It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Owen Jones is moaning about democracy again

It’s time for the European Union to kick Hungary out. There it is, a member state, casually flouting basic democratic norms and human rights, swiftly evolving into an authoritarian nightmare, with absolutely no meaningful consequences.

Consider the latest act in Hungary’s slide towards what its prime minister Viktor Orbán boasts is an “illiberal democracy”. The country’s parliament has not just passed a law making claims for asylum almost impossible: the very act of helping migrants and refugees has been criminalised. Furthermore, a 25% tax has been slapped on funding for NGOs that “support immigration”: in practice, that means having anything positive to say about immigration.

In the same week, the musical Billy Elliot was cancelled in Budapest after a vicious homophobic campaign by the pro-government press, including the claim in one government-linked newspaper that it could “transform Hungarian boys into homosexuals”.

In its war on democracy, the Orbán government has launched a bitter campaign against George Soros that is littered with antisemitic tropes. His Open Society Foundations network is leaving Budapest because of what it calls “an increasingly repressive political and legal environment”. Another target of the government is Budapest’s Central European University, seen as a focal point for anti-Orbán sentiment, which says legal and political pressure may drive it out of the country. The state media promotes pro-government propaganda and smears the opposition; pro-government media is buying up independent publications; media outlets that are opposed to or critical of Orbán are under growing pressure.

And yet – as Michael Ignatieff, president of the Central European University – puts it, this is happening with the “collusion and compliance” of the EU. Orbán’s Fidesz party remains a member of the European People’s party – the grouping of the EU’s centre-right parties – which, when it met in Warsaw earlier this month, failed to even reprimand Hungary. The EPP leader, Manfred Weber – an ally of Angela Merkel – has even leapt to Orbán’s defence.

At the very least, article 7 of the Lisbon treaty – which demands “all EU countries respect the values of the EU” – should be activated, with the suspension of Hungary’s voting rights and other sanctions. This demand has already been made by the European parliament’s civil liberties committee, which lists 12 breaches ranging from the weakening of the judiciary to restrictions on free speech.

But Hungary, along with increasingly authoritarian Poland, is making an utter mockery of the EU’s stated commitment to democracy and human rights. In 2016 Luxembourg’s foreign minister called for Hungary to be expelled from the EU because of its treatment of refugees. He was right. Yes, the EU is buffeted by multiple crises, from Brexit to the assumption of power of a Eurosceptic Italian government. But its acceptance of its own member states succumbing to authoritarianism may prove its greatest existential threat of all.

communist-rebels_2018-06-22_10-25-31.jpg

MANILA, Philippines — The International Association of Democratic Lawyers of Friday called on the Philippine government to hold the next round of peace talks abroad instead in the country as demanded by Malacañang.

In a resolution, members of the governing bureau of IADL urged the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines to abide by their agreements and resume the peace negotiations in a foreign neutral venue.

The group said the demand of the government to hold the peace talks in Manila is “a position divergent from a binding agreement between the parties that it be held in a foreign neutral venue.”

“Mainly for security reasons, history and universal practice teach us that most, if not all, peace negotiations between two warring parties were generally held in a foreign neutral venue outside the countries of territories where their respective armed forces are,” it explained.

The Kingdom of Norway has been a third-party facilitator between the communist rebels and the Philippine government. In February, Norway’s special envoy to the peace process reiterated the European country’s commitment to the talks.

But Palace insisted that there is no need to go abroad to talk peace with fellow Filipinos, saying President Rodrigo Duterte has already guaranteed the safety of rebel negotiators and consultants.

Should the Philippines become the next venue of the talks, there will be no need for a third-party facilitator anymore although help from other countries will be welcomed, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

Duterte, in several occasions, asked Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Maria Sison to come home and even offered to shoulder all of his former professor’s expenses.

The government on Thursday suspended all backchannel talks with the communist movement for three months pending the review of all signed agreements. Last week, it was announced that the supposed resumption of talks would not push through.

Church in Mexico releases security protocols to prevent crime

- As increased levels of violence in Mexico continue, the Mexican Bishops Conference has published a protocol guide to help prevent crimes against priests, religious and faithful in the country.

The protocols are not intended to hinder “the pastoral activity of bishops, nuns and lay people, but to [help them] do it in the safest possible way,” said Bishop Alfonso Miranda Guardiola, secretary general of the Mexican Bishops’ Conference.

The bishop spoke at a June 19 press conference unveiling the document, “Basic Church Security Protocols: Personnel and Religious Sites.”

