Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It was the GoFundMe that pissed her off, because Mark Waid wanted to role play cliche evil business man and make them suffer in a legal war of attrition.

This is exactly what he did with Richard Meyer, too. He was motivated by greed to rip off his former business partner, but in the Meyer case, he was motivated purely by malice and evil.

Anyone donating to this piece of shit is donating to a book burner.

Looks like a shitpost twitter but who knows, too lazy to look through it.
Honestly at this point Poe’s Law is in full effect, I probably wouldn’t be able to tell a parody from the real thing.
but in the Meyer case, he was motivated purely by malice and evil.
I’d say Pride and Wrath. Waid likes to stick to the 7 deadly sins after all.

Wrath - Numerous chimp outs.

Greed - Stealing a comic shop from an interracial couple.

Sloth - Not acting while knowing a predator was in the industry.

Pride - Using his influence to bully asian business owners.

Envy - Using his influence to shut down the JawBreakers AP deal.

Lust - Gave that Grayson chick work at DC.

Gluttony -

Another account about Mark Waid has been written. Take with a grain of salt as no receipts given, she claims to have evidence and i hope she drops it.
Mark Waid
My name is Amanda. I am a 30 year old comic book fan from Scotland.
6 years ago, I ran afoul of Dan Slott and Stephen Wacker when I was critical of Slott’s take on Black Cat in Spider-Man on a message board. They began stalking me on the forum and telling me to “fuck off” or insisting that I was a 40 year old virgin guy who lives in his Mom’s basement. When I proved that claim to be false 8 individual times, their aggression quickly extended to - and wound up mostly targeting - my husband who also posted on the forum. Really, though, they were chump change, they were sad little trolls who never were able to deal with any criticism and as soon as they found out I was actually a woman, they were completely lost with how to deal with it, so they instead slandered my husband across multiple different websites and got him banned from forums. CBR, Crawlspace, Comicvine, articles and write-ups on websites I’d contributed to, comments sections… they insisted we were racists and sexists and the stuff that’s seen as the usual guff now.

They apparently got bored of it after a few months but along the way had introduced Mark Waid to us. Mark Waid spent the next 2 years taking, what had before just been an online campaign, to further levels. He had no investment or actual interaction with either me or my husband - he saw it and got involved just because he obviously liked the idea of attacking people with accusations that make him look like a moral hero. He and some followers got my husband fired from a job and me kicked out of University, only a few months before graduation, with enormous claims that we are “bigots”. He and others harassed our Facebook friends insisting they explain why the are friends with us and spreading completely unfounded claims of me and my husband being white nationalists. He would cite a false made-up example, when asked for evidence on that, he wouldn’t provide any and instead pull out an even “bigger” made-up story to draw attention away from the first.

We eventually had to nuke all our personal accounts. Both our lives were effectively ruined. My husband was unemployable and feeling like a burden attempted to kill himself three times. I had now wasted years studying, amassing student debts with no actual result, and had to work 3 different jobs at one point just to keep us going. I began routinely self-harming almost daily for 2 years. I wished to pursue action against Mark Waid but due to being in a completely different country, we flat-out couldn’t afford it and I was terrified of being swallowed up by a big corporate lawyer. Couldn’t even get a restraining order. And, did Waid give up when we were destroyed? No. Someone, I wonder who, contacted my employers and attempted to get me fired in January 2017 and again only 5 months ago (hmm, who deleted all their social media accounts and had to take a haitus from aggressively pursuing a vendetta with a YouTuber 5 months ago…).

Me and my husband had each other, that was the only thing that kept us going. We’re doing alright now, we’re both working and aren’t going to kill ourselves. I’m thankful for Diversity and Comics for an unusual reason - he actually made us feel a lot safer. We didn’t feel like we were the big target anymore. I’ve offered him evidence of this for his case but from the sounds of it, he really doesn’t need it. Loads of people have come forward with similar stories. Mark Waid ruins lives. It’s not just me or my husband. You can find all manner of examples of Waid harassing fans, bullying publishers, antagonising colleagues, lying through his teeth or having serious anger problems. This isn’t about what you think of Diversity and Comics or Antarctic Press or whatever, this is about Mark Waid who is not the victim or the hero of a story, he is an angry bully and sociopath.
But, if you have donated anything to “best-selling” Mark Waid’s “pay my legal bills” gofundme, please unfollow me. I don’t think less of you but I really don’t feel comfortable around anyone who supports Mark Waid. He is scum and, honestly, Diversity and Comics is the lesser of two evils. Waid does not deserve any support or any sympathy.

