Having thought about this, I think there's an aspect of exhibitionism. It's not just the cartoons of meerkats laying cable that's the turn-on, it's sharing the fact that that's what he's into with other people who aren't expecting it. In his posts, there seems to be an element of "Aren't I a naughty little boy?" Revealing his dirty little secret on a fetish site would just be preaching to the choir.

It could be that Deviantart is just really well-known and mainstream, which is why he knows about it. The others that were mentioned, not so much, although they are just a general Google search away.