The document offers safety processes in different situations, such as pastoral visits and Masses in outlying areas. It includes an inventory form for church-related equipment and items of value.

Advice includes details about how to handle travel, making a withdrawal from an ATM, and what to do if you are kidnapped, robbed, threatened, or extorted.

When traveling to an unfamiliar area, the document recommends doing a trial run to learn the way, and researching the safest times to go out.

Security measures are also proposed for churches, houses of religious communities and other sites.

Violence in Mexico, mainly organized crime, has intensified in recent years. It is estimated that 2017 was the most violent year in recent decades, with more than 25,000 homicides.

According to the Catholic Multimedia Center, 24 priests have been killed in the last six years, including four so far in 2018.

Bishop Miranda said that “the security protocols respond to what has happened in the last two, three years, where there have been more and more murders, not just of priests but also journalists, police officers, soldiers and also candidates…for public office.”

“If this protocol serves to prevents one more death, it will have been a success,” he said.

Fr. Rogelio Narváez Martinez, the executive secretary of the Bishops' Committee on Social Ministry and director of Mexican Caritas, said that it is not only the deaths of priests and religious that worry the Church.

“What is concerning to us is the death of any Mexican, the death of any person, of someone who's at the mall, or going to the church, who's in a plaza, going in a car, or going with his family.”

“Every death is a wound upon our nation,” he said.

Archbishop Carlos Garfias Merlos of Morelia, who heads up the bishops' Working Group on Justice, Peace and Reconciliation, said that while the protocols are designed to respond to violence, they can also be helpful in other emergency situations, such as natural disasters.

“We know there are some places in Mexico every year that due to natural phenomena such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tremors we find ourselves in emergency situations,” he said

Bishop Miranda said that there are no plans for “police or soldiers in the churches.”

He also clarified that “the protocols are proposals” and “not a law we're putting on the Church.”

“These are measures suggested to the priests, bishops, etc. And also according to the capacity of every parish. Where it can be done, it is recommended that alarm systems be put in place. Where it's not possible, at least there should be minimum security measures.”

In a June 19 statement, Fr. Omar Sotelo, director of the Catholic Multimedia Center, emphasized that the document published by the bishops “responds to the needs of what's happening in our country.”

“It's a security plan, a protocol which one way or another helps prevention,” he said.

For Fr. Sotelo, the violence in Mexico “has become widespread, more sophisticated and has touched important sectors of society.”

The director of the Catholic Multimedia Center said the document also “calls to the attention of the authorities that they have not done their work effectively.”

According to Fr. Sotelo, “some authorities, not all of them, have been corrupted or have been overrun by” organized crime.

He noted that addressing the underlying issue of organized crime is “very complicated.”

“It's hard to change the mentality of thousands of people who unfortunately have become dehumanized and have resorted to organized crime to make their way in life. To transform this kind of a situation it going to take a lot of work.”

However, recalling the Gospel admonition to love one’s enemies, he said that “we have to make a way to reach these people's hearts.”

“Reaching out to these people is a process, an important element that we mustn't neglect,” he said.

Heather Locklear arrested. Again. She's really gone off the deep end. When we will find her suicided by hanging? She assaulted an officer and an EMT. Boy is she lucky she's a white lady.

Heather Locklear was arrested on Sunday night for battery against a police officer and emergency personnel, law enforcement officials told Fox News.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a 911 call at Locklear's home shortly after 11 p.m. PST. Locklear appeared "heavily intoxicated" and was "arguing with other subjects at the residence."

"The responding deputy believed it was necessary to separate her from the others," a spokesperson for the police department told Fox News. "In the process of trying to separate her, she battered the deputy...There was no injury to the deputy. That action caused her to get arrested."

Due to her "behavior and level of intoxication," police called an ambulance to check on Locklear, who is 56.

LOCKLEAR'S FRIENDS, FAMILY 'DESPERATELY' TRIED TO HELP ACTRESS BEFORE HOSPITALIZATION

Locklear then proceeded to allegedly kick an EMT, who was attempting to put her on a gurney, in the chest. She was then taken to the hospital to be examined before being taken to jail where she spent the night before posting $20,000 bail at 9:10 a.m. PST.

She is expected in court for a hearing on August 23.

A rep for Locklear did not return Fox News' request for comment.

Locklear's latest arrest comes just days after the actress was released following a three-day hold in a hospital psych ward.

The actress was hospitalized on June 17, after she threatened to kill herself and was held on a 5150 call, in which a person can be held for 72 hours against their will for evaluation and treatment.

