Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Edit: Does anyone consider themselves a CG supporter? I think it’s more autistic than gamergate and I haven’t read a comic in 20 years.
I dunno, what does it mean to be a "CG supporter"? I agree that the comics and creators they're complaning about are execrable, but apart from Comics Zack I find all the CG people to be insufferable spergs.
I backed "Jawbreakers", but I actually agree somewhat with the anti-CG people when it comes to the movement at large - outside the top two or three genuinely talented creators there seem to be a lot of lazy "slap a MAGA hat on it" style cash-ins.

Edit: Does anyone consider themselves a CG supporter? I think it’s more autistic than gamergate and I haven’t read a comic in 20 years. I’m just enjoying the drama and stupidity on display. It’s also always nice to see people getting their comeuppance for trying to force their will on people who don’t want it.
I can't say for sure as I don't read many comics. I'm just tired Mike Waid and people like him infesting an industry up by inserting fake diversity and other shit then proceeding to call all the critics nazis then sic their fans on them. I don't care which industry it is, whether it be comics, animation, coding, or anything else I'm just tired of this bullshit. I just want to see someone fight off these SJWs and win in a major way.

Depends. I'm a comicsperg who agrees with a bunch of CG's talking points but I don't particularly care for any of their projects or want some dumb flag to wave around. The drama is amusing as it's all "The emperor has no clothes" but my support is more due to all the people causing problems deciding this is going to be the hill to die on. Just give me fun DC/Marvel stories playing around with the long history of these universes and I'm happy.

But to answer the question if I consider MYSELF to be a CG supporter, I don't use the label. However any attempts at criticizing anyone in this interest of mine is labeled "Comicsgate" so does it really matter?

I consider myself one, in the sense that whenever these culture war battlefronts open up, I'm always rooting for the free speech/free market side. Having people like Waid and Rodriguez on the other side have really validated my choice this time around. But I haven't put any money where my mouth is by backing any of these books yet, so I guess I'm a pretty crappy supporter in that regard. (Cash Grab might finally be the book that makes me buy in.)

By the way, your avatar image is disturbing as hell.

On another note, Peter Simeti of Alterna Comics did a stream tonight. I think he tries to do one every Tuesday night so he can pitch the Alterna books that go up for sale the next day, but he has been so swamped with orders between the backlash from his bullying and the "Alterna-Ween" promotion he did earlier this month that he didn't do one last week. Simeti consciously avoids identifying as a ComicsGater, but it's clear he and other pro-CG creators have some of the same antagonists, and since Zack mentioned him in his "Why I'm suing Waid" video yesterday, I wanted to see if he would mention that. Well, he didn't, but I would still recommend putting his vid on in the background when you have some time to kill, especially if you've never seen one of his streams - because this dude works. He sells you his company's books like a true salesman, telling you what's in each one, comparing them to other books you might like, singing the praises of the creators, and then hitting you with the cheap price tag at the end. Don't care how stone-hearted you are, watching this vid will make you want to zoom to your LCS tomorrow for sure. This mofo could sell flamethrowers to hell demons.

Now imagine if certain creators or editors from the Big Two sold their stuff with half this amount of passion instead of sperging on Twitter all day and alienating customers. I think the industry would be quite a different place.

Yeah, no, my comics-buying days ended years ago, and I'm not gonna throw money at paperbacks I have zero interest in. I'm only an interested spectator for this trainwreck. My only reason for leaning towards the autistic-but-harmless CG side is the fact that the big names on the other side are actively despicable in their behavior, aside from that I have zero stake in the issue.

I just hate people like Mark Waid. I'm not going to suddenly stop reading books by comic book artists I like just because they think Zach is a nazi.

I probably haven't bought anything from the big two since before 2000, except maybe a couple trade paperback compilations, and maybe a half dozen of those. I did not often buy their crap ever, really, and even when I did buy comics it would be generally independent stuff like Cerebus before Dave Sim went completely insane or Dark Horse or Fantagraphics stuff.

That said, much like Gamergate, it's something where I'd like to laugh equally at both sides because they're both ridiculous spergs but one side is absolutely reprehensible in their behavior and that's the scumbags and bullies like Mark Waid. I'm at a total loss as to how anyone could look at the conduct of this absolute piece of shit and think it was worthy of admiration much less huge donations of money.

