Queer youth just do not know how good they have it these days. Crying about how oppressed they are, how they're so violated. There's people who've lived with HIV for longer than many of these idiots have even been alive.
Same-sex marriage is currently legal in 25 countries, with more soon on the way, and still more countries at the very least recognizing those unions. 18 countries in some way recognize and protect transgender people's rights. 12 countries in some way recognize a "third" or "non-binary" gender. All of this in less than 20 years. Back in the 80's people were still just trying to be recognized and respected as gay at all, no one was even really thinking of marriage rights.
Over 20 years ago Ellen DeGeneres was groundbreaking just for coming out, both personally and as a sitcom character. And now you can't throw a cop-hating brick into the crowd scene of most shows without hitting 3 lesbians and a bisexual. Not to mention that currently one of the most popular reality TV programs is about drag queens - which in its own progression now accepts out trans women - and anyone from your straight-as-a-2x4 husband to your grandma in hospice is watching and yaaas'ing it.
It's 2018 and Pride Month
kind of is every month. Being queer has never been so widely accepted and celebrated as it is right now. Except queer people don't seem to be celebrating these things, they still find the tiniest things to complain about. All this "no cops at pride" talk because of Stonewall, because Pride wouldn't exist without that incident - and yet they don't stop to think about all the strides that have been made since?
But yeah okay I guess, go off on how violated you are when someone called you "Miss" because they somehow didn't know you're a demifluid-astroboy who goes by yi/yim/yir except on weekends or when it's raining. Go off on how parents shouldn't stop their children from taking drugs or getting surgeries that affect kids for the rest of their lives, especially if post-puberty they might change their minds about wanting their tits or dicks gone. Go off on how discriminatory a piece of media is because it doesn't include at least one of every romantic AND sexual AND gender identity food group. Go off on gatekeeping your own in a community that for decades, and
even now, has to fight to even talk about these kinds of things without facing legal/occupational/physical repercussion.
