For context of the Penne thing someone cheered to let Phil know there was an Easter egg he should be sure to find.

But God damn he falls all the way out of camera. It's the funniest joke he's ever heard.

In general he's pretty autistic about humor. Random things get ACK ACK ACK but actual jokes or references tend to not get anything.

The best part to me is his only actual response was, "UHHHH!!! UHHHH!!! What year was this game made?!?! Uhhhh!" Dave's such a slow-witted narc his first and only thought was that Vivendi Universal made a DSP detractor meme reference, 12 years before it was a thing, back when he worked in a bank or a helicopter plant or some shit. . .because they ran out of Simpson's references. He can't even process that it has nothing to do with him and Popsicolo just trolled him for the lulz

so way it looks between him and cat they are pulling in over 100k a year easy. maybe why he hasn't came off as desperate. he will still be fucked in about 6 months with the little support he has left tho but somehow always manages at least 7k a month

Do we know Phill's average expenses, he seems to bitch about not having money but his financial situation is somehow improving.

I'll consider DSP desperate for cash when he takes his beloved statues, drags them all to a pawnshop & sells the joblot for a few hundred dollars, not the thousands he thinks they're worth. For now I think he's treading water & it's not as bad as it seems.

Depending on if you trust the words coming out of his mouth, we know a few monthly costs:
  • $1,500 for the Connecticut condo (source: January? 2017 business update, whining about how much it costs him, implies the now dead aunt moved out fairly recently & thus it's a fresh burden to add onto the 'LeafyisHere' views tanking since summer 2016.)
  • $1,500 for the Washington 'house' (source: February? 2017 business update, in the vlog after the condo info above he vaguely claims his 'big house' is the same cost as the condo.)
  • $400 dual business Internet (he has repeatedly stated this on prestreams & Twitter & his forums. Comcast does have a $200/month was 100/20Mbit business cable package - the cheapest of the 20Mbit upstream packages. Now upgraded to 300/20? for free by Comcast.)
  • Sub $300 healthcare (he's whined about this cost a few times, went up from ~$200 in 2016? Pretty sure he brought it up in Half-Life 2 Episode 2 gameplay when a Canadian viewer was "participating" about how much more expensive gasoline is in Canada.)
  • Sub $300? for the Toyota Corolla we're not supposed to know about, 6 year car payment (DSP claimed he's saving a couple hundred dollars versus the BMW lease, so that was likely $500+ when I figured that was around $300, ouch)
  • $70-150 for 'energy' (courtesy of the mrstupid1 August 2017 leaks showing various monthly costs from his electricity company)
  • $50? for his cellphone plans. Middle of 2017 he had a late night prestream where he went over costs, telling us $130+ for cable TV and also ~$100 for a combined cellphone plan that still covered Leanna some months later. He cut her off along with dropping cable TV for PSVue & dropping the phoneline his parents insisted on, guesstimate $50 for his current cellphone plans (unknown if Kat has been added raising this, or if she pays for that herself)
  • ~$40 for Sony's PSVue on demand cable TV replacement, plus whatever Netflix costs ($12?)
Following this there are a bunch of costs we know about, but don't know reasonable values:
  • Credit card debts. DSP also seems to have been paying off these slowly with whatever excess he gets, e.g. he somehow could afford an $800 retainer for the Washington tax attorney in 2017 but needed more in tips later to pay the remaining $1K+.
  • Vague 'business loans'. DSP has talked about these very vaguely, mostly in the 2016 State of DSP Address (following on from the Scarface Q&A) where he implied he had 2 business loans. The first is unknown when he got it, but the 2nd sounds like he got it in late 2015 when he realised how much of an income shortfall he had from lowered views after deleting videos following the SoK fanart copyright strikes.
  • Washington state taxes, the B&O backtaxes that stressed DSP over the past 9 months or so are now apparently paid off (by using 2 quarters of IRS tax money to pay the 2014-2016 2.5 years of backtaxes off) but of course he has these ongoing from now on.
  • Federal taxes, estimated based on his income the previous year. As above, hasn't paid ahead half of 2018's IRS taxes so this might hurt him later.
  • Day to day living costs. We have no idea about his weekly grocery costs, getting fast food, going to restaurants, and his game costs fluctuate month to month.
  • Occasional 'for the business' purchases, like more external HDDs to backup the 10 year legacy, controllers etc.
I'm pretty sure I did a more in depth post like this over the months here on KF, if you can search my posts in this thread or in general (I haven't posted outside the DSP black hole of :autism: yet) you might be able to find more exact values.
Just adding up the known values is over $4,000 per month, and doesn't cover taxes, credit card debts or business loans which should be fairly expensive and add a good chunk more. That's why I figure $5K is treading water, perhaps even as high as $6-7K before DSP's starts making a profit.

