Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

It's been my theory for a bit that a few of the mods/admins have something on him to keep him from trying to fix anything in addition to his ineptness at running the site. Just look at how fast he backed down on the few occasions he did try to fix shit when the mods started bitching.

It's ZDR and it's not a conspiracy theory. Months ago Lowtax said something that pissed ZDR off and he used his killswitch to put the forum offline for days as well as breaking half the databases.

Oh I remember it was when he made fun of shmorky's ex I think? I just remember all of ZDR's post magically disappeared and the forums got broke for a good bit after. I'm just thinking there is more to it than that even.

If you mention it though a bunch of people will call you crazy.

Let me take the opportunity to explain a family member's first reaction to learning a loved one has a leukemia diagnosis. First, you look online and call your sister/father/mother/brother back and ask which of the four types they have again, because you were freaking out so bad you can't remember little details like that. Once you know the type of blood cancer they are dealing with, you look up the five year survivability rate and drink yourself into despair.

His mum has had leukemia for years and he's talked about it in the past. If they're looking to "experimental" treatments then I assume conventional treatment is no longer keeping it under control.

What's not making sense, though, is the cost. Conventional treatment costs much more than that and cutting edge treatments which are recently approved cost even more.

That said, a rare as rocking horse shit blood cancer which only has a handful of new cases a year is always going to be under active research and have some kind of trial available. It's the kind of thing where you seek out the current world expert because they're going to want to add to the body of knowledge on the disease and your best hope lies with those doing research at the cutting edge.

fwiw, Google says Lowtax's mum is 68. I have no idea what US Medicare will pay for in terms of cancer treatment and how that might play into this situation.

I vaguely remembered Lowtax mentioning this trial before. The tweets aren't available because they were made on his suspended account, but he also mentioned it on the forums in early December last year.

Yup. I have some :powerlevel: experience with hospitals billing shit and I've never heard of an out-of-pocket clinical trial. Unless you count airfare, I've never heard of worse than free.
But who knows, I know I haven't seen everything.

(You are also making the assumption Momtax is retired and not still working to try to make sure her grandkids & manchild don't end up on the street)

Consider the record corrected.

If his point is anything other than "American health care costs suck even for those with insurance", I have no idea why he's posting about it in GBS.

There are large cancer forums which cover every type of cancer and every type of treatment, and they're a wealth of information. He could find out a heap about his mum's cancer and current research on those (including why she's looking at $25,000 per year for a "clinical trial"). The Goon Doctor has a cancer thread, but I guess that doesn't get enough traffic for Lowtax's liking.

What fuck is wrong with you? Suggesting that Low-T use resources on the forum he owns and runs to try to get help? That's a terrible idea. Nope, the much better plan is to vascilate between ebegging and wacky-zany ironiposting before trying to ban-evade on that twitter account that you're only using to promote SA threads, and definitely are not to use it to continue to talk shit about public figures. You know, stay the course.

Also remember his parents may or may not be well to do, peoples life styles did to move to match their incomes. also it might be a ozma situation where medical costs eat up his future money aka inheritance

Also I call bull shit I bet he saw a number somewhere and just decided to go with it.

Pretty much, at the end of the day we want to be known for something and for him it's volunteering at SA. It's not much but it probably helps make his life feel a little more meaningful.

Whatever keeps the dude from committing suicide, I guess...

So let me get this straight: the dwindling userbase, who already paid to upgrade the forums and to Lowtax directly to get a wacky badge of honor, are supposed to save the forums (still), save his life, and now save his mother's life? Fucking learn to read the room dude. It ain't happening.

Looking forward to his next personal catastrophe in a few months with the forums still up and running even though it costs 10 million dollars per month to host. This is all bullshit and I guarantee his mom isn't as sick as he makes it seem.

There's not really any reason to disbelieve him about his mum's health (but also no need to believe that his parents can't afford at least a few years of treatment), but it's kind of curious that he's not mentioning the cost of Ashli's ongoing healthcare given that he said she has lupus a while back.

There is a reason to disbelieve him because he's been an internet carnie for 20 years.

I like that Lowtax is boxed into a corner. Even if bandwith costs do consume a third of what comes in each month, he still needs that other two thirds so he can't just shut down the forums.

I wonder how long it will be before SA goes to a monthly subscription model instead of a monthly begging model.
