Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Of course I don't mean that's what trans people set out to do but there are troons who do the "sleep with me or you're a bigot" shtick.

Both John Walker Flynt and Labelle have not only admitted to doing exactly that, but boasted about it and endorsed actually doing it, i.e. tricking men into sex. Nobody believes either of those weird ass looking motherfuckers ever actually succeeded at it, but being a trap is definitely their dream. If anything, those two are jealous of actual traps.

Simone has been at her lame sitcom style humor since she was a columnist at Comic Book Resources oh, many moons ago. She was being praised for writing one note humor columns that beat their premises into the ground like the text version of a TV comedy sketch that goes on for over five minutes when there's barely enough material to fill one minute. Like, there was this one where the Punisher's "war journal" is discovered by gangsters and it's full of fruity poems he's written and they laugh at him. Or how preachy X-men comics can be, yes, yes, the bigot villain's name is "Hamfist" how very droll, and so on. However it was supposedly "fun" and "fresh" and had comic pros proclaiming from the roofs that she was the best person with a humor column at a comic website in the early 2000s. Certainly though, even then she was dealing in "auntie" style humor.

isn't nearly as "damaging" as the terrible writing that goes into introducing a trans woman by having them interrupt Batgirl when she's in the middle of talking about how the Joker shot and tortured her to go "yeah well I'm trans."

That's apparently not damaging because that's literally what the sjw trenders do all the time. If anything they relate to that.

Sorry, Archive.is isn't working for this. Some random article I came across. https://www.wonkette.com/federalist...popular-handful-of-anti-diversity-comic-books

Also remember kids, movies are comics and let's ignore Marvel Studios not even being the same company.

Lmao the strawmanning and misrepresentation is strong on this one:
Federalist' Forgot How Much Superheroes Like Punching Nazis
Doktor Zoom, August. 10, 2018 11:00
As we have noted many times, wingnuts just don't get pop culture. (Ted Cruz is simply the worst of the bunch on that note.) They either think it's corrupting America, or complain pop culture was once as far to the right as they are, at least before women and minorities ruined it. Or they just plain get it wrong, as if the original "Star Trek" had been a tale of Goldwater Conservatism in space, when at most it was Kennedy liberalism in space, complete with Klingons to stand in for the commies. The latest pimple to burst on the perpetually angry face of the culture warriors is a rant from The Federalist about the imminent doom of the Big Two comics publishers, Marvel and DC, because they've gone and forced politics into superhero comics, as if Green Lantern and Green Arrow had never made embarrassingly stilted forays into racial politics in 1970.

You see, kids, nobody's reading comics anymore, because publishers have completely erased muscular white men from their offerings, at least outside all those extremely profitable movies with guys named Chris in them. Federalist columnist Jon Del Arroz explains:

Marvel launched a new run of Captain America by Ta-Nehisi Coates, who wrote a rant in The Atlantic arguing the election of Donald Trump surfaced a long-standing culture of "white supremacy" in the country.

His handling of the character came soon after Nick Spencer, right after Trump's inauguration in 2017, turned Captain America into an allegorical Nazi in order to attack right-wing America. Spencer wasn't fired for his offensive performance on the patriotic character, but rewarded with a higher-profile book: "The Amazing Spider-Man."
Translation: Oh, sure, maybe there's nothing (yet) to bitch about in Coates's treatment of Captain America, but let me bitch about the previous writer and about other stuff Coates wrote. Also, excuse us, but (spoiler warning!) Cap's seeming transformation was due to an evil doppelganger, and if that's not a traditional comic book plot line, what is?

Also, DC comics has gone and gotten all political, as if Superman hadn't been a full on New Deal Liberal from the get-go, saving folks from crooked bankers and always standing up for the little guy. Just think, the Social Justice Warriors have even gotten to Superman!

Such political correctness! In 1949. But DC for some reason saw the need to reprint it in 2017, and isn't that shocking? Oh, but look, the catalog of horrors just keeps rolling on, eek, scary:

The Batgirl comic recently moralized about how terrible it is to be "misgendered," which is social justice-speak for someone mistakenly calling a person by the pronoun that accurately describes his or her sex.

DC followed up on gender identity politics by running a storyline about Supergirl having a "non-binary friend," a rare mental illness where a person believes he or she is neither male nor female.
Even more horrifying, DC recently announced a comic to be written by one of Gamergate's chief targets, Zoe Quinn, who Del Arroz dismisses as "an ex-nude model famous for exploiting gender politics for her career advancement." Oh, and he mentions she "claims" she was harassed online, and that the lamestream media reported extensively on her "alleged harassment" without even once examining "her provocative antics," which surely was what brought all that hell down on her.

Fortunately, all this insanity that is ruining comics, at least for very fragile white guys, is about to end immediately, because all of America's comics readers are going to #WalkAway from the liberal indoctrination of the Big Two. You know this from the Federalist's headline: "Crowdfunded Rebellion Against Identity Politics In Comics Nets $1.25 Million And Counting." Yessir, the age of the pajama boy socialists is over and the Alpha Superheroes are back. But still gallivanting around in their underwear. Even pajamas.

Now, if you don't read the article itself, as plenty of people on Twitter didn't, you might be under the impression that somebody has actually started a GoFundMe for White People Comics that has raised a million-plus bucks. You would be wrong. Instead, Del Arroz notes that several anti-social justice jackholes have launched successful crowdfunding efforts for their own comics over the past few years, and if you total them all together, you get that $1.25 million, which certainly ought to strike fear into the hearts of Marvel and DC. Or at least it might if they weren't so busy rolling around in the billions of dollars coming from their movie adaptations.

