So then they try to get into power and legislate that it's ONLY OK to bash the fash but not anyone else, and they'll arrest and gulag anyone who says or does otherwise or who objects.

It's sorta like the idiots that think that a small percentage of Black Supremacists would win a presumed "race war" when Blacks are 13% of the US Population, and radical commie Black Supremacists are an even smaller percentage than that.

Agreed; the demonification Hitler & the Nazis makes people's brains shut down, and prevents them from realizing that one out of every eight Germans didn't just wake up one day in 1933, watch the sun and rise, and collectively think "You know what? Today is the day I'm going to do it. Today is the day I'm going to actually get motivated, and work on achieving my New Year's resolution of exterminating the Semitic peoples". It didn't happen in a vacuum. If you don't look at the root causes, you can't stop it from happening again.

I never even thought about this.

I wonder if it's part of human nature to see violence as the best way to end a threat, instead of the slower, steady coaxing to your side. There's no catharsis in that. No primitive satisfaction in hurting your enemy. That's what Dobson wants. He says he's a pacifist, but that's just because he has attack dogs to do the work for him. He gets the emotional high of seeing his wrong-doers punished but can still claim his hands are clean.

But it seems people like Dobson buy into this whole ridiculous "our party can do no wrong - everyone who disagrees is a bigot and a hater. I'm just standing here, wondering how we got such a large group of fully grown up people with such a simplistic, reductive and violent world-view that outright refuse to engage in debate.
These people think that the moment they label someone a Nazi, said person no longer deserves a right to speak up for themself - and if they do speak up for themself, that just reinforces the Nazi label, somehow.
The use of tautology and circular logic paired with this moral high-horse bullshit is just too much.
I can totally understand why people do this. It's nice to follow a rhetoric where you're on the right side of history by retweeting the right people and parroting the right opinions, while shutting down every debate with someone else by sticking a label to them. Especially since the label doesn't just make you win the argument but also makes you the morally superior being.
And of course, everyone who realizes that this is not productive in the long run now faces the threat of being labeled a Nazi, too.

While I firmly believe that both sides share the blame, it's not hard to see that leftists seem to be a lot more obnoxious in their demand of ethical and moral purity. You either conform to their every whim or you're an enemy. If you screw up, you get thrown under the bus (unless when you're high-ranking enough that people will actually just ignore all wrong doing, no matter how bad).

Here's to hoping that these are just the death throes of a dangerous, mind-numbing cult of virtue-signalling pseudo-intellectuals and not just the next step in the political evolution of the left.
