LGBT Facebook 11-04-14 Chris votes by quoting Mary Poppins

On my Facebook page I follow quite a few lolcows. Every single one of them are openly spouting off shit about voting today. This really annoys me since they're lolcows which means they're idiots and that means idiots are having a say in how this country is run.

I never thought Chris of all people would vote. It's like he's taking on more and more qualities of an elderly person.

The only person in his life he can currently trust is an elderly person. Also, he's taking influence from the LGBT crowd, who I imagine are emphasising voting for a pro-LGBT candidate.

If this was Chris from 5 years ago, he would have been crying from the top of the mountain that he was voting Republican (If he ever got out of 14 BC and voted, that is.)

Well the thing is you can't complain if you don't vote; but regardless of the result Chris will probably complain anyways, I don't really follow US politics that much, seeing how much Canadian politics are probably just as messed up.

More than 5 years ago, he voted for Obama.
I recall voting for Obama too and had to hear a mouthful from a family of Republicans later. At least I finally have the health insurance I needed.

You're lucky!

Pretty sure Chris just looked at the HRC page to have people tell him to vote for.
This is why mentally handicapped people (those who cannot form their own opinion or are easily swayed by others) shouldn't be allowed to vote.
They end up voting based on what someone else tells them...

I could argue that is a more intelligent way to vote. Someone doesn't have enough time or interest to figure out who to vote for, so they find a friend, organization, or media outlet they trust and tend to agree with politically, and follow their recommendations. That vote is more likely to be closely aligned with what the person wants than if they were half assed about it and just voted based on party or a commercial they liked or something.

And who doesn't vote based on what other people have told them? I am sure you based your vote on information you learned from media, blogs, interviews with candidates, discussions with friends etc. No matter what it was, it boils down to things people told you.

In general, I think that "don't accept things you are told, question everything and do your own research." is an overused and bullshit meme. If you reject all information unless you have broken it down to first principles yourself, you will end up with very little information to work with. If you want to think for yourself, it is much more productive to see what other people have said and start your thinking from there. That is how the human race moves forward. It is what Newton and Noel Gallagher meant when they said "Standing on the shoulders of giants."

The whole idea is that you're supposed to make your own mind up based on the platforms the candidates are running for. Open discussion with friends who might influence you by telling you something you wouldn't have known otherwise is expected, and more than welcome; but voting for someone just because someone else told you to do so is ridiculous.
Will that very thing end up benefitting those who don't know how to use their vote on their own? Maybe, but maybe not.
Sorry, I'm very passionate about politics and voting in particular!
It's actually technically illegal to influence someone's voting by means of threats of violence, and a whole slew of other things. I brought a "cheat sheet" when I voted in the municipal elections that were held here last month, but only because there were more than 50 candidates running for 4 positions, many of whom either had the last name Singh or the first name Muhammed. Even THAT isn't allowed, but like many non-violent crimes, no one cares if you do it.

Chris really isn't informed, what will happen if the LGBTQ supporter also happens to be a firm supporter of getting rid of monthly tugboats ? Or reducing the size of them?

Chris decides to switch over and vote Democrat.

Republican victories are at their highest in several decades. Coincidence?
