The claim to have native ancestors is one I'll give Jake a pass on as it was based on family oral history - we know this because one of his aunts talked about it at length. I don't think he's ever mentioned where the romani connection is supposed to have originated, though.

During the Georgia visit they went to a con where Jake was going to try to sell The Massive vs. the masses, and, according to Jake his dad "went and started insulting everyone in my actual family, tried joking about various times he put my life in serious danger as a kid, and generally made a huge awkward embarrassing scene while I'm trying to run game demos at a con by drunkenly crying, loudly asking "Would you @#$% her?" about girls sitting literally about a meter away, staring at him in disgust, and picking fights with people, before wandering off to sleep with a stranger and leaving me stranded in a hotel basement until 6 AM. Jake's dad sounds like the most interesting man in the world. I'd be a bit put off by the 'racist new worldview' except about 50% of the US population likely falls into that grouping according to Jake (conservatively). He's now up there with Mami (ReeeeEbecca's mom) for people I'd love to sit and have a beer\margarita with and chat about their disappointing offspring.

I think the part where the dad was loudly fantasizing about the dank dungeon pussy over at the D&D table was actually dad trying to get Jake to go talk to her/them and introduce himself to a woman, any woman, that shares his hobby. edit: at a convention for people that share the same hobby, that he brought his dad to.

I had the impression he claimed Romani heritage, but it seems he was just white-knighting over the use of the term “gypsy” when someone used it metaphorically.

He was just trying to find out whether his son had any chance of having children. Also no matter what he did, just being Jake is a fucking embarrassing scene. Nothing his dad could have done would have made being Jake any more embarrassing. Any crying he did would have been after realizing his son was a completely fucking worthless loser and maybe he should have done more to try to stop that.

We don't know Jake's actual relationship with his father, but we do know that Jake is a serial liar and will say literally anything for attention.

I think that a lot of Jake's issues stem from the lack of a prominent male figure in his upbringing, you look at his family, and it feels like the vast majority of the authority figures in his life are female, he's never had a male role model in his life, so it kind of makes sense that he would take after his mentally-ill grandmother.

I think this can explain whatever his father originally said before Jake mangled it with his googleshnging.
