It's also an attachment thing too with the characters. Often times, shounen/video games and the ilk often have more fleshed out personalities and designs than that of stuff that's pandering to fujos, and they're easier to relate to/get attached to than some fucker who was only made to be sexy. Though shows like Free and games like Dramatical Murder have broken that mold in some regard.

It's also a way of shelling out for attention, draw something popular and get people to look at your shit art. Drawing fanart of an obscure yaoi manga or drawing your own uninteresting OCs isn't nearly as lucrative.

I thought there's no way this couldn't be troll art, but this person has an entire blog dedicated to roleplaying this character (and art that presumably isn't drawn by them) so I doubt anyone would put that much effort into being a troll
