war on Twitter (and was hilarious).

The normies, as you colorfully put in the above, were never going to give GG a fair shot. Quinn's enablers in the press saw to that personally.

With Quinn and Anita constantly getting air-time, the pair going before Congress, going before the UN, and so on, there was only one side that ever had a chance in the public arena. Find one article from that time that even acknowledged that GG was anything other than what the usual suspects claimed it was and wasn't from a Pro-GG source, and you may as well be holding a fucking unicorn. Quinn and her associates went scorched earth against anyone who dared put up articles that were going to handle GG in a balanced fashion (see also: The Escapist). Anyone who so much as showed an inkling of being willing to call GG anything other than quadruple Hitler with cheese would get fucking bombarded by GG opponents, all shouting the same fucking canard that continues to this very day: That hearing GG out in any capacity is tantamount to enabling harassers.

Think back to when CON added David Pakman, a left-wing journo, on their McCarthy-esque "enemies list" for daring to ask Brianna Wu and Arthur Chu anything other than pre-scripted "softball" questions and had their associates DDOS him. Think back to when they successfully got the SPJ to deny any officiation of Koretzky's discussion with big names in GG (because harassment), and when that failed to stop the meetup, Anti-GGers sending multiple bomb threats to the event. Think back to Quinn being able to basically get all discussion of her across multiple websites completely removed, solely upon her say-so.

The Normies never were going to take GG seriously on their own, still don't for the most part, and... Honestly that's kind of for the best.

Why GG started to win over the mainstreamers, by the way, was tripartite: One was that they tended to have hilarious, incandescent meltdowns over the stupidest shit and then would double down on the crazy if they called out. Second was that they tended to dogpile anyone who even so much as looked like they could give GG a voice, which led to the likes of Anne Rice, William Shatner, and Richard Dawkins all supporting GG after GG opponents tried to bully them into dropping support, in turn, leading to these individuals having their viewerbase become aware of how fucking crazy GG's opposition was. Finally, there was shit like Quinn and Anita going before the UN and screaming about how we needed to censor the internet to protect their feelings, which was simply too big for most to ignore.

G was effectively the first time a consumer base applied a punitive economic cost to an industry for bowing to the SJW oppression pimps. Prior to GG the only other real example of this was the NRA. Up until the point of GG whenever the Progressive cause of the day knocked on a busi
The NRA is a lobbying group and lobbying groups do this shit all the time. Industries have had to defend themselves against toxic political correctness for at least my entire life. During gamergate consumers were defending themselves from industry crybullies. The only points they had were that some guys are creepy and people say mean things on xbox chat. This would be like the NRA declaring that guys who wear combat boots in street clothes only like guns because they're itching to murder people and it's time we as a community stopped ignoring it, had some dialog, and drafted a code of personal conduct for our members.

The video game industry has had to defend itself over and over again from both right and leftwing foes.... because it's full of nerdy pussies. You never hear about UAW guys who have called every office girl "sweetcakes" for their entire career unless they did a bunch of other shit too. Remember when congress got a bug up it's ass and started saying school football teaches violence and causes brain damage?
Me neither. I was surprised when the media actually got busted for what we all knew was going on.

Gamergate was successful because they did it for free.

Meanwhile, anti-activists tended to have their fame or money tree attacked and did not come out unscathed.

The gaming press today is not completely annihilated, but is still a financially hollowed out laughing stock that barely holds sway in the industry or the general public.

Beating a hashtag into a pulp through the lord’s year of 2018 won’t help their bottom line, either.

Who knows, maybe Gamergate will posthumously win without doing anything when the gaming press focuses on what makes them money over social activism and partisan politics. In order to pay the bills.

All this would remain true if you removed all references to "gamers" and "gaming". In this era of low-margin internet media, all press institutions naturally gravitate toward hiring just a few wild-eyed lunatics for starvation wages - a perfect breeding ground for gatekeeping cliques.

So not only did Jason say that Kotaku was merely one of the biggest targets (which it obviously was since the "Gamergate" subreddit is named for it and one of the Five Guys wrote for it), his claim is provably true since if you look at KIA right now one of their pinned threads is from 17 days ago and is a plan to "stick a fork in Kotaku" and destroy it.

That's the kind of autism I'd get behind to be honest, Kotaku are pure trash.

Gamergate doesn't exist, 99.99% of the world population has never heard about this and the 00.01% who heard thinks this is a stupid twatter hashtag like #MondayMotivation. So stop writing walls of text about something that not even happened, it's annoying. And Gawker got fucked by Hulk Hogan, absolutely nothing to do with these manchildren obsessed for sideboobs.

"But these whores need GG to remain relevant". Sorry, but what? Anita scammed some thousand of dollars, do you think this is being relevant? She was a nobody, is a nobody and always will be a nobody.

Yet she still goes to Universities and Libraries all across the country for her presentations about "online harassment".

Kotaku is trash and yet this shit is still autistic but regardless, let them proceed. We all need something to laugh at.

GooberGrape is autism but lol calm down. Real talk, much as some can complain about Anita or someone like her, the most that person will get in terms of today are just some white knights that'll take this shit as seriously as the sperg manchildren.

dude the mainstream press - never mind the far left stuff - brings up gamergate at least weekly, and it's been "over" for 4 years

it's ridiculous but these people with their dual MFAs in journalism and elitism will never, ever get over having their shit pushed in by a bunch of pleb gamers
Don't really know if mainstream press like ABC and NBC bring it up once a week. Now some other rag that needs clickbait money? You'd bet they would write some rag that at least makes some mention of GamerGate despite the fact all save for some small number of spergs will even care.

Yet she still goes to Universities and Libraries all across the country for her presentations about "online harassment".
Much as she could go to universities and the like, I think only a few hunderd will bother while all the other thousand are busy with college shit like exams, parties, and doing dumb shit.

Her Library appearances bring in less than 50 last I checked but they still pay top dollar for her. Not sure what her University talks bring in.