The former "Melrose Place" actress was also arrested in February on charges of domestic violence and assault on three police officers. She checked herself into a treatment facility in March to help with her battle with addiction.

LOCKLEAR'S EX JACK WAGNER SAYS HE HOPES ACTRESS CAN 'TURN LIFE AROUND' AFTER HOSPITALIZATION

A decade ago, in 2008, Locklear had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, those charges were later dismissed and she was sentenced to three years of informal probation and ordered to pay a $700 fine.

Locklear is best known for appearing on "Dynasty" and "T.J. Hooker" in the 1980s and "Melrose Place" in the 1990s.

Didn't think it deserved a thread of its own, so here's the article. Protesters showed up at a show from Montreal's Jazz Festival and denounced it as cultural appropriation because it was "directed by a white man, featuring a white woman singing songs composed by black slaves."

Heather Locklear rushed to hospital after overdose.

http://www.tmz.com/2018/06/25/heather-locklear-ambulance-hospital-overdose-alcohol-mental-health/

7:10 PM PT -- A source close to the situation tells us Heather's condition is stable and she's getting the necessary treatment.

Heather Locklear is hospitalized again after cops got a call for someone overdosing at her home Monday afternoon ... just hours after she had bailed out of jail.

An ambulance transported Heather from her home to a hospital Monday afternoon. Cops and paramedics rushed to her Thousands Oaks, CA home. EMTs requested back up from the Sheriff's Dept. after getting the "overdose" call.

Less than 24 hours earlier, emergency responders were at Heather's home. TMZ broke the story ... she was arrested for kicking an EMT and punching a police officer Sunday night. She posted $20,000 bail Monday morning, and headed home.

Our sources said she planned to voluntarily check herself in for treatment. It appears she did not go voluntarily, after all ... but we're told she is getting treatment now.

This all comes on the heels of Heather being placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold last week. Family members made a nearly identical 911 call to report Heather was drunk and attacking her parents.

I have a feeling that soon the headlines will read "Heather Locklear dead at 56".

Stern made a joke that her recent woes are due to being married to Tommy Lee and Ritchie Sambora, who made her crazy. The salt naturally flows strong with Tommy Lee, who's been making a pretty vocal ass out of himself over his physical and verbal disputes with his son Brandon recently. Tommy needs to really slow his roll a bit on social media. Even if Brandon won't shut up just stop publicly replying. Brandon has an excuse. He's young and stupid and grew up on social media. You're pushing 60 and having slap fights with your own son on the internet. Want to guess which party looks the most exceptional here Tommy? Go back to DJing or whatever it is you're doing now that Motley Crue is 100% over.

Here's the article where Tommy Lee blasts Stern for hurting his fee fees.

You know, Tommy Lee. A guy who kept getting probation and slaps on the wrist for domestic violence. That Tommy Lee.

http://canoe.com/entertainment/cele...r-blaming-him-for-heather-locklears-breakdown

Days after radio host Howard Stern accused Tommy Lee and Richie Sambora of making ex-wife Heather Locklear crazy, the wild Motley Crue rocker is firing back.

@HowardStern Queen of media! How dare you blame me for Heathers (sic) recent troubles! That was like 24 years ago you idiot! #cowardsterntimewarp you should be wishing her well and not bashing me f—head!!! Wtf is wrong with you? I normally don’t respond to this stuff..f—ing BS!!” wrote Lee, 55, on Facebook.

Lee was married to Locklear, 56, from 1986 to 1993. She then wed guitarist Sambora, 58, from 1994 to 2007.

Said Stern, 64, on his show last week: “You know what drove this woman crazy? She was married to Tommy Lee and Richie Sambora… they made her f—ing insane.”

His shocking claim came after the Melrose Place actress was sent to the hospital following a scary suicide attempt inside her home. She was released soon after, but this Sunday was arrested for batter when she punched a police officer during a boozy bender.

After being released from jail, she was hospitalized once more due to an apparent overdose.

A source exclusively told RadarOnline.com that Heather Locklear’s family is hoping to keep her hospitalized for 30 days to ensure she gets the psychiatric help she needs.

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (FOX 13) - A stubborn kitty learned the hard way that she doesn't like salt and vinegar chips.

The cat's owner was eating the chips when the cat makes a desperate grab at one of them. "Stop! You're not going to like it!" the cat's owner says.

But the cat didn't listen, of course. One whiff of the chip was just too much and the cat starts to gag.

The kitty eventually gave up and went to bed.