Also, gofundme don’t actually allow campaigns to pay off legal bills…

I’m loving how many people are coming out now. As much as I love this, I gotta keep myself straight as some of these might be fakes. Is any of this verifiable? The Alt-Ego one was immediately verifiable.
Yeah i agree. I'm not a great internet sleuth and wished she had dropped usernames or something to make it easier, but what we have is; Amanda 30yo from Scotland with a husband, wrote comic articles 6years ago and was banned from most of the discussion boards. Claims of nuking all social media accounts doesn't help.

Richard Meyer is half of an interracial couple, too.

Maybe Mark Waid is actually a white supremacist who irrationally hates interracial couples and mixed families, since he is against race mixing.
He idolizes Superman. You don't remember Superman's "If it ain't white, it's a blight. Be a spastic, put them in a casket" slogan? It was from the 70s Christmas special where he incinerated a black orphanage and groped a lesbian Chinese couple.

That or my cold medicine is too strong.

Keeping with the points I made about both YA novels and romance novels, has there been any alarmism about ASMR yet?
ASMR is current quirky 'flavour of the month' much like OCD and ADHD were before that, while it's popular no outrage will occur. Be prepared for lots of bitching once it falls out of favour, after all the audience is 90% dudes jacking off to it. *EDIT: you'd probably get answers here: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/tickle-heads-the-asmr-community.8386/

So there's apparently a recording of a 911 call of Waid being exceptional...

They talk about this at 14:14 . Rekieta mentions an anecdote about Mark Zaid at 29:07. Here's a tweet about it.

Edit: Bounding Into Comics has more details

For anybody only checking this thread; information is currently being divided into at least two other threads and you might want to check them out too.

He really took that 'Slap a Jap' Superman cover to heart

Then why did you dislike my post about it?
Quick word of advice from someone who only spent a year here. The only ratings that matter is the :powerlevel:, :horrifying: and :islamic: ones, and they only matters as a sort of yardstick for how, ahem.. "interesting" you are as a person to this site's users (less is always better), the numbers behind them or whatever have no impact at all apart from trolling value..

Sublime time for this to happen, I must say.

This will get very interesting, if she speaks out some more, either by audio or on video and along with evidence
But the most interesting part, this person is a woman and black.
And since she is a woman and black, you have to "Listen and Believe
Hey, the SJW created these rules, so, now they have to abide by them

So, I'm really wondering how the Far Left Pros and SJW supporters will treat Mark Waid if this is all true

And this is why identity politics are stupid and believing women without evidence can be dangerous

They will treat him in a manner similar to Weinstein when the story initially broke. Not my Weinstein, he couldn't have done that, those are lies etc. Only when enough of these stories break, and he (hopefully) loses the lawsuit, then they will turn on him.

