Indeed, Evangline was quite popular, though there were two engines who felt differently; Henry and James.
"She's not as strong as an engine like me!" complained Henry, one evening in the sheds.
"Just give the lass a chance," said Donald.
"Aye," agreed Douglas, "Yon Evangeline may be old-"
"She is old!" remarked James, rudely, "I don't know why the Fat Controller even has her. She ought to be in a museum!"
"Rubbish!" snapped Gordon, "Evangeline was one of the first engines on the old Railway. She's an important part of Sodor's history, and she belongs here, with us."
"Gordon's right," Edward agreed, "and besides, you two, you don't like it when rude visiting diesels insult us for being old."
"We don't," grunted James, "I'm just worried she'll hurt herself, that's all. A delicate, old thing like her shouldn't be running herself ragged with your trucks an' the like."
"I don't believe she could pull even fifteen trucks along the main line, let alone ten," snorted Henry.
The other engines groaned.
"Anyway," continued James, "I've heard about her accident. What if something like that were to happen to her a second time? Then she may never run again."
"Well, of course she wouldn't run if she was kept in a museum forever. That's the whole point!" Edward finished.
He told Evangeline about Henry and James the next morning.