But yes, the comics side of the comics biz is down a bit, although as The Atlantic notes, that probably has far more to do with the same troubles other publications are having as more and more of their audience looks for entertainment online, plus some problems with the comics industry model itself, than with readers' imagined disgust with diverse heroes -- in fact, the rebooted titles with women and minority heroes often outperform the white male ones.

Like so many conservative boasts of the incredible market power of rightwing consumers, Del Arroz's insistence that comics better stop being on the wrong side of the culture wars is a just-so story for dissatisfied wingnuts who fly into a tizzy about gay people in TV ads. And how's this for a guy who firmly rejects identity politics? In the Indiegogo fundraiser for his own comic, Del Arroz is described as

a #1 Amazon Bestselling author, "the leading Hispanic voice in science fiction," according to PJ Media.com, and winner of the 2018 CLFA Book Of The Year Award.
In case you're wondering, that would be an award from the Conservative Libertarian Fiction Alliance. You know, for people who can't stand how comics and popular culture are always cramming politics down your throat.

As much as people do "Hah Batman is evil rich white guy", why do they think stories of racial oppression work for superhero protagonists in the modern day?

No, this isn't a racism is over thing, more I think no one would go insulting the 8 foot tall green Asian kid who can move mountians for being Asian. The same one who's rich, best friends with a legit god, 8th smartest person on Earth, and has the greatest sorcerer ever in his circle of pals. Even old X-Men tales gave more to why being a mutant is rough like unstable powers.

The end result mirrors the narratives they wrote for their own lives if you read twitter, simutanously both "laughin' at the haters" and "omg I'm literally dying". At least in the real world, those writers presambly do have shitty lives they could use help on.

While not part of the industry, I remember MovieBob's take as he was the only guy I've seen try to address that. His argument was because they "represent" minorities who have it rough in the real world then they need to have it easy in fiction......which doesn't really answer anything and makes more questions. It breaks any logic more then accepting spider people existing in that world. Even the most extreme take on "oppressed" would exclude most nu-Marvel heroes.

They brought up that (“““SJW””” Superman) poster again, let me bring up an official cover of Superman:
View attachment 516229

Late 30s to Early 40s Superman can be seeing as a ""SJW"" (but more proactive), if we read the first comics. We can see him attack wifebeater, attack rich people who treat his worker like shit, and his relation with Lois Lane.
This was mainly because Superman was a escapegoat from people, in a dark age that commies and fascist where ruling in some places, and nobody in USA knew what to do.

But when USA enter in the WW2 and pearl harbor happen, people prefer reading superman slaping japs and nazis than slapping a proud american guy who happen to being a little tought to his workers.

Althought, I agree that people acting like Superman was a SJW is stupid because superman at least do something unlike SJW, who fails at everything.

Since comics and faghag fanfics were patient zero for what turned into sjws, and Gail Simone was one of the progenitors of comics feminism hysteria, I hope she finally gets eaten alive by it. :optimistic:

Simone was always been protected (for example, when DC fired her, and the media forced them to rehired her and make her still writting shitty comics about batgirl) but compared with other author who are coming to comics, she is inoffensive and can write some decent stories like the first secret six.

I don't know why you don't link it.

The Trump Space Force comic cracks me the fuck up.

It was mentioned upthread (oops that was a different Federalist article). The "ex-nude model" thing was pretty dumb because it implies professionalism and Chelsea has touted herself as an ex-"sex worker" among the other bogus claims she makes about herself. An unpaid Suicide Girls shoot by some attention whore with pancake tits who was a 5 at her prime doesn't make her a professional model.

Yet another higher up at IDW leaves:
IDW Entertainment President David Ozer Exits

The exec is becoming an independent producer.

IDW Entertainment — the media arm of independent comic publisher IDW Publishing — is losing its leader.

David Ozer, president of the company since its 2013 launch, has stepped away to become an independent producer. Ozer’s departure was announced by IDW Friday afternoon, with Kerry McCluggage, CEO of IDW Media Holdings (parent company of IDW Publishing, IDW Entertainment, IDW Games and Top Shelf Productions), releasing a statement which reads, “David has been with IDW Entertainment from the beginning and, along with his team, helped build IDW Entertainment into a thriving independent production company and we wish him well in his future endeavors. We look forward to building on the solid foundation of our entertainment division by developing and delivering even more quality productions to the television and film markets.”

Ozer was responsible for negotiations with Syfy for the fan-favorite Wynonna Earp television series, as well as Netflix’s Locke and Key and V-Wars shows, all of which are based on IDW Publishing properties.

The IDW announcement also included a statement from Ozer himself, which read, “This was a difficult decision to make, as I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with IDW Entertainment, but also incredibly excited by the opportunities in the independent producing market today.”

Ozer's departure continues a period of significant upheaval at IDW Media Holdings; in June, Ted Adams stepped down as CEO of the company for a sabbatical, although he is expected to return to the company in a creative role. Earlier this year, Chris Ryall stepped down as editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing after 14 years, with former editor John Barber returning to the company to replace him in April.

There was no mention of a potential replacement for Ozer in IDW's release.

Oh boy, isn't IDW's third quarter financial report due out soon? How many millions of dollars have they lost this time around? It was -6.7m at the end of April. If they keep bleeding money at similar rates i doubt TV or Netflix will save them
