So true. They can claim to be god-kin. They can claim to prefer being called sprout/sprouts. They can say they are oppressed on Twitter because someone didn't agree and they can say they have Edgar Allen Poe, Jesus Christ, and some animu character as their headmates but they are like everyone else. They are walking sacks of meat like everyone else and one day, they will die just like everybody else.

uGH this other forum i'm on is complaining that it's "indecent that you're forced to play as a white person" in the newest pokémon games 1) JAPAN and 2) jesus christ people write what they are holy shit
i literally had to say "would it be any fucking better if the protags were black" because im sick of this shit

thing is i've been on this forum for a solid almost-nine years i feel tied to it since i made lots of friends there

They won't be happy until all game protagonists are omnigendered pyrofox ice dragon-kins with a menagerie of headmates that "Front" at random intervals. On a semi-related note, I am coming out as a punching-kin. My preferred pronouns are biff/smack/ka-pow, and I communicate purely through punching people.

Because female-bodied people actually DO hit puberty and such earlier than their male-bodied peers, as a whole. (Seriously, most of the girls I hung out with as a kid had hit menarche and started to develop breasts and grow body hair by the end of elementary school, whereas most of my guy friends hadn't even come close to starting puberty.)

This is actually really fascinating. Not sure I agree with all of their points, but I'd need to do more research on various issues mentioned therein to form a solid opinion.

Eh, that's not entirely the case--though I do think these people are making it a WAY bigger deal than it actually is.

For instance, I do remember being quite disappointed when I first played Pokemon as a kid, since I started during Gen I, and not being able to play as a girl. I mean, I got around that by just naming my character after myself and pretending he was a she, but I'd imagine that it's a lot harder to pretend your character is a different race. It does make sense that a kid would want to imagine that it's really them in frolicking in the Pokemon world, y'know?

That said, I definitely think they're making a mountain out of a molehill here in general and it's obnoxious either way.

Agree'd on their blowing this shit out of proportion, but I think you're referring to gender, and that was fixed as early as Gen 2.

Gens 1-3, yes. I think Gen 4 (Black/White) is based loosely on America, with one city being inspired by Manhattan, while Gen 5 (X/Y) is based on Europe (not exactly sure what part, but Lumiose City's Prism Tower makes me think France and the surrounding region).

You got the games right, but the numbering wrong. Black/White was gen 5.

But yeah, the first four generations are basically set in the Tokyo area, Kyoto area, Kyushu (southernmost main island of Japan), and Hokkaido (northernmost island). The Japanese releases all use yen as in-game currency.


This should be a dream game for SJWs. Made by PoCs! Made for PoCs! Just about everybody in the game is a PoC!

And instead, they're complaining that the Japanese developers apparently don't know how to portray their own race properly.

Why are you asking us a series of questions? I don't know if that was your mom or if she even said a word and how could I possibly know if this mystery woman who may have said a word was saying it on purpose to trigger your phobia that you seem unsure about. I think you are a little confused and should probably do a preliminary investigation and get back to us with solid evidence.
