To be fair, Trump has said shit about wishing he could curtail the freedom of the press and how nice it would be if people reacted to him entering a room like North Koreans react when Kim Jong Un enters one.

Could you produce the quotes, or are these just based on clickbait article titles going off a one word reply he gave to a question one time?

Yeah, trump says and does dumb shit though, no question about that though. But if someone's response to trump's dumb shit is to shit their pants and smear it on the walls, well trump's probably not the one I'm going to point and laugh at.

Remember when everyone on the damned forums kept falling for every single one of likeicareKF's bait posts, so Null tried to put a fishhook over every post he made just to try and warn people off? Sometimes I feel like Twitter should do that to Trump's account, because I swear to God that they just can't help themselves, and they're sounding more and more like they're quoting from shitty Saturday morning cartoons with every passing day.

"Make no mistake! We will not suffer fools! We'll get you next time, Trump! Arglebargle harumph!" It's gotten so bad that even the Washington Post is trying to tell CNN to cool its fucking jets.

What I don't get is, why are people saying they have something on Trump when they have nothing? And then later backtrack? Is someone just paying them so they can generate headlines and then memoryhole the retraction later? Just so they can generate negative perceptions of Trump and turn public opinion based on nothing?

There's been a few different reasons, really. Earlier in his campaign and then his Presidency, a lot of these retracted stories were due to barium meals being fed out into the press to help track down leakers. You'll notice that since then, the media's gotten phenomenally paranoid because all of their usual, trusted sources were burning them over and over again and they couldn't figure out what was happening. A lot of what you see these days are just what you outlined: It's either a breathless, desperate leap just to try and pull a story out of thin air by misrepresenting facts to an extreme, or in the case of CNN with this Lanny Davis story getting torn apart, it's just because they lied their asses off.

When I see outlandish stories in the media, especially in regards to Trump, I feel like he's the fabricator of the lie itself.

Not saying HE'S going to the media but...

I can't remember who or what I heard/read this from, but someone high in power and/or celebrity power wanted to find out which of their "friends" were leaking all of this information to the press. So one day, they told each friend something completely different to figure out who was the leaker. Lo and behold, one of the "friends" leaked.

I really, really wouldn't be surprised this is what Trump has done in the past and/or is currently doing it to some extent.

Thats exactly what the post above you said he was doing.

I honestly don't think trump cares enough to do that or we would have had more staffers being kicked out of the white house. Realistically, Trump is likely working with his ego and under the assumption that any publicity is good publicity (it worked for him during the election) even if that means contradicting his allies to make himself look smarter.

The press also makes for a convenient boogie man for trump to rally his base since the idea of liberal bias has been ingrained in republican voters for quite some time now. It's the equivalent of shillary talking about how you need to vote for her to keep all dem racist white folk from gaining power.

Out of curiosity, have you read this thread?

You might want to take a closer look before you decide the rising anti-media sentiment is all...excuse the pun, Trumped up.
If you read a little closer, I'm not denying that there is a liberal bias. In fact my post doesn't have anything to do with hk-47's post at all. I'm pointing out that Trump has a big ego and if he was trying to suss out a rat by giving everyone different bits of info, we would have heard him bragging about how he outsmarted someone by now (see ego).

I then made a larger point about how it's probably in trumps interest to allow journalists to do what they're doing because it gives him a convenient "other" to rally his supporters against, implying that for all his talk about all the unfair shit the media pulls on him, he probably secretly wants it to continue because it works to his advantage too.

Did I make that clear enough for you now?

To the first point I'd have to say that if you had a strategy that's been working over and over again with virtually a 100% success rate, why in the world would you broadcast that strategy to your opposition? If you're running a sting operation where-in you're funneling as many people as you can into one area under the guise of-- Fuck it, To Catch a Predator. When they bunkered down on that show, they usually used the exact same house for multiple offenders. They didn't put a neon sign out front when they got the first person letting everyone else know about the trap, they just sat there and let people keep rolling in through the front door.

It's not just the likes of him setting these things up, anyways. Given that he was a successful real estate and media mogul in New York City, he'd already have extensive experience with corporate espionage, but it would still be ridiculous to assume that he's the sole contributor to the leak hunters, who were formed and organized by Michael Flynn just before he was steamrolled by the IC. None of the people he pulled in to be leak hunters lost their security clearances when he was 'fired', though. Ezra Cohen-Watnik (The man with no face) and all of the people like him just melted back into the woodwork, and in Ezra's case the media and the opposition thought they'd gotten rid of him entirely, until it was discovered earlier in April that he's been moved into the DOJ, right beneath Jeff Sessions. Nobody in the media has any idea who he is or what he's doing, and more people still don't even think he's important, even though he's a highly-placed government official who was hired by a spymaster, has never once appeared on camera, and the White House staff will not talk about him to the media.

To the second: Yes, absolutely. That's exactly why he takes every single opportunity to goad the media into a batshit response, because the crazier he can make them look, the more damage he causes them to do to themselves. The media and anyone who suffers from any degree of "derangement syndrome" are just completely incapable of separating Donald Trump from The Donald because any of the outlandish and ridiculous things that The Donald does or says immediately plays to their confirmation bias and they take off running with it, even though it's yet to pay off even so much as a single time.

It used to drive me slightly crazy that I could stand around on the rooftops and scream all I wanted about how people just aren't paying attention and they're falling for a blatantly obvious piece of bait over and over again, but after awhile I just gave up because there's no convincing these people. They'll either have to figure it out on their own or just ride the wave out into 2024. In the meantime, I'm just kicking back and enjoying all the stupid headlines. Slate had a fantastic one, today.