Comics writer Mark Waid
|Lori Matsumoto
Comics writer and editor Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, Daredevil, 52) has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover legal costs as he responds to a lawsuit from Richard C. Meyer.
Meyer, who runs the Twitter and Youtube accounts “Diversity & Comics,” is considered one of the pre-eminent voices of the Comicsgate movement, which claims that the inclusion of “politics” in modern comics stories — and increased diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity among the people who make comics and the characters who appear in them — have decreased sales, threatening the existence of the American comics industry. Through the years, Meyer has gained a notorious reputation for making numerous racist and transphobic statements in regards to comics creators on his YouTube channel towards industry figures like Ta-Nehisi Coates (Black Panther, Captain America) and Magdalene Visaggio (Eternity Girl).
Meyer claims that Waid threatened the small comics publisher Antarctic Press until it was “frightened for its very survival,” causing the company to drop Meyer’s Jawbreakers series in May of 2018, before its first issue could be printed. Meyer subsequently formed his own comic publishing company to publish the book, but is pursuing recompense for setbacks in his career that he claims are the direct result of Waid’s actions in May.
Antarctic Press and Jawbreakers
In 2015, the nascent days of Comicsgate, Meyer crowdfunded Jawbreakers — a comic series about a group of heroic mercenary/superheroes that he planned to both write and draw — narrowly surpassing its $3,500 goal with $3,743 in pledges.
In 2018, a year after Comicsgate became an infamous household name in the broad comics community, Meyer raised more than $400,000 on Indiegogo to make another Jawbreakers book, this time drawn by Jon Malin, with covers by Ethan Van Sciver, both vocal proponents of Comicsgate values. Antarctic Press, a small comics publisher with a history of carrying satirical political comics from multiple ideological sides, agreed to publish and distribute the new Jawbreakers to comic shops, splitting profits with Meyer.
News of Antarctic’s agreement with Meyer sparked significant pushback on social media from prominent comics creators, including Gail Simone (Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey) and Waid. The staff of some retail comic shops announced they would not carry it, or would only pre-order it if their customers ordered it directly (a common practice in retail comics), which may have carried repercussions.
“Several retailers announced they wouldn’t stock the comic,” The Daily Dot reported at the time, “making a statement against what they believe to be a toxic influence in the industry. Meyer responded by tweeting the names and addresses of stores that decided not to stock Jawbreakers [...] retailers then received negative reviews and online comments.”
Waid took things a step further in a now-deleted Facebook post, in which he described calling Antarctic Comics to find out if they were aware of Meyer’s online behavior. He apparently didn’t reach anyone at that time, and left a message.
“Until I hear back,” Waid’s post read, “I’m (hesitantly) willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they don’t really understand who or what they’re getting into business with, which — though it would seem a stretch — is a possibility. If I do hear back, I’ll report in. Curious as to how they feel about publishing creators whose marketing strategy is to allegedly (*koff*) encourage their fans to threaten the employees of stores, and/or harass and one-star-review-bob [sic] stores, that don’t order their product.”
Shortly afterward, Antarctic Press announced it would no longer publish Jawbreakers. Immediately, Meyer accused Waid of threatening Antarctic Press, claiming that the company’s owner “called me that night, in tears, begging forgiveness” for canceling the book, and adding an unsubstantiated rumor that Waid had threatened physical violence against Antarctic Press staff and involved his employer, Marvel Comics.
In a now-deleted tweet, Antarctic Press categorically denied that its employees felt intimidated by Waid, saying “FACTS: Mark Waid put a call in to our office. Staff took a message and told Mr. Waid our publisher would be informed. Nobody at AP contacted [Marvel editor in chief C.B. Cebulski] or @Marvel nor felt threatened in any way by Mr. Waid’s call. We have not been bullied into a decision by any comics pro.”
Meyer’s claims
On Sept. 19, about four months after the public battle, Meyer filed a civil suit against Waid. In addition to accusing Waid of intimidating Antarctic Press into dropping Jawbreakers, Meyer’s suit claims that Waid defamed him by characterizing him as a “racist, serial harasser of minorities, and as affiliated with white supremacists,” which has damaged his career.
Meyer’s suit claims that Waid’s actions have directly led to him being “blackballed by the comic book industry,” preventing him from tabling at conventions, appearing on panels and from being able to “find a U.S.-based artist for his next book.” Meyer’s suit says he has contracted an artist from the Philippines for the work. He demands a jury trial and damages in excess of $75,000.
Waid’s GoFundMe is set at a goal of $75,000, and has received $34,215 in pledges at the time of this writing, including donations from comics luminaries like Neil Gaiman, Dean Haspiel and Jim Zub.
“Mr. Meyer alleges that I deliberately and singlehandedly blocked the publication of one of his comic books,” Waid writes in a statement on his website. “I did no such thing, and I believe this lawsuit is his effort to try and intimidate and silence those of us who stand up publicly against bigotry and racism and who continue to defend diverse creators from harassment [...] Even though I am confident that Mr. Meyer’s claims are entirely meritless, lawsuits are expensive and time-consuming. If I were wealthy, a lawsuit wouldn’t be much of an issue, but I work, y’know, IN COMICS. My expenses are already substantial and could easily run into six figures.”
Waid is being represented by Mark S. Zaid, a cofounder of the non-profit law firm Whistleblower Aid who has numerous ties to the American comics industry.
In his statement, Waid frames his defense against Meyer’s lawsuit as an act of standing up for others, not just himself; he acknowledges Comicsgate-related attacks on women, queer and trans folks and people of color who work in the comics industry.
“It isn’t just about me;” his statement concludes, “if we don’t fight online harassment, it only becomes nastier and more powerful.”
