Containment What If?

I always wanted to know what if Chris was institutionalized so that he can better cope with his autism.

What if he went to an art school to have better skills in drawing rather than getting a degree he'll never use.

He's somewhat a decent entertainer, so I wonder if Chris could have ended up as a local host for a TV station.

So many opportunities. So much wasted time by Bob and Barb (especially Barb), but especially Chris himself.

That's too optimistic. Even if Chris become a decent artist or is given a chance to be a host of a local TV station. His laziness will prevent him to have a regular work schedule. Chris doesn't do commissions, because he only draws what he wants to draws, nothing else. Also, I doubt he will do well in art school, he hates taking criticism, which is a major part of art school. Also it is not a walk in the park, there are history classes along with lengthy projects that can even burn out the most hardworking person.

That is a good point. Most content creators who are artists that use crowdfunding, do commissions. Thinking about it now, I'm surprised Chris hasn't done that, but from what you've just pointed out, it makes sense.

Well, Chris is doomed.

They don't really put people in institutions these days to help them, but because they're just so fucked up and broken they've given up on doing anything but warehousing them.

Long term care is for the rich with Cadillac health plans or for people who would otherwise just be in prison.

I meant when he was younger, as that was one of the options.

If his parent's weren't totally fuck heads (no offense to the internet lumberjack himself) and actually cared to get help. Although knowing their living condition they would probably get Chris taken away (which would probably be for the best).
They were terrified of institutions. I can't help but respect them for that decision. From their time, those places were fucking horror shows.

If anybody has any question as to why they did everything they could to keep Chris out of a mental institution, look up Willowbrook..

This place was the norm, not the aberration. Hell, even the Kennedy's, with all their power, couldn't keep their sister from dying in a mental institution.

Arguably, they went out of their way to make sure she died in a mental institution, because she was an embarrassment to them.

I wasn't trying to imply that Chris being sent to a mental institution would do him any good and I do admit that Borb did a good job in getting him out of that situation. However what I meant before was that what if Chris got proper treatment and his parents didn't raise him with such a large ego.

I got ya. I don't know, it's tough to say with Chris, he sounds like he was a handful as a kid. He got kicked out one school and the cub scouts. It's entirely possible that, no matter what the treatment plan, that lil Chris was just an feral asshole.
