Has anybody looked at the billion dollar lawsuit against Libya by Zaid? Was it a hard fought case or one of those where the US government goes: we own all the guns, we own all the financial institutions, we say you broke USA law and we are suing you in the USA and essentially win by default?

Just wondering because of the BC article was setup by Waid to paint himself in the most positive light and paint the opposing lawyer as an incompetent real estate lawman. Rackets read a pretty impressive list of accomplishments in EVS stream the other day, he seems like no slouch.

It gets funnier when it's revealed the pudgy screaming manchild for the coasts tried to fuck over not Richard C Meyer the youtube critic and small business owner. Nope they will be introduced to Sgt Richard C Meyer (retired) who served in the USMC for 4 years from 2000 to 2004 the army reserve and the army from 2008 to 2010 ish.

In front of a Texas jury.

Good luck hashtaggers you're going to need it or an oil barrel of astroglide for the buttfuckingbWaid just offered you all. :story:

It will be hilarious when they scream "He's a White Supremacist Nazi!!!" and Meyer introduces his Practicing Muslim Daughters and Jewish son to the nice Texas Jury.

Daughters wearing headscarves and the son wearing the yamaka. All lone star flag style.

It was an idiot proof lawsuit enforced at th epoint of multiple governments guns. I think it was pretty much a default judgement. Intelligence agencies had assigned clear blame and they had Libyan Government Operatives named and identified. It was a huge judgement and huge payout for the lawyer. But it didn't require any particular skills. All the work had already been done. He just got to file the "Please Pay Me" claims.

My knowlegue of legal cases is fairly limited but I'm right that boasting and talking shit about the whole thing publically in a recordable medium while it's going on is a really really bad idea? Considering Jim Sterling shut the fuck up and Digital Homicide's suit was way weaker, I can imagine your lawyer specifically tells you not to run your mouth.

Here's hoping that Mark fucks this up badly enough that the big boys take note.

Those are the eyes of a man who would be head of secret police in an alternate dimension.

Haha this all happened because an entire industry of """professionals""" couldn't take some old guy making YT videos review about comics he thinks suck inside his car/closet. :story:

Every so often I have to keep reminding myself of this.

Yeah, doesn't Meyer literally make videos on his phone and cough every 2 seconds? Is :autism: the only reason they didn't ignore him?

Personally I think he looks like Satans lawyer.

It's a genuine head stratcher if it isnt the tism, the only thing I can think off is they we're all spoiling for a fight after the drumpf got elected.

Autism and narcissism. Current creators (not only from comics) aren't used to hearing anything other than asspats, instead of ignoring some no-name YT reviewer, they decided to sperg out about him.

Now (almost) 2 years later, he's one of the most recognizable people in the comics community (number 84), has over 90K subscribers, made >$500K from crowdfunding and is currently suing a (former) legendary comics creator for interfering in his publishing deal.

It's a sad day for the industry when a man who posts unedited cellphone videos complaining about comics is more recognized and successful than the actual writers and editors.
Good to see it burn

I had to look him up. Apparently it's Alan Braverman, General Council of the Walt Disney corporation

His chilly expression reminds me of the old joke : "How long does copyright last for in the United States? How old is Mickey Mouse?"

The point being that Disney is so good at lobbying that they've managed to make sure that Steamboat Willy will never enter the public domain

In 1976, Congress authorized a major overhaul of the copyright system assuring Disney extended protection. Instead of the maximum of 56 years with extensions, individual authors were granted protection for their life plus an additional 50 years, (which was the norm in Europe). For works authored by corporations, the 1976 legislation also granted a retroactive extension for works published before the new system took effect. The maximum term for already-published works was lengthened from 56 years to 75 years pushing Mickey protection out to 2003. Anything published in 1922 or before was in the public domain. Anything after that may still be under copyright.

With only 5 years left on Mickey Mouse’s copyright term, Congress again changed the duration with the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998. This legislation lengthens copyrights for works created on or after January 1, 1978, to “life of the author plus 70 years,” and extends copyrights for corporate works to 95 years from the year of first publication, or 120 years from the year of creation, whichever expires first. That pushed Mickey’s copyright protection out to 2023.

The chart above illustrates the “Mickey Mouse Curve,” showing how copyright duration has changed close to each time Mickey Mouse is about to expire.

Not everybody has been happy about these changes due to our inability to use old work to create new artistic works. One author noted that we are “the first generation to deny our own culture to ourselves” since “no work created during your lifetime will, without conscious action by its creator, become available for you to build upon.”

Disney now has until 2023 to figure out how to extend that date once again. In 5 years or so, we can probably expect to see stories about proposed changes to copyright duration, once again. It is unlikely that a company as strong as Disney will sit by and allow Steamboat Willie to enter the Public Domain.

If our boy Zack wins, I can't even imagine the salt and :autism: that's gonna come from the Anti CG crowd. I'll just keep my  around just in case.
Whoever wins, one side will be salty as hell, the other smug as hell.

I don’t think this is a ranking but seeing YaBoi (84) being ranked higher Mike Mignola (88 ) really depresses me. And I like YaBoi.

I am not a huge follower of comics so I dont understand these rankings.

It's weird how these same spergs that lap up Disney's evil practices sperg about EA putting codpiece DLC or whatever in their games.
They're selective about the crusty dick they suck on.

The thing I'm finding so hilarious about this is that after all his sperging, polemics, and crusading to take YaBoi down Mark Waid will end up personally footing the bill for Meyer starting his own independent production company that will not only put out the exact work Waid was trying to block but also puts Meyer in the position of being able to produce other independent creator's works that he decides to take on; if Meyer wins as seems likely or gets a settlement.

My bets on Waid being forced to settle. I heard EVS mention a recording of Waids call to Antarctic and im wondering if anyone actually knows about it.

Also any jury in this case is going to be a Texas jury. Remember how a Florida jury viewed the smirking, arrogant Gawker defendants Nick Denton and Albert Daulerio? Remember what they did to those two?

Imagine that but Texas sized. Imagine how a jury full of people taken from their jobs and lives to hear this case will react to a spastic, hyper-liberal SJW shitstain who looks down on them and everything about them and views himself as the moral superior of everyone in the room, who illegally fucked over a guy who looks and acts a lot more like they do.

As i understand it (read: i watched Leonard French) Meyer has requested a jury trial but the judge may simply make a ruling on their own before it reaches that point.

I think it's because a jury ruling would be more symbolic than just a judge ruling. I don't see Meyer accepting a settlement out of court, this case seems like a very easy win and taking a settlement would hurt his cause.

Ah, a classic example of a villain inadvertently creating a hero that will cause their downfall.

It's quite fascinating how their attempts to maintain their "dominance" manage to fuck them over in the long run.
