Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

Smells like a database thing to me. I wonder if Lowtax crazy-gluing new features from standard vbulletin onto the modified Codebase has anything to do with this. I'll never get why these idiots do changes to the live forums. You can rent some shared hosting to test this shit for like nine bucks a month. Or just do it on your own PC.

If the fix will take weeks like last time this will hurt pretty badly I think. I'd trust him to maybe have backups of the database, but not of the code he modified. He's that kind of stupid.

Seems it was fixed. Ah well.

Oh man, that is a silly place. That said I really enjoy the star citizer thread over there.

Same, that was literally the last thread I went to SA to read.

Ironically, as much as a hugbox as SA is, the Star Citizen thread was one of the few places on the Internet where you could criticize Star Citizen without people who have invested $10,000 in the game playing Daddy Defense Force about Chris Roberts.

Didn't they run off dsmart too in the end? I'm pretty sure that thread was ruined somehow too. Some goons were heavily invested in Star Citizen, that I remember.

Yeah they perma'd him from what I remember claiming he was doxing people. Don't know the actual truth on that but I remember seeing bits of it in QQCS.

Derek Smart was being Derek Smart, which has basically been a valid ban reason on the Internet since the late 90s.

The doxing wasn't that bad honestly, it was more people just sick of Derek being Derek.

Yeah, he got away with a couple previous dox but he was becoming more unhinged, basically going after people who got more attention than him. Finally he doxed another random dude out of the blue and they were pretty sick of his shit by then. I mean it is against the rules of the forum, it's not like they made it up to get rid of him.

It was funny being introduced to Derek Smart through that whole fiasco. I imagine having a first impression of him as the reasonable party is a very rare thing, but I soon saw what a jackass he was. Although I always enjoy seeing weaponized jackass go up against other jackasses.

In a sense, that thread was the proto-cow for me. A whole community of people who were under siege from all sides from imaginary enemies, both incredibly stupid and pathetic, and immensely powerful and dangerous at the same time. You know, just like how the left views trump, or how many view gamergate.

I remember 10+ years ago the moderation kinda worked i liked a few rules like no posting chat logs or aim speak of course later mods would be all "Learn to use the shift key faggot "

But fuck they really hated the shmorky thread but also cant admitt to kiwifarms doxxing people

Maybe when i wanna get banned and leave that place i ll post asking about the farms doxxing troons etc.

Mandy? Lol, no.

ElfPr0n was underage when he flew her out to fuck him.

And don't forget the time back when LowT lived in Seattle and went to a goon meet and got caught sucking on Fawnette's toes while she was passed out. I'm pretty sure unconsensual toe suckin' would be considered sexual assault in some jurisdictions!

And speaking of Derek Smart, here's an example of Lowtax actually being funny, as hard as it might be to believe.

To this day, Derek Smart's Desktop Commander remains one of my favorite things from the SA of old. It's up there with Steal of the Century and Cliff Yablonski to me.

:offtopic: but I remember Derek from back in the day, he'd have a thread on here now but in quite a few ways he calmed down. He was the crazy indie developer before that whole scene really existed about end of the 90s, early 00s. Battlecruiser 3000AD. What a non-game. It came with a huge manual that was several hundred pages long and was basically just rambling about non-existant technical terms and equally non-existant gameplay mechanics. When people posted bugs on his 3000AD forums he'd go nuts at them and always tell them they'd "play the game wrong" and "RTFM". Game was also a bugfest and super unfinished. In quite a few ways it was just like Star Citizen. Equally as glued together by promises and a circle of rabid fanboys. I think he's mostly angry that he didn't get stinking rich with making a non-game like Chris Roberts did. Twenty years ago (writing that out felt weird, can't believe it's so long ago) he was before his time and we didn't have the "lying steam indie game developer that promises the sky" archetype just yet.

He was also very active on usenet and permanently involved in flame wars and also a notorious liar, from owning a mars rock from NASA to winning video game awards from companies he made himself to the infamous "Kevin tribe" (an African tribe he made up he claimed he was related to) and lying about having a PhD and making outlandish claims about BC3000AD, (keyword: learning neural net AI) dude was a compulsive and pathological liar. Dude would totally be a lolcow now but as hard as it is to believe, he calmed down a lot. I think he had rich parents or some such.

Again, :offtopic: but his name just took me down memory lane and this thread isn't moving fast and maybe some people are not as familiar with dsmart.

The most epic Derek Smart moment I ever witnessed live was when he posted a link to a chat log or forum screenshot, and was making fun of the person for using a , instead of a . to indicate the decimal point. Now most people know that's standard in some parts of the world, but not in the US.

After he got laughed at for that, he doubled down. Then doubled down again. It just got more and more ridiculous, he never did admit he was wrong but many good laughs were had at his expense. It's somewhere in that giant star citizen thread, I'm far too lazy to find it and link to it.

SAs only chance to survive these days would be if it was the kind of happening place where some of the internets' most interesting shit happens, something you wouldn't be able to find in a place like reddit which admittedly can be a bit pedestrian sometimes. There's certainly a market for such a place now that even the -chans fail to be interesting occasionally sometimes.

Sadly it's just inhabited by sadbrains IT janitors who are tiptoeing around communist sjw trannies and nothing about that is interesting for anyone. It's not even worth the tenner. We also live in an age where people with access to the internet often don't know how any of it works and I bet most of them are less than excited to give their credit card deeds to some weird site nobody has ever heard about. Thing is just behind the curve a whole lot, adding rich text editing to posts and a button to scroll quickly up the page won't change that. It can't be reformed at this point, might as well fall in line with your customer base and hope for patreon bux.

Lowtax does know that, he did try to break into other things after all but well he is Lowtax and had lowtaxian success. Dude would be white trash if it wasn't for the money. Not really much more to say about it.
I’m late to respond to this but the “happening place” is now like 19 parts Twitter and 1 part Reddit, which accounts for lowT’s intense love-hate relationship with either site.

It also doesnt help that the troon snow flake brigade has a "fun rule" or to be more clean they fall over themselves to virtue signal
