1) How badly did Christine harm herself when they told her to punch herself? Do we know if it ended up drawing blood?

Pretty much this, in America a lot of old people will rather stay at home with a family member or live alone than go to some nursing home, and the reasons are numerous, from shit care (especially in more rural parts of the USA, where people often opt to be transferred to a big city hospital) to the hit to one's own morale it can take. There's a reason there's a whole industry of "life alert" style devices for old people living alone.

How SSI works is you get this lump sum. However, part of that sum needs to go towards the total cost of utilities, groceries, etc. So when it comes in, there's always a scramble to pull it out before it can be shut off for going over the max value allowed. In this case, Barb pulls out 900 and does fuck all whatever. Chris never sees a dime and the government nor the welfare department give two fucks what's done with it. Barb could go to a damn strip club and as long as the money is pulled, it's okay.

There are consequences to this, though. If the government finds you've been exploiting SSI, they'll cancel it. If someone spills the beans, they'll cancel it.

I'm willing to bet if you asked Chris about anything regarding the tugboat, all he's aware of is the government sends them money........and that's it. He know nothing.

Chris is on SSDI, not SSI, I am not American, but I believe some people here explained that they work differently.

Right or wrong never mattered to the trolls, old or new, and even now, I'm sure much of this thread is just pretending. If Null had come out and said the opposite, siding with the extortionists for some reason, the forum would have gone, "Yeah Null, get'em! Get Chris!"

The "if you close down the subforum, someone else will just set up shop!" argument is proof of this. Essentially, it's a "lesser of two evils" fallacy. It's a way for everyone to take the moral high ground without actually changing their behavior. But they would discard it immediately if they thought they could. That "containment" bullshit is nonsense from people with fake troll's remorse. People don't like to be honest with themselves and admit "I like laughing at exceptional individuals and there's no real moral justification for this hobby." But it's true of me and everyone here, even the best of us like @Cosmos or @Marvin.

That said, there's no real comparison between the jackasses extorting CWC and most of the original crew (barring Bluespike, etc.) or the members of KF, and it's cool people are stepping in to protect Chris. He's an innocent victim here. I hope he gets a happy life one day.

What would the thread be about? These guys took advantage of a stupid person. It happens every damn day. One of the grounds crew we have got scammed a while ago and lost his house. He and his wife lost their home because he was stupid and fell for a scam. He has managed to be employed all his life and fell for the same thing Chris did.

Scammers have always been a danger for people who "aren't clever". If you turn on the nightly local news, you'll often hear a story on some new scam going around. It's gotten to the point where you can catch at minimum 100,000 views on YouTube if you record yourself fucking with a scammer.

So the thread on these guys would pretty much be about what they did and people bitching about it. Kinda like this one. A thread on kiwi farms isn't some punishment akin to prison, which if what is being said is true then they should be prosecuted.

SSDI doesn't have the same restrictions that SSI has - there's no asset limit that would compel them to burn money or risk losing benefits.

Catching up on everything, again you guys did gods work on this.

But something i keep seeing is people saying like “is it even a crime” and things similar. Yes. It’s extortion. Extortion is illegal. You can’t paint this in any other way, it’s cut and dry extortion.

They collected information/footage etc to use as threats to convince Chris of doing what they wanted. Vulnerable people are at so much more of a risk of things like this because they are usually more guillable than others. When we look at it all, yeah it sounds stupid; who the fuck would believe there’s some moon weapon out there to destroy a fictional universe? But it doesn’t matter how we see it, they knew that Chris would fall for it and they used that to not only get money, but to also get Chris to do the shit on camera to get even more ammo to use against her.

There really isn’t an argument here, they extorted money from someone with learning difficulties. What’s important, is working to try and stop Chris getting taken advantage of again. Personally, I still think if someone else was in control of her finances, at least for a while until she can learn about how to spend responsibly, would be the best bet, along with getting her out of living with her mother. That way, Chris gets to keep her money that she is entitled to and actually learns some life skills.

High functioning autism doesn’t just mean the person is completely able to be independent. It’s high functioning in comparison to the rest of the spectrum. Many people who are high functioning still need support; Chris hasn’t had a level of independence due to her family coddling her all her life, so she needs to actually learn how to be a “high functioning” adult. Chris has good levels of communication, which is where the high functioning comes into it as people with severe autism are often mostly non-verbal, but she still has issues with social norms and picking up cues. Text is hard enough to convey your actual feelings in for non-autistic people, so throw autism and internet trolls into the mix and it’s just a disaster waiting to happen.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel people are putting way too much of this on Chris. Yes she is an adult, but she’s an adult with autism, a condition that causes learning difficulties, and we have to be blunt about that. Just because it’s not as severe as something like Down’s doesn’t mean it doesn’t effect a lot of her thought processes.

@Null and co are doing the right thing in trying to set up support to stop this from happening again, fuck what /cow/ are saying. Just because us Kiwis can be pretty big degenerates doesn’t mean we never care about when a joke goes too far (i mean, look at the Phil thread, most of us find his surgery hillarious, but also are semi-disgusted at the fact someone actually OKed it in the first place).

The money does get spent on bills...eventually. The mortgage gets paid, the utilities get paid, property taxes get paid, food gets bought...eventually.

You can argue that Barb would not be able to afford to stay in the house without Chris and/or that she's is making Chris pay more than half of their living costs, but a non-trivial amount of what he gives Barb is going on expenses Chris would have to meet even if he was living on his own.
