You know, it's
really telling the difference in scope.
Shantae's team aimed low because they know Wayforward excels at accomplishing
fucking win with every little. As we speak, they're closing on their last 3 Kickstarter goals. They released
a Steam/PC version of Risky's Revenge (a $10 game that plays like one worth
way more), and the new downloadable-only title
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a $20 for 3DS that plays like a $50 one. Wayforward and
Shantae's team give a damn about their community and playerbase. They're completely focused on making great games, and have proven multiple times you don't need millions to do it.
Seriously, try
any of the Shantae games. They're fucking
fantastic.
Now on the other side of the isle, we see people that I've otherwise
long respected, like Tim Schaefer and Keiji Inafune, both of which have proven to be
completely inept with budgeting and making their money go the distance, and which both seem to have real issues with who they pick up to be their associates. It really shows that there's a right and a wrong way to do things on the smaller dev side.
But we're getting off-topic here, and to drag it back on topic, here's an attempt to shove things back on course.
We know from the mainstream press and from prior experiences that the Mojo Jojos aren't going away any time soon. They're going to keep prodding, and their followers are going to keep up the offense against games in general. The primary thing to do, in addition to the usual barrages of emailing/snailmailing and boycotting, is to focus heavily on destroying their attack platform. That means debunking them as time goes on, supporting unbiased journalists who actually pick up on things (Pakman for example), and doing your part to expose them for what they are. Punching Gawker and Destructoid is also recommended.
Never forget: The average Anti-GGer is best surmised by
this guy:
They don't care about facts.
They don't care about context, and they sure as shit won't listen to
you.
You can completely, comprehensively destroy their angle of attack so completely and so utterly that there's no one outside of the conversation would take it seriously ever again - and they'll
keep using it. This is one reason that forcing them out into the light kills their credibility so effectively.
During my experiences with DailyKos, for example, and pissing off the so-called SJW hate brigade (because I'll be damned if I let extremists of any stripe fuck with my site of origin), more than once I pointed out really open and glaring examples of how they were comprehensively wrong about something (Anita's harassment most obviously, but there's others). In each case, confronted by evidence, they just repeated the same talking points, even though they had been completely dismantled. Others were even less sane, saying that "facts didn't matter" or, my personal favorite, how the Anti-GG has avowed racists in it (Leigh Alexander, Ian Miles Cheong) and an open Rape Apologist who stood around and did nothing when an acquaintance of his was raped in Arthur Chu. When I brought those up on their site, the response was basically along the lines of "
DOESN'T MATTER, MISOGYNY, CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE JIAMIS."
IA has a lot of videos that called this way before it happened. This one is from June 2013, almost a year and a half ago. Watch this in the context of what's going on today:
I'm gonna coin a joke from Elon James White, beause it's a perfect fit:
Ever notice that Big Red sounds like a Whites-Only Water Fountain?
