He's also still an addict and hasn't acknowledged he has a problem. That's why his therapist dumped him. He needs a support group to keep him accountable, but even then he probably thinks he is too good for that. Dude has serious issues but thinks hes in control.

He's yet another case of someone who will never have a "support group" because it would involve criticism, not to mention that what the hypothetical support group he would have would push him towards actually making an effort to lose weight. It's likely the only time he'll ever seriously consider putting effort towards losing weight will be the last moments he has on this earth, as he realizes his mistake - and if he survives said heart attack/stroke/whatever he'll go right back to fishing for asspats and praise while trying his damnedest to either avoid or lash out at criticism. He's not the first, and he certainly won't be the last.

On one hand, his sister was put into care, so there probably was some abuse or neglect going on at least at one point.

On the other, he lies whenever he opens his mouth (apart from when he is eating)

It would be interesting to hear from his brother about the home life situation.

Well, looks like someone read my post. Hi Boogie! Now, how about you start taking your own advice there?

You don't recover from an addiction by stopping using. You recover by creating a new life where it is easier to not use. If you don't create a new life, then all the factors that brought you to your addiction will eventually catch up with you again.