I'll consider DSP desperate for cash when he takes his beloved statues, drags them all to a pawnshop & sells the joblot for a few hundred dollars, not the thousands he thinks they're worth. For now I think he's treading water & it's not as bad as it seems.
This I agree 1,000% Phil can say his financial situation is not good and his account is at risk of over drafting every month, but until he actually makes moves to fix that situation it is all just him hunting for pity bucks. This is a guy who has been crying poor for 3 years who didn't notice how much his cable bill was since moving to Washington. If the overdraft thing isn't a straight lie it is just because his bills go right in the shredder and he crosses his fingers hoping he has enough to clear the payments.

Well.. you gotta give credits to this Nich guy. Still trying to be helpful, too bad phil and his other forum members shit on him.

LTG must have posted "trust no bitches" or something and DSP felt the need to insert himself into the situation at 1:50 in the fucking morning.

He continued by discussing quantum mechanics and the physics behind faster-than-light travel until 2:20 AM:

First it was the Sons of Kojima
Then it was the Sons of Shigeru
Now we're gonna have fucking star wars nerds forming an autistic coalition to go after DSP talking about their favorite franchise.

EDIT:
probably also the shrek fandom:

Yep. The basic rule is, longer videos with better content less often. It's what everyone is doing because it works. His strategy didn't even work back in the day. The reason it seemed like it worked was because he got paid per view back then. If he got paid then the way he gets paid now then he would only make a portion of what he did. If he is going to keep forcing himself onto youtube then he needs to play the game. It's about retaining viewers and keeping them long enough to get to every ad break.

Also about the prestreams: People sugges that you go do something else while the prestream is going but that doesn't work. You have no idea if this one is going to be an hour long or two hours long. If Phil did like Pineapple head said and had a set time for the actual stream start, then people who don't want to see the prestream know exactly when to come in. Just announce "Prestream starts at 11am and the real stream starts at noon, or something like that.

That's just it though - I think he is intentionally playing the Youtube game wrong because it gives him an excuse. As long as it keeps failing, he can keep whining about how hard his life is and in turn can keep convincing his idiot fans into giving him more money. That's why he keeps ignoring people like Nich, even when their advice would literally result in less work for Phil.

I never understand when Phil uses the excuse “everyone else does it, but that’s not me.” What the hell kind of business degree did he get that taught him that it’s more important to not change anything? There’s a reason that streamers are making more money with a bigger audience than him. The YouTube/Twitch business is 100% following trends to get an audience and to dig his heels in and say “I don’t need a better camera or a green screen just because other streamers have them, it’s just a fad that they latched on to,” is almost like he’s begging for his “business” to die slowly just so he can play the martyr.

He doesn't understand that following the trends that lead to longevity is just what needs to be done. The only time you can avoid that is if you are the one creating them. He follows them eventually but it's always too late at that point. When he decides to do what everyone else is doing, for example direct capture, people already consider those things standard procedure instead of an amazing advancement. It's not even like everything he is doing is wrong, it's just the way he's doing it. I watch a few Twitch channels and I've noticed that the ones with the most success are the ones who don't take themselves super seriously. I watched one guy get his hair dyed and cut to look like Hulk Hogan's while he played wrestling games with a friend. Also saw another guy (Aris of Avoiding the Puddle) get about 50 subs in the matter of 10 minutes back to back because one of his mods reminded people that they could use their Twitch prime trial to sub.

If Phil needs money now would be a good time to sell his statues. Marvel related collectibles have gone way up in value. His She Hulk statue is one of his more expensive and non broken statues. Maybe he's just too scared to go to an actual pawn shop.

But he can't dood!! If he puts them on Ebay the detractors will troll with fake bids!! And he won't put them up as a "Buy Now" Item because then he won't get top dollar.

I agree that he’s too exceptional to understand what would lead to long term growth, but it just makes me laugh to think that this was an honor student in business school when it is rule one of business that to succeed you have to adapt to the times.

Phil has proven that adaptation is the last thing in the world that he wants to do. He just wants to coast on his previous success and he thinks that he is owed a living.

Staying up until 4 in the morning to get involved in an already well decided discussion about a movie he doesn't give a shit about because it was released on netflix so he could watch it for free. Good use of your time Phil, good to see Disney's got you in their corner.

He's depressed, that's why he can't sleep. It's not because he's gotten into a habit of staying up all night and tweeting stupid shit at people.

So, I just heard Phil's plans for the next big Sub goal stream. Watching his own videos and reacting to them. Any other person and this might be the making for good tv. For Phil it will be a disaster. His reactions are garbage and fake. He won't play any of the videos that people REALLY want him to play. I'd love to see him watch himself talk about killing Jews in Dead Space, or explain the humor behind Chinky Chang Wang on Sleeping Dogs. He's advertising rage-athon again so it'll be as trash as his SF Master Run crap.

Someone asked if Phil would be willing to watch detractor videos as part of his Phil Reacts series.

He said of course not. Which is fair enough.

But then he said it doesn't matter because Patreons are voting on what he watches and Patreons are Real Fans who would never suggest detractor garbage.

It's always fun how if he makes an almost valid point he can't help but overexplain himself into exceptionalism.
