TGWTG Kyle Kallgren / Oancitizen / Brows Held High - Afraid of the Eggnog Ninjas, "Male Feminist" that Abuses Women, 2nd-rate Cinema Snob, Hugh Hefner A-Log, Fat Creepy Incel Cuck

What's so ridiculous about Kyle (and correspondingly, Dan Olson) is that by all accounts, they got nothing out of this shit. They tore an ideological rift right down the center of Channel Awesome, and for what? Both of these asshats wound up shit-canned by year's end, and if anything both are less relevant now than they've ever fucking been.

Do you have any more information on said rift-tearing? I remember them vaguely from TGWTG back in the day, but never thought they had enough pull to actually instigate any real schism.

B....but right side of history.

Dan Olson was let go after some shenanigans he pulled during Gamer Gate (I don't know all the exact details, unfortunately), and Lindsay and Kyle basically left in solidarity since Channel Awesome refused to take a hardline stance against GG. For all of CA's dumb, amateurish practices, one of the smartest things they've done is ignore Gamer Gate

Not counting the stuff that's alleged by anons "in the know," probably the best example is Count Jackula's testimony. Paired with what we know about Team Nostalgia Chick in general it explains a hell of a lot. Short version is that Quinn is an associate of Lindsay Ellis, and Kyle and Dan Olson, when GG broke, immediately tried to force all of Channel Awesome to side against GG. While both Kyle and Olson were extensively white knighted by Lindsey Ellis (who blamed GG for what would happen after this shit began), the TL;DR is that the pair tried to force everyone on CA to side with Zoe Quinn and publicly condemn GG.

While a number of content creators (all of Team Nostalgia Chick and several others) willingly pitched into supporting Quinn as part of the Autism Holy War, Count Jackula asked some very basic and very inconvenient questions, not the least of which was "Who the fuck is Zoe Quinn and why should anyone on this website give a fuck?" This was a relevant question, since both Olson and Kallgren were financially supporting her at the time, and Todd in the Shadows was quite literally acting as an attack dog for Anti-GG. Larry Bundy openly supported GG in direct response as well, seconding Jackula's statement that content creators should be allowed to side however the fuck they wanted. Team Nostalgia Chick - and Dan Olson and Kyle Kallgren in particular - made working at the site fucking unbearable, trying to force the entire site to submit to ideological purity tests. Eventually, after months of agitating in favor of the site condemning GG, Olson in particular got so toxic about it that Mike Michaud fired his ass, and the rest of Team Nostalgia Chick was skating on thin ice as well.

Team Nostalgia Chick brought their own shred of the Autism Holy War to Channel Awesome, solely to force the userbase to submit to ideological conformity and try to get them to side against GG. Instead it blew up in their faces and made pretty much the entire staff hate their guts.

This perfectly exemplifies what drove me nuts about GG as I came into it late and had no clue what was going on, and whenever I asked anyone "What is GamerGate?" I would get blasted with "Its sexist and racist!" and when I asked "How so?" I would then get labeled a bigot. Nobody would take the time to explain to me what the hell was going on. All I knew is that people were yelling at each other and it had something to do with video games.

Instead of moral purity tests and judging my character for asking questions, why not just take the time to answer my damn questions?!

Because the answers to those questions probably clash with the narrative they've set up. To paraphrase Thomas Pynchon, if they get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.

Because they couldn't answer them. Invariably, if anti-GG was asked to actually provide ONE real instance of actual sexism or harassment on the part of GG, they would not only fail to do so, but avoid doing so at all cost, because, quite simply, they couldn't. They were just repeating claims others had made without looking into them themselves, and when confronted with their ignorance, they just fell back on the narrative to keep from having to think too hard.

Because they are fucking stupid. They could end GG simply by going through Jarbo's Twitter, full of edgy jokes about age of consent in different coutries, ponyfaggotry and him admiting of tasting his own semen.

From the moment GG hit, the goal was to shut it down by preventing anything from criticizing the narrative. Nothing shows this quite so well as the few times Anti-GGers went on a program that showed them anything other than taint-licking supplication to the party line: They came across as unhinged morons that couldn't provide any evidence of any claims they made in any way, shape, or form. This is also why you would virtually never see Anti-GGers agree to debates or discussions - the facts simply were not on their side.

Jesus, you know you are an unequivocally awful human being when even Mike "I bully my employees and play xbox all day while my entire company goes down the toilet" Michaud gets sick of your shit.

They should have done what Christian apologists do and play words games with philosophy.

They basically did, though.

One of the most common responses to GG's legit complaints (such as indie devs openly financially supporting people they covered) was akin to "even if those are legitimate points, GG cannot be the vector to discuss them because harassment." That basically fed into their main narrative (GG is nothing but harassment of women, even if by definition, they just admitted otherwise in the preceding statement), and ultimately led to Dan Olson and Kyle Kallgren's variation:

That Gamergate was terrorism.

Imagine being so far on the spectrum that a simple consumer-rights movement becomes the most evil, villainous force in your eyes.

I mentioned this on another thread but I had the very same thing happen to me. I got told by some friends that I couldn't support a friend of mine because he was pro GG. I didn't know what GG was so my reaction was I didn't care. I was going to support my friend. I didn't know what GG was and I didn't care about it one way or another. My friends freaked out and told me I had inner misogyny. I haven't talked to those girls ever since. It hurt me at the time but now I don't miss them at all. The whole GG was a gigantic shit show.

It sounds like your friends suffer from the same ailment that Kyle, Lindsay, and Movie Bob have: they don't recognize that 99% of the general public doesn't give a shit about what's trending online. They'll keep retweeting a James Gunn hashtag because they are under the mistaken delusion that doing so will make a difference even though the vast majority of people who see Marvel movies only have a vague idea who Gunn is. I'd argue that this is even more so with Gamer Gate since its opponents have turned that movement into a catch all for whatever behavior it doesn't like. That's why dozens of think pieces sprung up following the Trump victory trying to tie Gamer Gate to the rise of the Alt-Right.

Agreed. Particularly cause at the end of the day, here is what people playing videogames care for:
Does that cost me more than 40 bucks and is it actually good?

Some games could be programmed by freaking serial killers, as long as it is a good game no one cares about it.

Whatever you say, soy faggot.
