Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

The ST feels so incredibly sterile and empty. Like, there is no feeling of stuff actually going on behind the scenes of the setting beyond what is shown in the movies. I don't even know how to really put it. Like, nothing substantial happened in between ROTJ and TFA aside from a few footnotes. We know there was some stuff going on with Luke and his new Jedi Academy that ended up leading to Kylo Ren and his vanishing. There's something going on with Han Solo. Apparently someone Mon Mothma of all people got rid of the entire military for some :autism: reason :autism:

. . . but it feels like that's about it.

The ST of Star Wars is the latter (or even worse), where it doesn't feel like the setting really extends outside the current frame of the camera. I guess the problem is that everything that is going on is too "contained" and it always ties back to the main plot in a way that makes it feel isolated from the rest of the setting - we simply do not see anything that breathes life into it at all. There's large hulking husks of spaceship on Tatooine 2.0 sandy boogaloo Jakku, which implies thet some big space battle happened there, but it feels less like a location with a history and more like a backdrop for the characters to walk in front of.

Is this just my impression or does it feel like this for other people too?

Let's hope Disney will pay the price for their lack of vision.

Exactly, the whole thing feels like Lucasfilms overcorrecting the flaws of the PT to the polar opposite extremes for the ST. Some of those flaws weren't even inherently bad, they just had flawed execution (this was something that I thought the 3D Clone Wars show had demonstrated, since a lot of those issues had better execution). Instead of polishing up those elements for the ST, they chose to throw all that in the trash in a desperate attempt to prove that the ST won't be as "bad" as the PT, which in itself has created a bunch of issues with the ST (such as something of an identity crisis, since the ST apes the OT to a ludicrous degree).

And why TFA with its shameless near plagiarism of ANH led to TLJ being called something 'different' even though it's basically just ESB written by an edgy teenager who thinks he's a lot more clever than he actually is.

I understand your point and a lot of stories prefer to have the villain be overpowered and the hero be underpowered so as to create a story of growth for the hero, but doing the exact opposite has had great results in many other stories. I mean in comics, Superman's (one of the strongest heroes in the universe) archenemy is a middle aged bald man whose "superpower" is throwing around wads of money and he's proven to be a formidable foe and one of the most popular villains of all time, proving that doing stories the other way around can work. Several Star Wars stories before Disney did the same and it proved it could work there too. Planning, manipulation and corruption can be excellent tools for a seemingly underpowered villain.

I always found Lex Luthor much more interesting than Superman. I mean can you really blame him for trying to defeat an godlike alien that shows up from nowhere? I mean shit, if Superman ever goes rogue, the world is fucked.

Also Lex bangs Mercy, Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Tala, etc. and doesn't give a fuck about Superman's bitch ass other than destroying that boyscout bitch.

You know what....Lex is the real hero of the DCAU if you think about it. He employs millions of people and helps out others. Superman is just a dork in gay ass spandex who ruined a planned neighborhood for low-income people Lex built with his money.

Fuck Superman, Lex is the real hero.

This. Luke being all emo is annoying. Even when he was a whiny teen in ANH, you expect that from him and he grows from it. By the time ROTJ happens, he has tempered himself and grown as a person. Going from a naive kid with big dreams to a mature young man who understands what's at risk and what he needs to do.

Knights of the Old Republic II is a great example of how to pull off a post ROTJ scenario

The original Knights of the Old Republic title did arguable go through a lot of the same storypoints as the original trilogy, and ended with what should have been the final defeat of the Sith Empire. So it was quite exciting to have Kotor II feature a Galactic Republic which won the war, but was losing the peace thanks to the devastating effects of the war. Not to mention the villains who began operating in the shadows, and the political strife in the galaxy which was brought on by the aftermath of the conflict

I just tend to avoid his twitter feed these days. Its too depressing. I feel like in these photos there's a little story we're not being told. It's the one where Bill Murray was told he either does this shit, or they #MeToo his old ass. I'm starting to think this movement is being used to force old guys to make shitty remakes of their movies or other shit.

So how many have ever played through Old Republic? Gameplay wise I find it becomes a bit tedious at length, but I think it has some interesting ideas, although it squanders a lot of them as well. I find the whole Knights of the Eternal Empire shit they pulled back in 2015 was their way of redoing what they attempted initially, and I think the story was definitely a better one than the original, although that could stem from it not being partitioned into 8 pieces.
I liked the dark side ending though, most RPGs tend to have rather bland and samey endings even if they pull the moral system bullshit, but ending up as emperor of the galaxy was neat.

I know it's set not that long after RotS but really?

Not sure if this was posted, but according to RJ lightspeed ramming isn't common because it's illegal and something she thought up in the heat of the moment. So TLJ's idea of a strong leader is one who keeps her soldiers in the dark about her plan, antagonizes a commanding officer, her whole plan requires the enemy not doing a scan, would leave the survivors stranded on a planet calling out for help, and now we have her big moment being a war crime on top of all that. They just keep digging themselves deeper to justify what went on in the movie.
