I've dated and lived with more than my fair share of unstable people. There's not much you can do besides not getting emotional and not getting baited. You almost have to ignore them until they pass through it barring physical harm.

In my experience, when people freak out like this, you gotta not engage, otherwise it feeds them freaking out, unfortunately. It sucks but you have to let them get it out and learn that they can't egg you on (common go-to for cluster B people). Really sad stuff to listen to. I hope that he gets help and she cleans her room.
