It has been said in here before but since you asked, it should be said again.

Phil is seen as successful by children. He reinforces the fantasy that you can just play video games to earn a living. They have no concept of money or responsibility yet let alone how the world works. But here is an adult that thinks and acts just like they do and is just fine. Mommy and daddy don't know what they are talking about.

As for detractors, they have to work for a living. I'd venture some had the fantasy of the whole "video game tester" job themselves at one point. But like anyone else with childish asperations, they were forced to grow up. But here is Phil. Not only does he not have a grow up but he treats people like shit and has no respect for anybody, not even himself. And nothing he seems to do has any lasting consequences. All of this drives them up a fucking wall. "How comes I was forced to grow up and Phil didn't? Fuck this guy!"

Now throw these two pools of people together on the internet around this one fat, balding, self centered, pathetic excuse of a ma...er, human and you have this black hole of autism that you see here today.

I really hate to say this, but by all measure he IS successful. He makes a living wage, even more so. It's his mismanagement that is the core issue. I see constant posts about how much tips and monthly income he receives and despite all the digging into his finances and conjecture, he is solely responsible to the supposed hardship he claims.

I don't think it is so much that older individuals are necessarily jealous, but rather on some level of envious. He shouldn't be making this amount of money, but he is. It isn't about about "growing up" but rather an injustice that's built in to capitalism. DSP is doing bare minimum, but because he found a "loophole" in the system, abuses it, and was one of the first let's players, people feel he is causing harm to others who deserve that praise, those who deserve that recognition. But because Phil exists, they receive less and this doesn't compute. If it weren't for a few people throwing tons of money, the market would have ousted him long ago.

He also highlights a huge problem with creators on youtube. There is no exit plan for retirement for "making it", The sad reality is that there is no retirement plan, there is no "set for life" and for DSP to actually prove a person can get rich by doing nothing actually infuriates those that work hard for every penny they save. I don't defend the troll's actions, but quite a few people give them "passes" because they feel it is justified.

The way I look at it is that if your living costs (bills, mortgages, vacations, little luxuries in life) outweigh your income then that's not successful. Phil absolutely SHOULD be successful but is committed to a lifestyle he can no longer really afford and is doing little to rectify this.

The saddest part of this whole Swaggins thing is that the only thing that's changed by Phil modding him is that the number of bans shot up.

There was actually some channel growth during his not a police state phase between BSV and Swaggins.

Swaggins would have kept cheering either way, maybe even more than he does now because he wouldn't have being a mod as a source of attention.

Phil really shot himself in the foot being blinded by money. You don't need to give the paypigs keys to the chat when they'll send money attention whoring just fine on their own.

Me too. It's the jokester who completely sucked the joy out of them. I've never seen someone literally beg for people to ACKnowledge their humor. Maybe that's how some people feel. I personally got into this whole DSP thing, and I think there are others who might feel the same way... Not because of anything revolving around video games, but because of his lying, playing victim, treating people (even the dead) like shit, not having any respect for anyone, etc. For all intents and purposes Phil, to me, is a horrible person. It's just that it seems less so because he does this shit online instead of in the real world. But I see no disconnect here due to the fact Phil claims he's always being real and honest, so by his own admission he's saying he is as shitty as the detractors paint him to be. So there are people who just want to see karma and all the consequences of his actions finally bite him on the ass after every single shitty thing he's ever done. Since it really is infuriating to see him constantly "get away with it."

But that's just my opinion. I've never bought into the whole "U JUST JEALOUS" shit efamous people throw around. As far as I'm concerned if all Phil was; was just some shitty video game player retsupurae made fun of I as well as others would have moved on after a week. It was Phil the person that caused a lot of people to stay and become the detractors we were for a few years.

Yeah, that's how I feel anymore at this point. To me Phil is that one character in media who is the douchebag that you want to see get their comeuppance by the end, but not only does that character not get their comeuppance they either get the glory or they get to be the only one that survived. With Phil this happens with every saga, and when the next one comes you always think "this time will be different," but it never is. Eventually you just get tired of Phil "winning" to the point that it's not even entertaining to watch anymore. It becomes formulaic; a boring, endless cycle where the outcome is absolutely predictable.

And that's sort of why I lost interest in DSP a few years back. Yeah I lurk around here and I still like to comment on the guy now and again, however, that's because like Naruto, Bleach, or Kingdom Hearts I've kept up with this shit for years and dammit I'm at least going to see how this story ends, but I don't really feel like taking a big part in it anymore.

I can certainly see that. I pin the "growing up" aspect of things to it because the situations and opportunities afforded to Phil never really required him to. And at the heart of the situation, that is what people have the biggest problem with. If he wasn't such a childish asshole, no one would care.

Why do you think Pewdiepie is well liked? Both do the same thing while appealing to the lowest common denominator and get paid WAY too much money for it. I am still personally sickened that PDP got a fucking book deal of all things. But he is liked because he is a nice(r) guy and treats people with respect. You know, something you learn to do as a kid if you don't want your ass beat by the other kids. That's the difference between them.

One of my favorite things was when Tevin explained it briefly saying how someone cheered and called him Dave, and he said he liked it because 'Phil' was a goofy name, but 'Dave' sounded cool. He says, 'Dave's a cool guy. Dave's the kind of guy that picks the worst team in Madden and then wins.' I died haha

I was actually kinda tripped out because I named my Twitter sock, after my main was banned, 'David Bennet', and next video Tevin added the Bennet as his last name lol. It was a funny coincidence because I don't thing I ever even tweeted anything with it, so it's not like anyone saw it.

I'm honestly okay with PewDiePie being the way he is. I never understood the hate for someone like him. In the case of Pewds it did seem like people hated him because he played to the lowest common denominator, but that's usually a really good option when you're an entertainer. Fuck knows AVGN and the Channel Awesome crew weren't marketing towards middle age men. In that case I can see the jealousy argument a little bit because there's that sense of "well if PDP can get rich acting wacky while playing hot wheels then I can too. I'm a BETTER entertainer than him." However, with DSP that was never the case from what I've seen.

I watched so mant tihydp of the horror games and he always laughs and not in a "haha you almost got me" but a "ak ak dis game is so stoooopid ak ak ak fucking jumpscares dood, not once have i seen him actually jump im surprize even just a little, for the longest time i thought it had something to do mentally, i mean im sure people who play horrors get caught at least once with a genuine jump, its natural its just how body reactions work and thats why horror movies impliment them because true horror has sort of died off, the jump scare gimmick is all we have left in both gaming and movies, so why dont it work on phil?.

This is typical, 100% Dave shenanigans and, probably at the core of ALL of the many bad practices he has that fuck him, this is the biggest one of all: seeing some way to potentially make a spike in quick, short-term income, while giving zero thought to a long-range plan that leads to growth and sustenance.

He probably has close to a half dozen major decisions he's made in the last 2-3 years regarding his business partnerships, his platform, his 'style', etc that have been made in an entirely rash manner (MAJOR changes!!) because he was chasing instant money to pay for some immediate crisis instead of long-term stability. His entire 'business' plan for years now has been to see blood squirting out over and over and he just keeps putting band aids, never taking a second to take a breath for a minute and look to see if it might be coming from the inside and if he needs to consider surgery. That's what his completely irresponsible spending has done. It's put him in a constant immediate react mode.
