Nobody is going to think that Sargoy is credible because he got a University of Phoenix sheepskin in PDF format. Besides, you have to pay for college in England, so it makes more sense for him to record videos instead.

Getting a degree, even from a non prestigious institution, proves something. If nothing else, that you can schedule, meet deadlines and follow formatting instructions or at least pay someone to do it as you convincingly

If he actually does the research and course work himself, he might actually understand what he's talking about sometimes... assuming he takes a few courses in the topics he covers

He can afford it

How anyone can consider Carl an intellectual is beyond me. He's impossible to take seriously. He has the same intellectual depth as the twats who complete their first year of university and think they're psychiatrists because the got an A in Psych 1000 and 1001. Only his education came from Wikipedia and YouTube videos. He's "Google Academia" at its worst.

Why bother? Modern media has shown that knowledge is irrelevant as long as you can elicit feelings in an audience.
In fact, the less you know the more popular you become.

Also, he's too fucking old to return to college.

There's an old video where Carl says he wants to go back to university, and to study philosophy.

I doubt it would help, and I suspect he'd drop out even quicker than he dropped out of computer science. Reading popular history books and name-dropping Locke isn't evidence of an aptitude in the humanities. It requires a certain amount of skill to be able to take a specific topic, do a critical literature review, and then synthesise and argue a position. I've no reason to believe that Carl is remotely capable of this.

For a comparison, Sargon thought he could learn how to program and then tried to write a game. But his coding is shockingly bad even by retard standards, because he's a retard. The same story will play out if he tried to do a philosophy or history degree.
