In the mean time, I compared the pre-election coverage of Ocasio-Cortez with that of Wu, and there's a distinct difference in character between what's been written about them. Wu somehow got write ups in the more prestigious end of the market, but what was written about her was oddly perfunctory. Cortez on the other hand got several long pieces written, focusing heavily on biography and her politics.

To be sure, a lot of this is doubtless due to the proximity to the elections when each was written. Wu's press all happened last year during the off season, when she was a political novelty to fill pages in what was likely a slow news period. Cortez was a serious political candidate running a popular campaign. Wu has only really appeared in the press as a footnote since then attached to articles about Ayanna Pressley, basically just "Brianna Wu is also running."

I can't help but wonder though, is it generally the case that unsuspecting reporters get sent out to cover what they think is a real candidate and quickly discover she's a political lightweight with nothing worthwhile to say? A lot of the Wu articles have the feel of journalists who owe their editors 300 words, and can't bring themselves to scrap a day's work. I guess it doesn't help that Wu really can't be forthcoming about anything in her life because she's a total fraud.

This is where Wu's political stances and Gamergate fraud mix to protect her from a biased press, in my opinion.

I don't like getting into the substance of politics on lolcows -- MovieBob, for instance, is such a loathsome figure I think it's incredibly unfair to tar those who share his non-genocidal beliefs with his presence -- but I think it's hard to avoid it when trying to figure out why Brianna hasn't been exposed as a total fraud. S/he ticks so many of the boxes they want to protect and foster: transgender (secretly, but it's got to be an open secret at this point), feminist, ostensibly working in STEM ... and of course a victim of dem ebil Goobergapers. These reporters go out to take a look at her, see she's a mentally ill fraudster, and instead of blowing her off the map, they just quietly bury the stories.

Of course it may not be bias. It may just be they don't think she's worth the effort.

They'd have a point if she wasn't one vote away from one of the country's highest offices.
You'd think at least one journalist somewhere would think it their duty to stand up and say there's a lying grifter running for office.

The mainstream reporters who have covered John so far are either profoundly biased or grossly incompetent. Both ain't out of the question.

This is a 41-year-old candidate whose life before Gamergate is a complete blank. The reporters apparently never ask about his education, his work history or his current employer. They never check to discover that his game company is a vanity project that lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. They never report that he's from Mississippi. There's never a word about his wealthy and privileged background.

All of this is Reporting 101 and is information that would be included in your basic voters guide published by the League of Women Voters. (If the League does a primary guide for the 8th Massachusetts, the entry for John will read "Did not reply.")

These reporters should be fired. But they won't be.

Fortunately, I suspect that U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., has or soon will launch a whisper campaign to ensure that the fine folks of his district know a lot more about John Walker Flynt than they will ever learn by reading the laughably unprofessional reporting of The Boston Globe.

Frank probably thinks he's gonna "teach her a lesson" to not do it for her. John is just going to wait all day for Frank to do it. 4 hours before due, she's gonna go set up in the main room with stacks of papers all around her and wait. When Frank comes into the room she's going to look at him, snarl, and shriek "FUCKING LEAVE ME ALONE I HATE YOU! I HAVE TO FINISH ALL THIS AND YOU WON'T HELP ME AND I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME!!!"
Then Frank will run up to John, "No baby no, I --" and John will interrupt, "NO! DON'T TALK TO ME! I HATE YOU! WHY WOULDN'T YOU HELP ME? YOU DON'T LOVE ME! I'M TELLING EVERYONE!"
Frank: "Well I was trying to teach you a lesso--"
John (snarling, again): " You were trying to TEACH ME by ruining THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN MY LIFE? What were you trying to teach me? How awful you are?"
Frank: "I.....ughhh.... look.. *sits down, looks at phone to check time* We've got X hours left, let's just forget everything that happened and go through this together. It's okay, we can fix this."
John, sobbing: "Okay.... *slowly slides the entire pile of paper across the table in front of Frank*
Frank: "*sigh*..... what has my life become??
John (snarling biggest): WHAT WAS THAT? *John raises his hand to Frank, maybe holding a lit cigarette and eyeing his flesh*
Frank: "Nothing dear... *scribble scribble scribble*

Don't forget reporters who previously vouched for her at GilbertGrape's peak. It's the same problem as Zoe Quinn and that bunch: they've sunken enough effort into telling her story that backing out would make them look foolish.

Hilarious.

Warren was just today regaling us with tales of how Wu has so little empathy that she's constantly alienating would-be allies with careless words. Wu's self image and her actuality are so seriously divergent that it's almost certainly pathological.
