The main issue is that Carl was the one who started to talk about suits. No one would ever let it go, even if he conceded. He was asking for a fight and he didn't even bring his best suit for it
That would mean actually getting involved with the grunt work of politics. Campaigning, door knocking, event organising and so on, as opposed to the lofty meeting and shaking hands with politicians he is used to doing.
His end game is protect his ego at all costs. Ever since the gay ops started I've been trying to figure out how getting rid of Jim, or deplatforming people who make fun of him helped his stated end goal. Which I thought was "saving the west".
