Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

Oh, get off your high horse, Evans; everyone knows now that Joseph Welch was grandstanding with that line. McCarthy had just pointed out that Welch had no reason to be shrieking about gays (a.k.a. Roy Cohn, McCarthy's staffer) when one of Welch's own interns was quietly known to be gay, so could he stay on topic. Welch, as any true left-winger, started immediately getting offended that he had outed a guy who had a promising career, and now it was destroyed, and how could you do such a thing?

Which, considering the Army-McCarthy Hearings were part of an underhanded retaliation for McCarthy investigating the presence of Soviet agents in Fort Monmouth (*coughRosenbergscough*)...

Anyway, you'd think a guy who was just sneering at Kanye about historical illiteracy would at least try not to be historically tone-deaf himself.
Really? The account I read wasn't that one of Welch's aides was gay, but that the aide was a member of a group specifically flagged by the FBI as 'Commie front organization'. This was after Welch had been gay-baiting Roy Cohn while demanding Cohn warn him about all those 'communists in the State Department'. Still, six of one and a half-dozen of the other; amounts to the same thing.

Cohn in particular was such a weird guy. He was hilariously gay, but he was also loyal and at least reasonably competent (or McCarthy would've kicked him to the skids). He developed a crush on another McCarthy staffer, David Irvine. When the heat started getting turned up on McCarthy, someone noticed Irvine had received a draft deferment and got that axed. So Irvine got shipped off to Korea. Whereupon Cohn starts trying to make sure Irvine's tour of duty is as comfy as possible (Ann Counter referred to it as 'the lamest case of influence peddling in Western history'). Goofy shit like making sure Irvine rode in a heated truck cab, or he got a fur-lined coat. McCarthy must've seen something in Cohn that made him worth keeping, but good grief.

That's fair, I probably got some wires crossed on that point. Either way, it was massive hypocrisy on Welch's part. He had, at last, no decency.

I remember growing up with the Emergency Broadcast System. It seemed to test every day, right in the middle of whatever I was engrossed in; I swear I have the announcement memorized. One minute, it's The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show, then:

"The following is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test.

"BEEP BOOOOOOP BEEEP, WONK WONK WONK. BEEEEEEEEP. *drum solo* BRDLDLDL BEEEEEP.

"This has been a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area for news and official information. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System on KUCK."

For three fricking minutes. Kids these days don't know how good they have it.

ETA: It was announced well in advance. These people have only themselves to blame for not knowing about it.

Yes cause I'm sure there's no context to this claimView attachment 557615
I had at least half of my "Why don't you hate Trump yet" friends send that article to me yesterday to try and beat me over the head with it. None of them took the time to actually read what it said, though: The administration is no longer going to hand out visas to same-sex partners, they have to be married first. You can't give your gay boyfriend a visa anymore, you need to tie the knot just like everyone fucking else.

I don't know why we were passing out visas to diplomatic butt-buddies and carpet-munchers in the first place, but apparently that rule's getting tossed out the window to bring it in line with what everybody else has to be. Apparently actual equality is a terrible thing, according to these people.

And this is why you read past the headlines of every "news" article.

waiting for leftist articles about the Alert text

"how un wanted text from a President can be considered sexual harassment, rape, racists and bigoted"
"women are in fear after receiving harassment text from Trump"
"how one text can lead to life time trauma for women, trans, undocumented people and people of color"
"Russian Bots are now sending text, via by Trump"

I've literally seen exactly that on my social media feed, and it hasn't even been two hours.

This is the shit people are getting mad at right now? Good lord. I had the alert happen a bit ago while I was out getting some groceries and all I did was look at it and turn it off 'cause the sound was a bit annoying. Who the fuck looks at it and focuses on it being called a "Presidential" Alert? What a bunch of sad speds.
