The whole idea is that you're supposed to make your own mind up based on the platforms the candidates are running for. Open discussion with friends who might influence you by telling you something you wouldn't have known otherwise is expected, and more than welcome; but voting for someone just because someone else told you to do so is ridiculous.
Will that very thing end up benefitting those who don't know how to use their vote on their own? Maybe, but maybe not.

It's actually technically illegal to influence someone's voting by means of threats of violence, and a whole slew of other things. I brought a "cheat sheet" when I voted in the municipal elections that were held here last month, but only because there were more than 50 candidates running for 4 positions, many of whom either had the last name Singh or the first name Muhammed. Even THAT isn't allowed, but like many non-violent crimes, no one cares if you do it.
