Meyer truly is a military man, he chose the battlefield (Texas) that better suited his cases.

So far from my understanding YaBoi could win the defamation case if the judge doesn’t consider him a public figure, right? Or would it still be an uphill battle?

He could win the defamation case either way.

Defamation is generally a hard case to win because it is typically hard to show Damages, it is hard to show malice, it is hard to prove intent, and in general, bullshitting, even about someone has the uphill climb of overcoming protected speech. But Waid pretty much did all of this himself. He laid out the Plaintiffs case in real time on social media, illustrating his actions, his intent, his clear understanding and intent to inflict quantifiable damages on Meyer, and his use of defamatory statements targeted with razor focus on doing so via Meyers business partner. It’s not the normal Shouting Into the Wind or Fuzzy Rules Regarding Journalism, of most Defamation cases.

Yes the Defamation piece is still a bigger hurdle than the Tortious Interference one, as it requires delving more into specific language used and intent, as opposed to the easily shown simple actions. But as far as Defamation cases go, this one looks to be far more solid than most.

You ever see those 'Mr beast' compilations where he turns up to random streamers (mostly girls?) compliments them and donates 30k just to get a reaction? I find it cringe as fuck, but to people with deep, deep pockets 18k can be chump change.

You can't get a refund unless the campaign gives it to you. So "troll donations" would be a BIG mistake. I doubt these are trolls or even comics folks. I imagine it is major conservatives. I mean, Milo offered to publish Zack's book after the AP fiasco. Conservatives who are out of the comic sphere do follow Comicsgate.

I hope they're legit because $10K is the trigger to triggering KYC/AML type due diligence by any bank that has anything to do with the transfer.

Surprising no one. It's not a murder investigation with major media demanding the tape for tonights lead. It will take 10 days at a minimum for anyone to even bother to look for it. They will look for it. They get these sorts of requests all the time, mostly revolving domestic disputes and divorce and custody battles. Just don't expect blinding speed. Rekieta sent in the request. It normally takes 48 hours to get an answer. The answer was it's gonna take a few more days. This is business as usual.

Some of you may be surprised at the amount of harassment and “Mark Waid non-fan fiction” being posted in the GoFundMe comments section. I’m reasonably sure that most GFMs don’t attract trolls.

(Here’s a short list of the things I’ve learned about myself by reading the comments: Apparently, I’m a millionaire. Evidently, I was once in business with an African-American woman. I'm surprised to learn that I made some phone calls to some unnamed university in Scotland and got a woman thrown out three weeks before graduation--AND drove her unnamed husband to three suicide attempts. AND it turns out I had a wife, so screw all of you for not sending me a wedding gift. There’s so much more, I’m tempted to publish it as an anthology stretch goal.)

I’ve deleted exactly one ugly comment, aimed at others. The rest, I’m leaving untouched so you can see for yourself the sort of hate and harassment I’m having to lawyer up against--and *I’m a straight white man.* This is nothing compared to what women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community receive every day from ComicsGate’s representatives. Think about that.

Read their comments. Pay attention to the language. It's important to see for yourselves how these people react and what fiction they’ll throw at you when you take a stand against bigotry and for inclusivity. When you object to Black writers being called "race hustlers" whose writing is a "minstrel show." When you call people out for comparing transgender people to "dog-faced boys" at the carnival "freak show." When you object to women in any industry being accused of being hired "because BEWBS" and unqualified as a gender. I’m fighting a lawsuit that I strongly believe is designed to silence anyone who speaks out against that sort of prejudice. I'm fighting back. Please donate and PLEASE keep sharing. Let's send a clear message that online harassment is unacceptable. Thank you.

I think technically the partner was the boyfriend, not Shannon. It's just Waid talking around the issue.
