More Than 2,300 Suspected Online Child Sex Offenders Arrested During Operation “Broken Heart”

The Department of Justice today announced the arrest of more than 2,300 suspected online child sex offenders during a three-month, nationwide, operation conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces. The task forces identified 195 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse, and 383 children who suffered recent, ongoing, or historical sexual abuse or production of child pornography.

The 61 ICAC task forces, located in all 50 states and comprised of more than 4,500 federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, led the coordinated operation known as “Broken Heart” during the months of March, April, and May 2018. During the course of the operation, the task forces investigated more than 25,200 complaints of technology-facilitated crimes against children and delivered more than 3,700 presentations on Internet safety to over 390,000 youth and adults.

"No child should ever have to endure sexual abuse," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said. "And yet, in recent years, certain forms of modern technology have facilitated the spread of child pornography and created greater incentives for its production. We at the Department of Justice are determined to strike back against these repugnant crimes. It is shocking and very sad that in this one operation, we have arrested more than 2,300 alleged child predators and investigated some 25,200 sexual abuse complaints. Any would-be criminal should be warned: this Department will remain relentless in hunting down those who victimize our children."

The operation targeted suspects who: (1) produce, distribute, receive and possess child pornography; (2) engage in online enticement of children for sexual purposes; (3) engage in the sex trafficking of children; and (4) travel across state lines or to foreign countries and sexually abuse children.

The ICAC Program is funded through the Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). In 1998, OJJDP launched the ICAC Task Force Program to help federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative responses to offenders who use the Internet, online communication systems or computer technology to exploit children. To date, ICAC Task Forces have reviewed more than 775,000 complaints of child exploitation, which resulted in the arrest of more than 83,000 individuals. In addition, since the ICAC program's inception, more than 629,400 law enforcement officers, prosecutors and other professionals have been trained on techniques to investigate and prosecute ICAC-related cases.
Full DOJ Statement

Man, that list of child sex offender busts is really starting to expand now. I've actually lost track of the total, but we're well up into the thousands. I am increasingly baffled as to how the media's been paying so little attention to all of these operations and arrests, because there's easily dozens of these arrests on a smaller scale every single month, and Broken Heart has been underway for months now. I would absolutely love to link to a regular news article about this, but even though this story and the statement from the DOJ have been out for an entire day, literally none of them are writing about it. It's only getting attention at local levels, if even.

You'd think this kind of stuff would get more national attention, but apparently fucking not!

It's always nice to hear some good news every once in a while.
Oh there's fantastic news almost every other day if you go rummaging around for it, it's just that almost none of it actually makes the cut and hits the airwaves or the major media outlets. This is the biggest one I've seen them ignore so far, though. I haven't seen any articles about Broken Heart on CNN, ̶F̶O̶X̶, MSNBC, PBS, ABC, just... No one. It's fucking weird.

I'm just some idiot on a shitposting forum, why am I the only one here?

Edit: Nevermind, found one on FOX, it was just sorted by date and not relevance, for some reason.

It feels set up to me tbh. People only want to get their panties in a twist over Trump or score 'feels' points with themselves when they see something tragic. News like this should be on major outlets more — to stop the cycle of hatred and show news that make people stop and think, " Huh. The world isn't so bad. "

I'm happy that this kind of news is being put out in the first place, though 2.3k feels really .... small to me? It feels like they could have nabbed more, but I guess a couple thousand is better than nothing.

That's just this one operation. There's been loads of these exact, same kinds of operations underway for almost two years now and the numbers of arrests went up so high that I actually ended up losing track somewhere around 20,000. This is just the largest operation they conducted so far, stretched out over a three-month span. I expected the media outlets to at least hook into this one because of the size of it, but so far they haven't made a fucking peep and I'm getting inordinately angry about it.

The world ain't that bad and it's actually getting better by leaps and bounds, but the media's so Hell-bent on making everyone paranoid and terrified and hopeless that they refuse to ever talk about anything uplifting. They have a goddamned responsibility when it comes to keeping the public informed, because that's how you keep them from getting scared and paranoid, and they're outright refusing to acknowledge that responsibility and it's pissing me the fuck off

Fearmongering is a powerful tactic. The more people are in fear, the more willing they are to do insane things.
And that insanity, sadly, is what ends up making the news. Not the improvements, the detriments.

This is wonderful news! At first I was worried because of the timing, which made me think that the reason Clinton has the DNC really was child sexual abuse. But to hear that this is a string of many makes it even better.

This is a wonderful thing, and I wish I could send stuff to the office of these people without it getting thrown out. Today is a good day. And we haven't even gotten the OIG report on the emails yet!

This is good news that should be covered. Most of the time, you see nothing but negative coverage, making you question whether things are getting worse in the world. You catch news like this, and it shows that that’s not the case — it’s just the news media wanting to keep people worried and paranoid. It’s always about Granald Drumpf and how the evil Russians are playing puppeteer.

As for those sex offenders, chop off their dicks and give them the best welcoming party in prison. I’m sure inmates would love to get their hands on sick people like the ones caught. I hope they continue operations like this.

I think we all know the reason why this doesn't get aired. The left and the media don't wanna give trump any Quarter. Any sign of weakness and their whole narrative falls like a house of cards. With the NK talks, its starting in earnest.

But if Obama did this, they'd probably sing the praises of this to the rafters.
