The Mary Sue

That black james bond thing was weird. All of the sudden everyone was an expert on James Bond lore, and James Bond was a code name for multiple agents. And it was like... I don't think so... I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be the same guy all along.

Honestly, I personally couldn't care too much less, because the james bond movies have never done anything for me, but it just seemed so weird to change an established character's race like that. Although there's quite a difference between Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery...

If you want to make an Edris Elba spy movie, why tie it to james bond anyway?

Because we need to erase straight white men and promote black men, duh.

I'll disagree with you here, because there's a funny throwaway line in On Her Majesty's Secret Service during the opening bit where Lazenby outright states to the camera "This never happened to the other fellow".

That said, there's a very funny Trevor Noah stand up routine about how difficult life would be for a black James Bond, running around lily white Scotland and trying to hide, while the bad guys just keep finding him because he just can't blend in for some reason...

To be fair James Bond was never good at blending in either. Dude shows up in a flashy suit, driving a fancy ass car, somehow always gets winning hands in poker, and lots of people die in spectacular ways when he's around. Hell, he usually directly confronts the villain early on.

Eh, the villains aren't exactly subtle either.

Hell, Drax outright admits he wants to kill Bond because it would be funny.

True enough.

I wouldn't have a shitfit if they cast Idris Elba. He was awesome in the Wire and Luther. I don't think it'd be some massive statement of equality and justice that would end racism forever, though.

One thing that is refreshing is that some of the coments are calling TMS on their hypocracy about objecting to a black Buffy when they defended black-Dominio, Riri Williams replacing Tony Stark, wanting an Asian Iron Fist and Dr. Strange, demanding a black James bond, etc. (Then screamed racist when people disagreed.)

I think Idris Elba would actually make a good Bond, but let's look at what would happen.

A black guy who acted exactly like James Bond does in every way would be accused of being a stereotype because he would be sexually promiscuous, violent, and drink a lot. So SJWs screaming for it would be screaming about how problematic it is later. I seriously doubt many of these idiots even watch Bond movies or they'd know how problematic they are in their portrayal of women, from just having a slut named Pussy Galore on.

Sorry if this is been covered already, but I just read a Mary Sue article in defense of Poe and Finn from TLJ. The Poe defense was especially funny, because they apparently think that he is a real person and shouldn't be blamed for poor writing.

What the author fails to recognize, though, is that a fictional character is the sum total of actions ascribed to him in writing.

That was an exceptional article, thanks for the link. I thought the point would be about not blaming the actor for bad writing, which is fair, but the writer isn't addressing what might be an actual problem.

Wouldn't they have to replace the vodka martini with...Hennessy or something?

Wait a second monsters in monster movies should not treat women badly? What the hell are they talking about?Because having a sexual pervert in a monster movie is bad for some reason? They do realise that if you're the kind of person that identifies with the 'monster' in those movies and wants to act the same way they act that means you're pretty much Ted Bundy?Or maybe the writers at TMS assume that normal people are educated only through movies so when they go out in the real world they'll assume the real world is the same way?Actually that last part is plausible they might actually believe that.
