If I actually had the money, I'd give Jake the $1000, just to see him try and fail to live on his own without mommy to make his meals for him or buy his clothes for him. I'm pretty sure he has never balanced a checkbook in his life either, so you know he'd blow though the $1000 on video games and Pathfinder shit, and not take the cost of food, rent, and utilities into consideration. After 3 or 4 months of this, he'd come crying back to his "abusive" mommy to wipe his ass and feed him num-nums again.

If someone offered Jake a furnished apartment rent-free and said they'd pay his moving costs he'd find some excuse not to take it. It's just easy for Jake to pretend that money is the reason he's still living with mummy at 37 (and to imply that if only his followers donated more he could move) because few people will question it.