Not really. But when people divide themselves into 'us' and 'them', and you're a 'them', it's very hard to not identify with your fellow 'thems' and feel against the 'us'.
I definitely don't identify with a number of the 'thems', but being clearly othered by one group, by default, sides me with their opponents. That I'm morally more aligned with anti-SJW, anti-crybullying and anti-'It's alright when we do it' hypocrisy just reinforces that.

That's pretty much where I am. Both sides have a huge amount of :autism: that I just can't take, but the anti side has people who are truly disgusting.

Same. Though their Twitter spergouts make it easier to slowly back away if it's clearly affecting the quality of their work. For the past few years, I've generally drifted off from the current product towards manga, european comics and pre 2010s back issues.

I've backed a couple of CG books but I already do that with any crowdfunded comic/artbook I find interesting enough (not the political ones though because those never usually age well).

This is probably the closest to me, along with the fact that most of CG has no problems with ribbing on each other.

I've also gravitated to anime and manga for the most part, rather than cartoons or comics. Personally, i think both Western and Eastern quality of work has dropped for many titles especially when it come to taking shortcuts, such as no backgrounds or over abundance or reliance on CG.

:offtopic:While CalArts is a big problem in cartoons these days, it can work well. I enjoyed Gravity falls, the regular show and what I've seen of Gumball:offtopic:

I read some comics and I have a longstanding interest in them but I don't like DC/Marvel superheroes in the slightest, whether it be in comics, tv or film as it's not what I grew up reading. Even though I don't have a dog in the fight it's fairly easy to pick a side when it's a choice between mostly reasonable voices and hysterical woke shitheads.

Edit: Does anyone consider themselves a CG supporter?

I don't. The standard marvell/dc cape stuff was a bit impenetrable for me, too many reboots, Where to atart paralysis, etc. Also the art always appeared to be writing checks that the stories could not cash.

The only comicbook company i used to give a crap about was valiant, but i get the feeling that this is akin to voting third party in the general us election

You still get reeed at and called a nazi.

I tend to dislike the Social Justice crowd, so I was already biased against them from the start. I wouldn’t say I’m CG but I do support the idea of good comics with no far-left politics and maintaining some form of quality control by not hiring from twitter/tumblr.

I’m fine with some politics in comics but when you make Captain America into a Nazi because Drumpf, you fucking lost me. I was already buying from Marvel and DC long before, only thing that’s changed is that I replaced Marvel with indies. I still keep up to date with Marvel thanks to some of the CG YTbers and Comics Explained/Storian but so far I haven’t read a Marvel comic for entertainment purposes in a long time.

If I have to pick a side between autistic hobbyists who can self reflect and autistic assholes who would rather burn down the building than admit any wrong doing, try and guess which I’d pick. I’ve talked with both sides multiple times, mixed result most of the time with CG, same result everytime with anti-CG.

I’m not a trump supporter but, my god, how I enjoy the mountains of salt the guy produces. It’s the almost the same with YaBoi, he does *thing*, a certain section of twitter loses its shit over it. The only difference is one is the president of the United States and the other is some guy pointing a cellphone camera at his crotch either in a car or a closet while spergjng about a-cup breasts. You gave YaBoi power when you couldn’t ignore him, now he’s $500K richer, has an audience of 91K subscribers and people willing to throw money at him just to spite you.

On CG IGGs, I only back what I think will be entertaining. I backed JawBreakers: LS, I didnt back Iron Sights. I like most of the CG creators but I’m not going to back everything, for example: I like Tim Lim, but I’m not going to buy a Trump book that I don’t think looks interesting, Cash Grab on the other hand looks interesting and shows at least this side can poke fun at themselves.

Convincing someone as delusional as Lauren is a fruitless effort. She (and everyone on her side) already thinks everyone here is CG regardless of wether you think CG is autistic or not.

The people on the anti-CG side are so spergy and exceptional that any normal person must, by default, side with CG. I do so willingly because, while I'm not the biggest comics fan, I do have enough history with them to actually not want to see them to turn into North Korean style propaganda tools.

Obviously there's spergs like Nasser in CG, but even he is a producer. Contrast that with Renfamous, who I would bet never actually bought a comic before this year.

Is anyone a Nerkish patron? He posted something about whatever the hell went down, and I was just wondering what it was. I used to be a patron, but I quit a few months back.
