Alright, let's not conflate the two here, folks.
Some geniuses are crazy, yes.
Chloe is crazy. This doesn't make her brilliant.
Her issue is that on top of being "I raped a goat" insane, she's also profoundly lazy. Being a lazy underachiever is an established issue with every member of the Rat King, but that laziness combined with her already decreased capacity means that she is capable of very, very little.
Chloe is not some tragic misunderstood genius marred by the mental illness that often accompanies genius. Chloe is your standard listless dropout, just with less impulse control and a propensity for self harm.
She's managed to shit out a half-finished sorta-game with some pretentious artsy bullshit attached. This hardly makes her Picasso.

On the rare occasion she puts her mind to it she's actually capable of accomplishing something, probably more than you've ever accomplished. Most of her games are half-assed but when she put genuine effort into something she creates beautiful things.
I'd like to see you create something half as good as Homestuck.

I'd honestly say that Homestuck is less of an accomplishment than simply living a healthy, productive life. Chloe loses this one.

I have a steady job, I pay my bills, I have friends and family that I treat well, I'm creatively fulfilled, I take showers. You know, the usual, basic shit that is beyond Chloe.

Homestuck is an 8000 page single panel webcomic about in-jokes and a lot of characters doing nothing for weeks at a time. Chloe Sagal made Homesick, a bare bones point and click adventure game that is very similar to the 3 million other indie point and clicks on steam. It's hardly reinventing the wheel.
And it's not a rare occasion, it's a single occassion. She has made a single thing with her entire life, and apparently, that's your bar for being a misunderstood and tragic auteur genius.
As long as we're comparing accomplishments, gee man, I dunno. Im employed, live indoors, own both my home and my car, and don't sit in a wheelchair sobbing about imaginary pain for days at a time. I'd say I accomplish more in a week than the sum total of her life.
But sure, she made a single point and click before fucking off into a depression hole forever. Let me just go fetch the bubbly.

According to a friend of mine actively keeping tabs on her, discussion from her acquaintances suggests Chloe Sagal has died.

Let's have an adult moment for just a sec here fam:
This was never a matter of if, it was when. Chloe has been on borrowed time for fucking years. She was a deeply disturbed, deeply unwell human being with very few options and minimal ability.
I will say of all the cows this could've happened to, I take no joy in it. She hasn't been particularly funny in a long time, mostly just grim and kind of depressing.

Chloe had serious psychiatric problems and constantly pushed away both friends and family who tried to help her. While the things she did were both personally and morally abhorrent, she falls into a category of someone who was legitimately unwell and needed far more care and support than I think many realized, made more tragic by the fact that Chloe was never going to seek that herself. She was someone who got used, repeatedly, by various power groups tied to the rat king, and it fed into her own victimization and paranoia in the worst possible way.
While there's a ton of things she absolutely deserved to get flak over, and a ton of shit she did that deserved ridicule, most Kiwis here acknowledge that her problems were far beyond the scope of most cows. Many cows are fun to laugh at, but Chloe was usually more tragic than amusing. By this time last year, Sagal had burned almost every bridge I'm aware of. Even people who legitimately cared about her got pushed aside and/or abandoned by her for slights both real and imagined. For a long time, she's been utterly and completely alone, solely through her own actions, and ultimately, there was no way out of that. Hell, there's an argument whether or not she had any ability to get out of that by that point.
What's really fucking aggravating about this is that while Chloe was many things, she was one of the few Rat King cows we covered who could actually get shit done when she wanted to. She was a legitimately skilled game designer and if she had managed to vanquish her personal demons better, she'd likely have had a very bright career in that regard. The rub, of course, is that Chloe never had any intention to try.
If this turns out to be legitimate, Kiwis, let Chloe Sagal's lesson to the world be this: Victimhood can devastate the capabilities of even the most competent and intelligent person, but victimhood paired with psychological illness can completely destroy lives. In Chloe's case it became a horrifying self-fulfilling prophecy, destroying her relationships, undermining her career, and leaving her vulnerable to being manipulated by shitheads.
