The whole concept of redesigning cartoon or anime characters to be more 'realistic' can be done well, but more often than not it isn't. The main problem with this is because cartoon characters are exaggerations of realism. And when they take back the exaggeration, it just looks... boring.
We certainly favor that exaggeration/abstraction in art simply for that appeal. Realism just kinda sucks the life out of a work, and make it quite stuffy.

at first I thought the 1st pose depicts her as contortionist but apparently it's a severe case of melting candle body

and holyshit they sure love to draw melting human

These redraws make them all look bland and lame, even the red hair girl ins't red haired anymore why would do that? And the other one is wearing a NASA shirt, wtf she is the music girl wtf???

Tp the SJW You must aspire towards academic intellect, much like wearing clothing with inflames mens passions all other persuits are shameful in the eyes of gaia.

I linked that before, but Winx Club character designer is really talented and good in fun stylization, animation in early seasons wasn't the best (it started as niche Italian cartoon so the didn't have lot of money) and didn't give the justice to designs. And anatomy was actually well thought out (see naked Stella).
Winx actually have very distinct and orginal art direction.

BTW, as chubby kid I never mind how slim Winx girls were. Same about clothes, I will never wear something so skimpy, but it's a cartoon. Winx live in magic futuristic world where clothes are bright, fairies wore glittter disco outfits and their boyfriends wear crop tops.

Okay, if I can give the artist some credit, they tried to give a variety of body types to the girls. I will admit that even when I was younger ( you know, the audience that's being targeted to here) I found it odd that all of the girls for being teenagers all from different places had the same body type.
They still have same bodies on this redraw, only less stylized.

I'm the only one who never was bothered by same-body/same-face? More diverse designs are fun, but same-face isn't a BIG SIN like people recently are describing it. And this ctitisism resulted in tumblr same-face anyway.

Good fuck, just make these your original characters already. When they don't look anything remotely close to the characters you're doing "fanart" of, they're just OCs at that point. They could even make them fandom OCs if they want, just stop claiming they're an existing character when they have absolutely zero relation to them.

Why aren't these just OCs? If they were, they'd be fine. But if you're going to go out of your way to get rid of the character's appeal so much then what's the point? Make your own Vocaloid OC.

This just frustrates me to no end. Vocaloid's main appeal is that they're supposed to be pretty to look at. They're a software designed with a "caricature" so that a person can experiment with their own imagination. It's made to look like that so people can project their own image of how they interpret a vocaloid. Now, why isn't the design acceptable that the artist created? Because they remove ALL OF THAT APPEAL. They barely even look like the same character. What the hell?

It's not like you can't ever make a vocaloid in a different style. I'm not trying to be some visual purist. Here's some examples:

What Rin looks like by different artists:
Rin.jpg

Rin 2.png

Rin 3.jpg

All of those pictures in the spoiler tag are all done in different styles by different artist, but you want to know what they all keep? The appeal. You still know it's Rin because of the yellow hair and color palette. And even though each song has a different nature to them, it is clearly an interpretation of Rin, not ignoring it completely.

Hell, here's some Mayu:

Mayu 2.png

Mayu's whole entire design is based off fashion. Specifically, Lolita fashion. A very popular trend in Japan. How does this artist replicate that in her redesign above? She does not. She doesn't even look like her.

I know some people are like "Vocaloid can be interpreted however you want!" And yeah, when it comes to stories in the songs, that's entirely true. But design? No. They still have the main qualities to distinguish them. This artist is merely projecting and it really shows.

Are the Winx club characters teenagers? The amount of times he draws these characters in a veeery sexual manner is pretty skeevy if so imo. You're right that the artstyle is nice though, these are very well done concept sketches.

I thought Musa (the music fairy) looked Asian and was perky so why doesn't this design reflect that? Also, she's from another planet, so why would she wear a NASA shirt?

After seeing all these recent hypocritically offensive and stereotypical redesigns, mostly the Winx Club one, I've found a perfect example of a magnificent redesign that is based on ethnical accuracy, which the artists in this thread are obviously failing at.

The redesign, according to the artist, was mostly on making the facial features more to Josie's ethnicity. Notice how the redesign made her features more Filipino, but there is no way you can't tell it's still Josie. The artist redesigned her clothes, but still had the key signature parts, specifically her headband bow, amount of yellow and gold on her, and the bright colors that contrast with Josie's tanned skin. Speaking of skin, notice how Josie is still the same color. Almost all politically "correct" redesigns automatically fail because they make the skin 5x darker than it needs to be. Notice how that energetic, bubbly face is still there.

I would also like to point out her hair. Notice how its completely different, but it fits her, both due to her ethnical background and overall outfit style. Most artists would put a ridiculous multi dyed half-shaven hairstyle. Many Tumblr artists fail to redesign according to the color scheme, and, for Josie, what is literally attached to her (Her hair, skin, eye color, etc) is intentionally tropical and tanned so the physical stuff, her clothes, stand out more. There's a reason why darker, more tropical characters tend to have more expanded, bright and flowy clothes. Do people think that, for example, Moana and Pocahontas, would stand out with dressing like the other princesses as much? Tiana is a black princess, but her dress is just like the other princesses of Disney, thus making her fit in more than Moana and Pocahontas, who wear accurate clothes of their ethnical background, but aren't stereotypical, out dated, or exaggerative.

Her stance is still the same, without the typical "lmao woke" or "lmao yuuuus" forceness around it. Even without the long sleeves, the redesign's sleeves are flowy, wide, and have a tropical feel to it. Most Tumblr artists would've covered her whole stomach and arms, add a bulge, and add pants that lead to stretch marks. The facial structure in the redesign has less of an anime feel, but it is still corresponding with the Tekken 3D model style, just with an added ethnical style.

This is the difference between a SJW redesign, and a artist redesign; the actual intention. SJW artists change everything into a hypocritical stereotype, thus ruining the signature designs of the franchise the character is coming from, while normal artists redesign only what they believe needs work, and make sure that the signature key traits on the characters are still there.

Edit: The artist is actually Filipino, and redesigned Josie into typical, MODERN clothes that the Filipinos would wear on a summer day. Most Tumblr artists redesign characters into clothes either outdated in their culture, only used for traditional events, stereotypical, or clothes an American edgy teen hipster would wear, because they know nothing of the actual culture that isn't in anime or a stereotype, thus showing another difference between Tumblr's SJW and normal artists' redesigns.

i kinda do get irked by same face but if it's good, it's good. though personally i prefer making my character's distinct.
I'm sure it comes down to economy of drawing the way the 'same face' is applied to save on animating each individual girl.

idk but i did see an article saying it shows workplace misogny, and i was like "its just a show about a red panda who hates her job and sings death metal it ain't that deep"
I guess some people like to see what they want out of things. It never makes sense when such programs don't featuring it on the surface, or below it.

Honestly, I'm not sure how to feel about this;
Someone likes their men with small torsos, long limbs and oblonged heads (just be grateful the tiny junk is cover).
