They view themselves as the deposed "true heirs" and believe that if only they can oust the usurper, everyone will recognize their lawful claim to the throne and bow to them in a final, beautiful coronation ceremony that fades to the credits while the triumphant music swells.

In all seriousness though, when talking about assassination attempts, I can remember the time Vice President Cheney delivered a speech at Fort Riley, Kansas. This is on a military installation, so there's already tight security, then we had to go through a metal detector and be patted down. Even after all that there were Secret Service around the barracades and snipers on every other rooftop.
