Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

I just had a strange ass thought.
In the world of SU where minerals and gems are sentient beings from a far away land. How do rings, jewelry, and other things work? Like how does Diamond rings work in that world? Are they alive? The fluoride in toothpaste, was it ground up from a living thing? Are there things like mineral vegetarians in that world?
Am I high?

Without the magic/technology that makes a Gem a Gem, those gems/minerals are raw material. Gems would generally view them akin to food, something with which to make new Gems, but not something one would shriek in horror if someone put it in front of you (unless the Gem is stupid, at which point they might mistake the gem as a shattered remnant of a Gem). A diamond ring might offend a Homeworld Gem loyalist because some puny organic wears the materials used to make their god-queens, but that's the extent that they'd view it.

Rebecca Sugar's nonbinary now.

Steven Universe's Rebecca Sugar on How She Expresses Her Identity Through the Non-binary Crystal Gems

Steven Universe is, without a doubt, one of the most groundbreaking television shows airing right now because of its strong messages about queer positivity, inclusion, and the power of love. As much of an impact as the show has had on its fanbase, it also helped creator Rebecca Sugar become more comfortable with her own identity.

In a recent interview with NPR’s 1A, Sugar opened up about how the process of creating Steven Universe ultimately played a large role in her deciding to come out as a nonbinary woman. That part of her identity, Sugar explained, informed a lot of the way that the show approaches the Gems’ gender:

“One of the things that’s really important to me about the show is that the Gems are all non-binary women. They’re very specific and they’re coming from a world where they don’t really have the frame of reference. They’re coded female which is very important. I was really excited because I felt like I had not seen this. To make a show about a young boy who was looking up to these female-coded characters—they appear to be female, but they’re a little more representative of nonbinary women.

They wouldn’t think of themselves as women, but they’re fine with being interpreted that way amongst humans. And I am also a non-binary woman which is been really great to express myself through these characters because it’s very much how I have felt throughout my life.”

What’s so fabulous about Steven Universe’s approach to gender with characters like Stevonnie, who’s a fusion composed of a teenaged boy and girl, is that it puts the emphasis on humanizing its characters through actions rather than overwrought explanations. Given how often the argument is made that queer subject matter is too “complicated” for younger audiences to understand, it’s incredibly important and impressive how easily Steven Universe disproves that idea.

Garnet’s Universe came to mind, but that was during season 1, which at the time was being presented to us as another weird slice of life cartoon, back when the true nature of the story was only hinted at in the background. So that episode helped maintain the facade.

I do tend to appreciate the episodes that focus on Steven’s interpersonal relationships, because those elements will always be part of the show’s bones no matter how epic the story gets, but yeah at the later stages they do get a little frustrating.

And as far as I can remember the cuck mailman episodes have all really been about other things, like Beach City’s historical relationship with the gems or how the gems interact with humans independent of Steven. The mailman is just the danny tanner-looking mother fucker who gets the ball rolling.
Lol, you posted about Steven Universe.

> nonbinary but still a woman

When you want to be oh-so-extra-special but you can't be bothered to actually do anything out of the ordinary and you're just really fucking boring.

Wasn't there some other SU writer who claimed to be a "nonbinary woman" or some other extra-special identity who got kicked off the writing team for being a fucking nutter?

Shit, how did you know
You're pathetic.

Eh, it was kind of expected given that she said that Gems themselves barring Steven are genderless (or possibly non-binary, I can't be assed to figure out anymore) in older interviews. One thing that does worry me is that this feels like the same bullshit that Mike and Brian pulled off with Korra.

Weird, I heard rumors that she was still working at CN despite the fallout with the SU staff. I guess those were wrong. Also what the fuck is with the name change to Jesse? Did they come out as a troon recently or something?

EDIT: As of this edit, their GoFundMe page is currently at $4,498. What's interesting is that they're using it to pay for a month's worth of rent while their trying to find either a roommate to split rent with (not happening given their current health, no sane person would do that willingly) or find a cheaper apartment (also not happening unless the get the fuck out of the safe space that is the Los Angeles area, $1,400 is lower than the average rental price for a studio apartment in SoCal).

Zuke declared herself enbie or something right around the time he got kicked the fuck of the writing staff. Hence also the "them" pronouns in those posts.

Also

because we owe a lot of what Lapis, Peridot and just the show in general are today to them.
Okay but the show is shit now, what does that tell you?...

Tumblr says that yes, Lauren/Jesse is a man now.

No idea when the fuck this happened, though. But I saw it, and Sugar's "non-binary" thing a mile away.
