Yes, I'm sure that's the problem, Stormy. None of the blame is on you for needlessly catapulting yourself onto the national stage, it's all that damned, dirty Orange Man's fault.

Huh it's like making false allegations to the general public have consequences or something

I'm pretty sure the nukes comment was hyperbole. I don't honestly think the man wants to blow up his own country.

But, the underlying desire expressed by Rep. Swalwell for forceful confiscation of citizens' arms by overwhelming martial force is the disturbingly genuine part.

The "joke" about nukes only shows how badly he's failed to think through the legality, feasibility and desirability of such a planned seizure because, well, it would require a law to be passed that wouldn't immediately be stayed and then countermanded by the USSC, that the law enforcement agencies tasked with such a massive undertaking would have the manpower, let alone personal and political desire, to carry it out BEFORE having to take casualties, the fact there is no master list of who owns guns in this country, the fact the black market would just keep supplying them... and on and on and on.

The end result of the gun grab movement isn't any concrete changes in crime or gun numbers, it is, and always has been, about blatant political virtue signaling, the fact that something you disapprove of has been made illegal is the only goal, not the fallout, intended or otherwise, that comes with it. They want another round of Prohibition, ignorantly and arrogantly believing they can win this time where the previous attempt failed. Why? Because they're on the RIGHT side of history!

They want their legacy of being the one to codify into law what all the right thinking people have known for years... that guns are evil!

Oh I think he does. He may not understand the actual scale of destruction he wants to unleash, but I have zero doubt he absolutely wants to commit large scale violence against American citizens. It's at the heart of every tyrant... that the people are not citizens, not even really subjects, but inventory. You establish how and where they live, what they do, when they die. That's the power people like him desperately crave, and it's at the heart of every philosophy about income redistribution and collective debt to society. He wouldn't want to confiscate guns in the first place if he didn't want that level of power... more than any potential effective resistance to military oppression, the removal of private gun ownership is a sign of control, of making sure your inventory doesn't get any uppity ideas about deciding whether it wants to live or die on its own terms. If a bit of your inventory goes rogue and starts slicing up other bits of inventory, it's up to the owner to decide how to feel about that and what to do... I mean, my god, imagine the chaos that could come if your inventory decided to start defending itself instead of relying on the owner!

So no, it's not about virtue signaling, it's about power. It's about making sure that those you don't want to have any power understand that they have no power, and that you have it all. That's why he went right to the "lol we could nuke you" example... he wanted to drive home that those in power can wipe a city off the map any time they choose. He wanted to feel like a god saying he'd smite Pompei if not given his proper respect and tribute. And that's why these upjumped lawyers with delusions of godhood hate guns so badly... because they know that for a significant portion of the population, those guns represent more than anything the idea of a check on government power. That they're a sign of resistance against the very concept that politicians are all-powerful and can decide who lives and who dies on a whim.

It's the same reason these left-wing philosophies always have a hate-on for religion... it's not out of some idea of rationality or logic or freedom, but a plain and simple desire to eliminate the competition, and to make sure the people don't get any ideas of the government not being the all-powerful one.

That just shows to me he was being insensitively satirical, he certainly knows that congress does not have a say in the deployment of nuclear weapons, let alone troops (they have the power to declare war, yes, but not to make tactical/strategic decisions)

So no, he can't nuke anything he pleases and I'm fairly certain he knows that.

Again, I don't think he's some kind of cackling psychopathic madman, but I do think he's got a severely underdeveloped worldview when it comes to the past, present and future of the 2nd Amendment.

Man, the National Politics Correspondent for Newsweek is really, really underestimating the number of AR-15s in the U.S., or drastically overestimating the number of mass murderers we have.
No biggie. The non-mass murderers are just "scarily paranoid".

Get on the Right Side of History™.

They left an "almost" to weasel out of it if anyone calls BS, no point in belaboring the obvious narrative building.

Do they not realize how much their ill-informed fear porn actually helps the murder machine industry? The more they threaten to take our weapons, the more rounds people buy, the more money goes to manufacturers, the more they can kick up to lobbyists and lawyers to fortify the 2a vanguard.

Honestly I think these people are so clueless that they truly don't understand how they contribute to the gun economy. They're used to echo chambers full of people who unironically say stuff like "why does anyone need a machine gun?" They could actually learn a lot from average Americans on Twitter, but they're far too smug and proud to do that.

On top of that, libs don't understand or care to understand actual firearms and crime stats. We can call all of their bullshit lies an "agenda," and of course it is an agenda in part, but really many of them are just plain stupid paternalistic urbanites who grew up in NY and CA and have never even met anyone who owns an AR. It's interesting how they are so quick to call people xenophobes and bigots when they feel the same way about gun owners and passionate 2A supporters.

It's not as catchy as the time they all flipped their shit over not knowing anybody who owned a pickup truck, but it's close enough for jazz.

Oof, I forgot about that. I'm glad Stanford wasted time and money on such an important study.

And really, that "pickup truck" nonsense dovetails with the gun debate issue: Libs don't give a flying fuck about people from rural Nebraska who have very different lives, priorities, and experiences than coddled professionals who live in San Francisco or Manhattan. Why would anyone but a worthless piece of shit need a truck?! Oh, and those truck people vote Republican on top of being from lame flyover states? Dumb hick nazis, all of them.

Here here

There's a reason gun sales spike AFTER mass shootings, because of fear there will be some kind of ill conceived reactionary laws passed by politicians just looking to be "doing something".

Violent left-leaning street mobs weren't a thing 5 years ago, let alone 10 or 15.

The idea that you'd have to arm yourself against being assaulted by your fellow citizens over who you voted for in the last election was laughable then.....

Then ANTIFA happened.

The left's biggest (but still not great) argument against armed citizenry was the army could handle external threats and cops could handle internal ones, so who out there do you REALLY need "protected" from?

Oh I dunno? People looking to pull me from my car because I have the "wrong" kind of bumper stickers and "punch the Nazi" ? Maybe? And depending on where I live, the mayor himself may have told his cops to not intervene?

The left is it's own best argument AGAINST gun control.
